"MAYDAY MAYDAY S.O.S.!"
It's finally time for us to revisit a classic series and personal all-time favorite of mine, Tokkei Winspector! Previously you've seen us do galleries of the individual team members of Winspector: - Fire (Ryoma) - Bikel - Walter And while it's taken me some months to finally get around to it, it's time to look at a massive accessory pack designed just for the Winspectors. The incredible S.H. Figuarts Winspector Full Package Option Set! ** This is the single largest gallery I have ever shot for this site. At 140 images it's split across 4 different posts. Be sure to check them all out! Packaging The Full Pacakge set comes in a box that's not only massive, but perfectly fits in line with the 3 previous releases. Right down to the gorgeous spine art. Since there are quite a number of pieces included in this set, everything's actually broken down into two large parts trays. The bottom tray solely contains the pieces for Walter & Bikel's maintenance tables. Accessories Unlike most of my reviews, this one will consist entirely of a break down of the accessories represented in this massive pack. This set covers the totality of basically every major accessory or weapon ever used by the team, and addresses any lingering concerns that I ever had about the lack of accessories with the individual releases. 2 - Bays/Maintenance Tables for Walter & Bikel. Seen in the Winspector base, this is where the robotic brothers chill out when not on active duty. We see them activated for the first time in episode 1 while lying on these tables, and various other times through out the series. 2 - sets of bay arms for above mentioned tables. These snap onto either side of the bays themselves rather snugly. I'm disappointed that they don't ratchet though, it's difficult to move each arm into the same even position. They still balance alright, but it's an imperfect design. 1 -Winbadge. The standard folded up version of Fire's proof of membership & command of Winspector. 1 - Firebadge. An unfolded version of the Winbadge. Unlike most cases where I feel like the two accessories could have been one, I'm pretty okay with these two being separate. It allows for some multiple display options, and frankly on something this tiny I'd fear the hinge to open it being rather weak. The interior detailing isn't entirely present, as you can see compared to my Vintage DX Win/Firebadge, but it gets the job done at 1/12 scale. 1 - Set of Handcuffs. Kind of plain detail wise and in flat gray plastic, they're sturdy enough to get the job done at least. I don't understand why there wasn't more than one set of either size included. Oddly enough, the first time the cuffs were ever used in show wasn't actually to arrest anyone, but to stop an elevator from plunging into a building fire. You will need to remove a figures' hands first to put these on as they aren't hinged to open. A minor drawback. 1 - Set of Large Handcuffs. Slightly larger than the first set, these function the same but again I question why only one set was included. They are large enough that for many figures they should slide right over closed fists without having to remove them, but again an imperfect design. 2 - sets of additional Fire hands. They work for any of the three members of the team but are largely intended for Fire's use. Both sets are specifically meant for holding Fire's Win/Fire Badges. * To Equip any of the included back packs, you'll need to unplug a few components from each figures' back. Fire has plug on his back to remove, no additional parts necessary. Bikel has a new plug in this set that replaces the standard one on his back. Walter has one that replace the back of his Di-Slider, which is already attached to a hard point that was under another panel that had to removed from him in the first place! Walter's Di-Slider as seen previously. I've included images of what parts you need to detach as well. 1 - gold back plug. This component swaps out for Bikel's regular back plate and gives him a peg hole for the Multi Pack to attach to, making it a much sturdier connection. 1 - Dislider panel. A silver swap out piece to make Walter's jet pack compatible with the Multi Packs. Just pop it on and you're good to go. 3.5 - sets of Multi Pack Harness parts. The front end of the harness is repeated identically twice, and the third one is a bitter longer to accommodate Bikel's tire in the configuration. This goes around the neck & chest of each figure. The arms which run from it to the connectors on the pack come in 3 varieties as well. The short ones are intended for Ryoma & Bikel, the extra length arms for Walter to use the Air Pack. 2 - Multi Pack Fire Version. First seen in episode 1, this multi pack type is (as the name implies) intended to put out fires. Both Bikel & Walter use this pack in it's initial outing, so you can actually display both that way if preferred. Though often Ryoma uses one of the 2 fire packs in combination with some additional parts. Each of these packs has the fire extinguisher attachments on them standard, other components can slide over them for other modes. 1- Multi Pack Air Version. Primarily a life sustaining pack, as the name implies, this one provides a fresh supply of oxygen for civilians as first seen in episode 3. Though the air masks aren't removable on the figuart version of the pack. And although the Air pack is first used by Fire, it's more or less intended for Walter. Fire doesn't use it terribly often and is generally matched up with a variation of the Fire pack. 2- Liquid Nitrogren Blasters. These adapters fit over the Fire Version Multi Pack nozzles to instantly freeze targets. First used in episode 4 to stop an imminent explosion. When attached they have other uses as well, see episode 23 for their Caulkling Version use. But this was their first and primary ability. They really just look like awesome over the shoulder cannons for Fire. They also don't plug on very well, the part tolerances are kind of iffy. 1 - Clapper. Another of the various hand held weapons Fire has used. This one debuts in episode 15. It's shown to be used like a grappling hook, though no such attachment to accurately recreate this is included in this set. I however had some rope to spare. The clapper also had an extinguisher mode that could shoot anti-fire bullets, sadly those aren't included either. 1 - Spin Claw Drill Mode. Used in episode 16 during the rescue of Walter, the Spin Claw Drill can pretty much punch a hole in anything. It's yet another of Fire's various arm mounted weapons. An alternate attachment for it is also included. 1 - Spin Claw Manipulator Mode attachment. Just an open version of the drill. It isn't actually hinged to open or close, though you would think that would make sense given that was it's use in show. 1 - Gigastreamer Plasma Bullet. Fire's ultimate personal weapon, the Gigastreamer is an unrivaled power up. The standard mode of the weapon is actually the claw arm form, but this accessory is packaged in the bullet formation. The gattling gun barrel can be easily removed and replaced with the claw. This powerful weapon had been in development for some time, but was emergency rolled out in order to defeat Brian, a member of Winspector who had been on loan to the FBI in America. His own power had been upgraded several times over so only this weapon could defeat him. It can also be combined with Fire's Max Calibur. To do so you need to remove the small yellow canister parts on top and replace them with the included canister panel accessory. In show, the Gigastreamer would split apart in the center so there was room was for the Max Calibur. This accessory just facilitates the transformation without the movable parts. When the two weapons are combined it's known as the Gigastreamer Maxim Mode. 1 - Gigastreamer cannister panel. 1 - Gigastreamer Drill Mode attachment. Just pop off the gattling gun section and replace it with this one for the drill mode. The claws actually open and close as well to use it as a capture device. This is actually the default form of the Gigastreamer. Perhaps the ONLY things that could have been included but weren't are some special episode specific items. Very very far reaching things that only I would want One minor thing I'd like to see would be the Walter Charm. It's just a small keychain a schoolgirl had in episode 16, but it would be cool to have since it signified her love of Walter. Some dismembered Walter & Bikel limbs would have been cool to have too seeing as the old rust buckets did get torn apart on occasion. An alternate head with Bikel's tears would have been incredibly easy to produce and I would have loved to have seen it too since it represents one of the most humanizing moments for him in the entire show. While the matter of Winchaser & Winsquad needing to exist are entirely separate issues, if they did, I'd like to see an SP Card accessory for Fire and a new set of proper length handle bars for Bikel to use. These are totally not happening, but if the vehicles did these accessories would be necessary too. Final Thoughts At this point the Tokkei Winspector line-up of S.H. Figuarts is primarily complete. The entire main team has been released as well as a full accessory pack to compliment them. I can be satisfied with this, I really can, but there are still a few pipe dreams out there for me. For starters there's Ryoma/Fire's car the Winsquad which could itself transform into the Firesquad. Now I have the vintage DX release of this vehicle, but I'd love to see a nice premium treatment done for this vehicle ala the Tridoron from Drive. Then there's Bikel's motorcycle the Winchaser. By today's standards it would be a fairly simplistic bike with a few additional weapons & accessories. The vintage piece in this case scales pretty well, but again I want that completeness of an all SHF line-up. Then there's the fact that Fire received an upgrade with a new costume in the sequel series Tokkyu Shirei Solbrain where he became Knight Fire. And perhaps least likely of all is Bikel & Walter's brother, Brian! Though he operated for over a year in America under the supervision of the FBI, we see him only once for his annual maintenance back in Japan. But wouldn't it be wonderful to really complete this line up with the lost 4th member of Winspector? So if Bandai wanted to, they could easily continue this line in some fashion for the conceivable future. I certainly hope they revisit it, and Metal Heroes in general beyond Gavan, at some point. Currently we're in a massive resurgence of these characters thanks to Space Squad & it's success. Let the metal golden age continue! For now though, I can safely say that justice has been done for my favorite Metal Heroes series.

These galleries have been a treat. I still haven't seen any of Winspector, but these have gotten me pretty curious. The suits and accessories just look incredibly nifty, and it's clear you had a fun time with this shoot. It looks great!

These figures are absolutely the best Metal Hero figuarts we've gotten so far as well. Very pleased with them. And this accessory set was the icing on the cake. It just completes them. If we could just get the vehicles & Brian then it would be perfection.

They are unique and memorable. There's an alien goop invasion episode, one where Bikel develops love for a human, one where a young girl is in love with Walter, these are jsut some of my favorite examples. But nearly every episode is a one-off adventure outside of 6. The first episode & final episode of the series are connected. And then the episodes which sees the debut of the Gigastreamer are connected as well. And the there's a two-parte that introduces the Winsquad/Firesquad's ability to transform.
