The problem is I don't really care for Anno. His stories are way too convoluted and tend to feature someone with daddy issues. Hell, the one scene he did in Death Kappa had a lady making out with her grandfather's corpse.

Its the closest thing to an live action Evangelion really. I also think that western audience wont really like this movie, its a movie made for Japanese audiences and features references that really only the Japanese audience will understand.

Finished watching a early screening locally and going to watch it again tonight. Much better than I was expecting and I really think it opened up a few ways a sequel can be done. Color me very impressed. I Loved it!

Watched last night and yes its a good movie, not great but enjoyable. A lot of the talking sections could have been removed as well as a number of characters. In the end this is a movie worth watching. I preferred this story over the story in Godzilla 2014. Going in I thought I would Hate the design of Godzilla but it works.

Saw this tonight. I usually prefer rooting for Godzilla instead of against him, but I loved this movie way more than I expected to. The film is cut in such a way so that it feels very fast paced despite how strongly dialogue and political decision making remains the focus. When you're told that this movie is primarily government officials talking to each other, I think you sort of expect it to be snoozefest, and while it may bore some people to tears I was shocked by just how invested I became in the drama.
Godzilla still looks ridiculous, and I still hate the long wiggly laser tail. That said, a few of his havoc wreaking bells and whistles were very entertaining and I loved the night scenes where the radioactive glow of his skin is especially visible. Most of the time I felt his motion was believable and it's clear where they utilized motion capture to make him appear more lifelike; all the same though, the few sequences where they obviously didn't use mo-cap are very apparent and kind of jarring. A couple of Godzilla's movements felt to me like I was watching our average janky ass Toku CGI with a higher budget, and it sometimes took me out of the action a little bit. It also took me a hot minute to understand the imagery at the end of the film, but once I had, I thought the idea was pretty profound. Leaves me wondering if a sequel is even thematically possible, because I think it would ruin the message left behind here. Last edited by IXRollOutIX; 10-14-2016 at 12:50 AM.. |

Yeah, the CGI was down right dreadful. Godzilla looked like he was pulled out of a PS4 game. Toho should have just stuck with a man in a suit as they clearly don't have the budget to do CGI, so they shouldn't have bothered.

I'll take Shin Godzilla's CGI over the crap they used in Jurassic World anyday. It looked fine. Most complaining about it I think have never seen legit bad CGI.

Then there is the CGI monsters in W with the bad CGI'd bike. Other movies with CGI that matched Shin Godzilla: A Sound of Thunder Godzilla 98 Battlefield Earth Sharktopus Sharknado Victor Frankenstein Van Helsing Hell, the CGI in Beast Wars was as realistic as the CGI in Shin Godzilla. |

The live action film of Spaceship Yamato has the best CG I've seen in a Japanese live action film. Japan to me is always better with suits and 2D animation while America is better with CG and 3D animation.
