Please remember to keep things civil everyone. I’ve gone ahead and messaged both parties.

I've been trying to figure something out, and figured it would be best to ask here since Kamen Rider is the highest earning tokusatsu I know of. How much money does something like Kamen Rider earn vs. big anime and manga franchises on a year-by-year basis? I'm inclined to say it earns more than at the vast majority of anime and manga franchises, especially if you only consider earnings within Japan, but I've been struggling to find an actual breakdown that goes over KR's earnings vs. a highly popular competitor like... Jujutsu Kaisen or something along those lines. Anyone got some cool statistics for me?

Kamen Rider is consistently on this list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...dia_franchises
But a large part of that is how its one big franchise versus a lot of properties that only last a few years or so. Year over year it's still pretty high compared to individual anime and manga. You can find more granular breakdowns in the notes of that page.

A bit shocking to me it makes as much as Sonic with no real global presence! Speaking of a lack of global presence, it's really funny to me that it's a fair bit below both Ultra and Sentai when it's wildly the opposite when looking at JP sales

Yeah, the lack of global presence for Rider makes it really hard to explain to people how insanely popular it is in Japan. That top grossing franchise page on Wikipedia would probably help in the future. Definitely telling people from now on that Kamen Rider makes more money than PAW Patrol.

What's a good movie or special to introduce somebody to Kamen Rider? My gf is interested in it, but I'm not sure what to show her. I thought something quick that could be watched from start to finish would be better than a 50-episode series, otherwise I'll just start Den-O and have her join me.
On a side note, what do I need to watch before Kamen Sentai Gorider?

On a side note, what do I need to watch before Kamen Sentai Gorider? As for something short: - ZO is a nice compact bit of action and Rider at its basics, with some beautiful modelwork, but that basic nature is as much a flaw as it is the charm. - Kamen Rider The First is a movie length reworking of the originl 1971 premise, but is very mid-2000's in its asthetics, and bit or miss as to what bits of the adaptations work. - Show her Super Hero Taisen and pray for the best.

If you wanna use a movie as the introduction, my vote would go towards either Kamen Rider The First or Kamen Rider J. The Kabuto movie could also work, if you decide to start watching Kabuto the series right after it.
