It's "Godzilla Day" today and Tamashii Nations is celebrating with the first new classic Godzilla monster figure in years - Hedorah the Smog Monster! The movie this classic monster spawned from, "Godzilla vs. Hedorah" is also celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
More info on the figure will follow soon. https://mobile.twitter.com/t_feature...54368599220229 |

This is neat.
Probably not gonna be worth the asking price considering how little it can do beyond some arm articulation, but it's neat nonetheless

What I find is cute that Hedorah of all things has a special logo for its 50th anniversary. Maybe its more popular than I thought? I do remember that the director of the movie was very proud of it and wanted to make new movies with Hedorah until he died. I bet he would've loved seeing this. |

It is interesting that Toho would devote so much energy and merch to celebrating a film that Tomoyuki Tanaka himself had claimed "ruined Godzilla", but it looks like it's going to be a thing moving forward. They also revealed the logo for next year's anniversary Kaiju during the livestream: Gigan.

Hedorah is super popular among Godzilla fans and vinyl collectors. It's a popularity That is somewhat ironic, for all the reasons mentioned above.
I definitely find the design endearing and it's a perfect fit for the Godzilla universe. An SHF is totally different market, but I guarantee this thing will fetch insane prices in the after market.

The SHMA line has finally give us Showa stuff after milking the VS movies (80s-90s Heisei movies).

Oh hey! It's the monster that horrified me as a kid! (Don't worry, I'm better now. It's like we're old friends!)
Also great to see SHMA dabbling into Showa monsters, since they're so criminally underrated. But as great as this is, I'm afraid it's too rich for my blood, so I'll stick with the Sofubi figures, especially since Hedorah's looks great either way. |
