Since for some reason Ultra falls under "Other" on this board, this is the correct forum for it, yes.
What exactly was terrible about the first episode of Tiga? What version did you watch? The Foxbox dub is awful, but the episode itself is pretty good I think.

It was just kinda how cheap it all felt. Despite coming out in the late 90s, I've seen super sentai that looks better from like ten years before it. But I actually really appreciate it really rubbery suits and early computer animation for the laughs.

CG never looks good in tokusatsu save for "big budget" features like the Millenium Godzilla movies and the little CG we get in the Hesai Gamera movies.
I lean the other way -- I find the rubber suits to be substantially better looking than the spandex used in Super Sentai, but that's just me. Anyway, stick with Tiga if you are not too busy with Nexus, because Tiga is a good show.

Well, I just finished the first episode of Super Robot Red Baron. And I'd have to say, it was pretty nice. It seems a bit slow (who knows if it picks up in the later episodes), but overall it's pretty entertaining.

So I checked out another episode of Tiga as I want to get into Ultraman once I'm done with Kamen Rider OOO.
So Tiga is an Ultraman with Kuuga's Mighty and Dragon forms then, basically? They have the barely able to differentiate the power between the two style like Kuuga did as well. Between some interesting world building and some gloriously shitty effects I had a lot of fun with this episode. I checked out the opening episode of that Indonesian Toku series, 'Bima Satria Garuda' the quality of this rip and translation was terrible by the way. In terms of the show itself? It was...okay. The fight where Ray first transforms into Bima is FANTASTIC, Bima looks cool as all hell and the fight is extremely well done. Everything else though...felt like someone's web series, rather than an actual toku show, it wasn't cheap feeling...exactly but more just amateurish. It had lots of cool designs and cool ideas but the whole thing was put together in a really clunky fashion and as a film student especially I found myself constantly going 'why would you construct the scene like that?'

More like Kuuga has Tiga's Power and Sky forms.

Episode 2 of Bima practically jumped straight into the suit fighting which actually made me appreciate the suit action less and notice the generally poor production values more. Plus it's odd, it seems to, of all things, rip off Gransazer quite often. Still Helios was pretty cool and I love Bima's design so much, so I want to want to watch more.
Also we got more plot focus this episode as well but it isn't worth talking about as it's so generic. Really it is sorta all the Saban era plots jumbled together. There is some mystic dude with a connection to the villains, a bunch of stones which grant superpowers, the stones come together will mean the end of the world, space pirate war empire people who want to take over the Earth etc etc Just checked out the opening episode of Cutie Honey...because it stared Mikie Hara, I actually knew nothing else about it going in other than that. And...dafuq did I just watch? I never expected an almost scene for scene split of a school girl check up and incest. As a huge Mikie Hara fan though...I enjoyed this...like a lot. Checked out another episode Bima, this was their attempt at an of the week episode. And it was fantastic! Lizardo or whatever his name was was rubbish though. It's weird that in these cheaper series the hand to hand and stunts are always way more impressive than the weapon or power fighting but what is most impressive is this is actually some of the best hand to hand stuff I've seen in Toku since Meteor, Bima moves with such fluidity and grace and I love how they convince the audience he has super human speed and strength, he just feels effortless and natural. I love it.

We watched the first two episodes of Lion Maru G and we had enough. Well, I kind of wanted to give it one more episode before quitting, but my g/f and all of our friends were pretty much after the first episode. The series has some interesting editing, but at the same time, it is annoying and the main character is just down right abnoxious. Plus, the entire thing was just stupid. The only thing I did enjoy was seeing KakuRanger's Junior in it (Kenichi Endo) playing a man named Junior.

Saw the first two episodes of BIMA yesterday, and I liked it. Its not supposed to be complex, this series is meant for taking breaks from toku shows with complex plots and Ryuki endings that will piss you off.
I like BIMA's design, reminds me of both the Phoenix phantom and Kamen Rider OOO Tajador. |
