That was fun! Campy as hell, but fun. For an opener, it was beyond what I expected and I am really, really glad they've kept the build up to the full team. The acting in so-so, but I'm going to give them a chance to develop, grow, and become more comfortable with their characters. Even Jason Faunt & Jen Cahill weren't the best when they started Time Force, I think it's only fair to let these actors prove themselves.

In the popening we see him find his Energem during Caveman times so I´m thinking that hes kinda like Vandal Savage in that the Energem allowed him to live for thousands of years so he witnessed all the technological advancements and thats why he isnt really the fish out of water style character in the show. He was also probably found by Keeper really early and thats why he is already part of the Group. Other things I thought about with the Caveman thing is how they found a way to keep the essence of the Kyoryuger character without making him a straight up copy of Nossan. Cause since he is a Caveman he is by default the oldest member of the Team. |

Cable dispute means I couldn't watch it online, and my phone is too outdated to support the Nick App, but I know another with a phone that can. The fact that we open with a brand-new battle in space isn't all that original, but it definitely looks fresh. Sledge and Co. feel more like true villains than the one-dimensional fools from Megaforce/Super Megaforce (save for Vekar and Vrak). You can see they put a nice little penny or two in the overall design and effort for the ship scenes. A bunch of monster suits being seen aboard cell blocks is an altogether different touch and supports the idea of Sledge as a bounty hunter. To be honest, Sledge's prison cells and Keeper make this feel like S.P.D. more than anything. He is clearly ruthless, but also easily manipulated by Poisandra. The banter and byplay between them can fool one into believing that Sledge is a pushover, but he isn't cuddly and he will blast anyone into oblivion if only to satisfy Poisandra. I do find his design a hard to reconcile with the others, but it may all depend where they decide to take Sledge in the future. I am growing on the Keeper design and feel like appearances deceive and he will be a significant mentor-character for PR. How exactly he can talk to dinosaurs is unknown, unless he does it like Maya from Lost Galaxy and speaks "from the heart". To hide the gems by bonding them to the spirits of dinosaurs is an interesting idea and the fact that Sledge's asteroids are the cause of extinction is just attention to detail, but also raises an interesting PR continuity question: Where did the Dino Gems from Dino Thunder come from again? Jump ahead to modern times and we see a cast of characters who are more than capable of having worthwhile scenes where they actually do something as humans and make it tolerable. Shelby is already showing immense potential and could easily be a fan-favorite Pink Ranger as time passes. The Tyler character also has possibilities, but I think they need to liven things up on his side. Showing the new footage of the monster outlaw Iceage interacting with PEOPLE is always a nice touch and the humor with Tyler and Shelby trying to defend themselves makes it more human and more believable. The shovel defense was unquestionably unique, and the burning scrap that remained was more realistic than one would think. To accidentally shoot a monster with a morpher that some said might not survive in PR is just delicious irony. I does give one pause though as we don't fully know where it came from and why? Of course, our characters know even less and have to go with the flow and morph without realizing it. The short but sweet battle which ended with Iceage getting mouth-tossed by a T. Rex Zord is a triumph in Zord/Monster relations even if it isn't fully explained yet. Overall, it is a great leap ahead from what preceded it and can easily inspire confidence in what is to come. I do wish they would take more time to make the villains and monsters more unique when it came to their voices, but if that is one of the few nitpicks of note, then we definitely have something here.

I haven't sat through a power rangers show in a long time but man, I'm surprised by how good the first episode was. It manages to hit the right level of camp without it being too cringe worthy I find the acting for the villains is still a bit over the top goofy, but at least they're not TALKING IN ALL CAPS any more.
I think my only complaint about this episode was that NOBODY on the freaking expedition team heard Shelby's shouting, or the monster's lasers firing, or the god damned T-REX that was roaring and stomping all over the place. Seriously, where was this writing staff during Megaforce/Supermega Force? |

Tried to watch it, can't because Viacom are a bunch of money-grubbing fuckwads.
That said, the "tell your cable company to pay up or switch to a different service provider" message kinda funny. Bad funny, but funny. Last edited by Switchblade; 01-31-2015 at 12:40 PM.. |

First up. Nick.com has one of the worst players I've ever seen. I remembered it was terrible back when I tried to watch Super Samurai, and now I see that it has not improved after all this time. Please, Nick, improve your player!
Now back to the show. That was AWESOME! The battle sequence at the beginning was terrific and a ton of fun to watch. And I love how we get a sense of each and every one of these characters already. Unexpectedly Shelby was my favourite this episode, but that is not too surprising considering the amount of focus she received. The CGI was pretty bad, though. But I've not come to expect good CGI so it was good enough. The beginning sequence was an exception, it was very well done.

Mine, you mean.
And I agree about Nick's player. It definitely needs work. A quality control, because for whatever reason my PC can't handle 20+ HD videos without fighting me. And the bright orange Comment thing popping in whenever an Ad ended was really annoying. |

My Nick Player was somewhat bearable. At times it had great quality and performed smoothly, but sometimes it just buffered and glitched a lot.

I friggin' love this episode. It really gives me some high hopes for the rest of this season.
Though, I will say that I noticed a lot of parallels between this episode and the first part of Dino Thunder's debut episode. We get to meet the original villain early on but we don't linger, the mentor of the season is fleeing from the villain and his forces while he tries to make off with the crystal devices that will become part of a transformation device later on, the mentor has a brief fight before everything starts to blow up, the Red Ranger of the series ventures into a cave and finds a red crystal that will soon give him power in an area littered with fossils, etc. |

I believe you meant mine. Just because some fat head bounty hunter took your girl doesn't mean you can take mine.
