Ok, I was reading through the Ultraman wikipedia and, apparently, Ultraman Max is going to air on an american TV Network, TOKU, in February. Putting aside how... surreal that is, it got me thinking about the recent efforts being made to bring Toku legally to america. Compared to anime, the Tokusatsu fanbase is niche at best and the genre doesn't really have a hold in american outside of Power Rangers. While this can be a bit of a shame, there are certain benefits to having a rather small fandom instead of a large one. Would you guys be interested in the Tokusatsu genre becoming more mainstream?
Here's where I read the Ultraman Max thing, if your interested. http://tokusatsunetwork.com/2017/01/...ax-next-month/ |

I wouldn't be opposed to Toku gaining more traction in mainstream media.
I was never really one for the hipster style. I don't feel toku is better while it's "Underground" or however you want to put it. With Shout doing the unthinkable and releasing Sentai DVDs and Ultraman airing on American airwaves again, I'm pretty happy. I would love to see more. I may be that asshole that downloads entire series simply to avoid buying the DVDs, it doesn't mean I don't love the fact that we're getting them at all

I'd call it 50/50. It's niche enough that I always feel like there's some new oddity to discover that hasn't been talked to death like how anime seems to be these days.
OTOH, I get a thrill whenever I see people discover and become obsessed with the same things I do, so more mainstream awareness/acceptance would be nice. |

If it means KR figuarts will be more widely available and Sentai figuarts will come back then yes.

Sure. I would love for more people to enjoy tokusatsu and the possibility of DVDs, Toys etc. getting more widely available.

I wouldn't mind Adult Swim making a deal with Shout! Factory and Toei to show Super Sentai seasons a year after they're released on DVD/BluRay. Or maybe go a different direction. I know it's been said before, but someone dubbing Kamen Rider for Adult Swim or Toonami. Probably Toonami. Or even a network like Starz. That'd be nice.

I'm afraid a toku dub airing on Toonami would be a gag dub. I know they take their anime seriously, but toku in the west is still seen as dumb poses and explosions...
