Some nice Akito scenes where he acknowledges Kengo and Yuna have a plan and when he gets an inkling the captain knows more than he's saying, like possibly approving Kengo and Yuna's diversion because he thinks it might be Trigger-related.
Wow, Ribut handed Kengo his butt. And he's also there to help Yuna embrace her connection to Yuzare and start using that more. And what better training than an Ultra Boot Camp, complete with song? Ignis' reaction to the dance sequence was everything. And then seeing Kengo and Yuna actually get into the dancing and do it well was great. Kengo finally realizes he's not just Ultraman Trigger, he's also Kengo Manaka, and he shouldn't push himself too hard beyond his human limits. And we finally hear what Yuzare really meant...Kengo's not the light and the dark, he's the light and human. It's his humanity that defines Ultraman Trigger. GUTS-Select making good use of villainous monster abilities, especially Gan-Q in this episode. Carmearra takes human form so the show has an excuse to show off Sumire Uesaka in dark goth clothing befitting a beautiful villainess and Sumire Uesaka. Is Carmearra hotter in her Ultra form or her human form? I'll leave that to you to decide. Although now I kind of want to see MAO turn up. I'm glad the Dark Giants didn't sit this one out and actually helped GUTS-Select asborb Diavolo's energy. They're not going to let the Absolutian's steal the show from them. Nursedessei finally transforms into dragon form and it looks pretty cool. Not sure how often we'll see it, but still cool. I also like how they acknowledge it makes a mess of anything outside the command room. Ribut gets to use the Sparklence and gets his own Key! And he gets his own Rise sequence! It's awesome! Wow, a Triple Beam Finish on Diavolo! Too bad the Absolutians' Absolute Hearts make them basically immortal. I hope someone from the Land of Light figures that out in-time for Kingdom. I think that's the first time we've seen the captain get super angry. I guess there was only so much he could forgive about Kengo and Yuna being gone. Ribut taught Ignis how to put his power into the Sparklence and Keys and he gets his own Sparklence and Trigger Dark transformation sequence, which is as intimidating as expected. |

When they said Boot Camp, that song was not what I was expecting.
Ribut's second episode with Trigger was fantastic! Lots of nice character moments and developments (for the most part), and the fight was a lot of fun, especially Nursedessei Battle Mode. I was wondering if the rest of the base would be okay when it transformed. It did not disappoint. Of course, this episode now has the plot-hole involving the Absolute Heart (the Absolutians "Color Timer"), in which if they die, they revive. If that's the case, how come Tartarus chickened out every time things got dicey in The Absolute Conspiracy? Guess those other Ultras could have destroyed his Absolute Heart easily, or he didn't want to risk it. It's funny how Carmearra/Carmilla, literally won't let anyone else kill Trigger/Kengo but her. Talk about a grudge. Wonder how she'll react to the new Trigger Dark. It all comes full circle, Kengo accepts he is both human and Ultraman (nice nod to the Mefilas episode from the original), and masters Glitter Trigger Eternity. Ribut is certainly a great teacher, since he also trained Yuna, which is great to see that she's staying relevant to the cast, despite how I thought they wouldn't care anymore after Glitter Eternity debutec. Ribut and Ignis' transformation scenes were great! Glad to see Trigger's picking up after it's rushed start. (It really did pull a Saber!) Next Episode: REMATCH!!! *A monster has appeared* Never mind... |

My excitement for Diavolo dropped. Was hoping he'd just leave instead of getting wrecked already.
Oh well, Tartar Sauce is still here. |

To be honest might as well get him being embarrassed out of the way instead of it happening in the UGF event itself like how it happened to Tartar Sauce. So I'd say that's one point to Absolute Dorito.

Dorito here (Good god, you a genius for coming up with that) got styled on before eating three beams at once and being the first to actually blow up and "die". |

I imagine Diavolo will probably come off a little more capable in The Kingdom, but we had to show off Trigger mastering his new form, Ribut, and the Nursedessei so he was a necessary sacrifice even in his debut arc.

One criticism I have is that GUTS-Select achieved their goal a little too easily. I would have liked to see some conflict, such as convincing the satellite facility to let them use their building. But overall a pretty good episode. Trigger's really been on an upswing for the past few weeks.

I dropped Ultraman Trigger midway through episode 3 because I wasn’t quite feeling it, but decided to get back into it since I had a bit too much time on my hands this week. I caught up completely and well, I think I had a rather enjoyable time. But I would call it my second least favorite New Generations show so far. However, as I always say, it’s Ultraman. If the bar is usually so very high up in quality, coming in slightly below that greatness is still a worthy achievement.
And it’s not the action, special effects or miniature work that disappoints me, all of those are excellent as usual, it’s the story and characters that are a bit weak. The side characters are all in desperate need of being fleshed out. It’s confusing to think how many excellent character moments Z and Taiga had, dedicating entire episodes to support cast members, and Trigger is just doing – well, none of that. There’s nothing for the captain, the muscle guy or that weird lady who keeps screaming "Falcon-chan" all the time, not even the adorable Metron Alien. Although that one had some good screen time in the clip-show episode of all things. Even Kengo, Yuka and Akito could use more time just being "human" IMO. I feel like there’s too much going on in this show, from them trying to juggle the 3 Giants of Darkness as well as Ignis alongside an already relatively big supporting cast, maybe a bit more quality instead of quantity would’ve worked better. But again nothing of it is really bad, just… well, lacking. There’s one thing I want to point out though, a moment that very much caught me off-guard was Yuka learning Kengo was Ultraman Trigger. I’m so used to the usual "Oh well, we knew all along anyways"-reaction Ultraman likes to deliver in these situations that this piece of dialogue blew me away. Fantastic acting from Runa Toyoda as well, what a great moment. |

I'm surprised that Sumire Uesaka made a live-action appearance this early in the show. Totally unexpected.
