It's not actually wrong- because the helmets DO provide safety in a way: They allow the actor to be replaced by an experienced suit actor that has been working as a stuntman in a suit for years and years before.
Even in Sentai, helmetless fights are usually just the finishers, because it would be a stupid idea to have the actors do the actual fighting, especially considering the little explosion effects on the suit- those are extremely dangerous if you do not wear a helmet and do not have any experience with them (the suit actors usually trigger those explosions on their body themselves btw.) With a partially broken helmet, there's the advantage of having the actor in it for close-ups, which usually happens while they're just standing there for a moment, while in the actual fight scenes, they can have the suit actor in it again. Remember, the actors didn't do all the suit work anymore since (I think) Takeshi Hongo's actor got seriously hurt and had to pause for a while. The first actress to do her own suit acting again is Kamen Rider Marika, but she also has a sub to replace her occasionally. It would be cool to see someone in Gaim fight with a broken helmet, but for the actor's safety and because it just doesn't fit Rider in general, I'm against a full helmetless fight. It would be cool though to have the Riders put off the helmets for a moment when they talk to someone after a battle. |

I always figured with characters like W or Accel, the suit actually becomes their body. No way in hell Terui actually folds out into a motorcycle.

He didn't transform so much as lay down. Look at the design, his body didn't contort into something you or I couldn't do. All he did was lay down, fold out some tires, and he was a motorcycle.

And Blade too. He got part of his helmet shot off in one episode.

You know, so that Kouta doesn't look like he is so obviously replaced by a totally different actor when he transforms. Like at the climactic end. Quote:

It's weird isn't it, despite the strong character focus found in Gaim they haven't even tried to make the suit actors match the characters except for Marika as it's the same person.

I mean, do you realise how bloody static they'd be. But then of course the illusion is weakened because Kouta isn't spasming to act through a bulky suit and helmet all the time. Which is why going helmetless for whatever reason would really help. Then again, much like in Power Rangers, I just assume that when wearing a costume basically made of enegry, it kind of makes you more antsy and dramatic in your movements. (and since we know the belts funnel energy straight into the riders, since even a weak lockseed staves off hunger and fatigue, that theory has weight) Last edited by SPLIT LIP; 06-04-2014 at 02:57 PM.. |

The fuck are you talking about? I think the suit actors match the characters relativity well.
