Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if that actually happened TBH. I know I've said this a few times, but I think the Pats will learn of the Lupin's identities on the New year episode, where they do the clip show they usually do. It'll be like a case review, going through everything that's happened in the year, where they gather enough evidence to put two and two together. Then at the end of the episode, The Pats go to Juror where the 3 work, only for Keiichiro to say "You're under arrest, phantom thieves" (cut to next ep preview)

If the show was just the Lupins it would be okay, but it is not just the Lupins, the pats where promoted as just as important as the Lupins and it was supposed to be two teams competing and ending up working together.
It really did not....... The show ended up being fully focused on the Lupins and the Pats just being thrown under the bus by the people making the show and from what we have heard it was due to how badly the toys ended up selling, and because the Lupin toys sold more they decided to just cut the Pats out of importance and switched to secondary characters with jab after jab thrown at them. And that is not mentioning the power ups and mechs. That to me sours the overall experience, the first episodes up to their first giant combination where fun and enjoyable, after that the Pats got demoted as main characters and treated like crap by everyone including X who constantly backstabs them, lies to them etc. Even though they constantly stand beside him and trust him, over and over and over. It just keeps going. I find it hard to root for the Lupins due to this, and they where the team I liked the most from the start. Look we all know this season was not bad overall, the action and stunt work during this run has been fantastic and deserves praise, the suits are great as well. But it sold horribly and that likely in turn changed the entire planned story, it was no longer two teams as protagonists, it was one team with another constantly being shit on by the show itself. That ruined the show for me overall, and it has not been a bad run, I just feel very bad by how the second set of protagonists got treated like dirt in the long run to the point they where not even protagonists anymore. The previous sentai was overall disliked by most people here, and overall I found it problematic as well but at least I can say the characters felt treated well even with such a large cast, even with all the cliches and tropes being used I can at least say I loved the overall team, with this run though I ended up disliking the team due to how the other team was treated by them and the show overall. My main problem with LuPat is that the half of the core cast that I find more enjoyable to watch didn't get anything to do for twenty episodes besides look like fools, so I'm really burnt out on it and there's little to do to rescue it at this point.
There are some bits I do like - as others have pointed out, the Pats and Umika are pretty fun characters, but Touma is our standard "jerky Blue" (who's at his most enjoyable when he's forced not to be that, see the dancing episode) and Kairi is just not fun to watch. His arc is interesting, sure, but I can't help but see it as unnecessary conflict that's coming too little, too late. And I really, really don't like Noel. His smarmy arrogance, how he treats the Pats, how he's rewarded for it, it all irks me. And the plotting... yeah, it's bad. You can compare it to Wizard, but at least Wizard felt like it was building to *something*, and its final arc still stand out to me as really strong. Zyuoh less so, but I like all the cast in Zyuoh, and they actually managed to share out the screentime with them, probably because they weren't promoting one half of the team at the expense of the other. Add it on to another year where the villains are kinda boring and don't do anything right until the endgame, (it's been like this since ToQGer, imo), and it all adds up. And it's annoying because it feels like there are some easy fixes to all this. Let the villains have more interactions between themselves, let them have arcs. (Not that the show can do it for more than two rangers here, it seems, but oh well.) You added Noel to the Pats, so maybe you can avoid the problem of the Lupins having to steal the treasure by having Noel do it, and need to give some to the Pats to feign loyalty to them. Or actually have him develop loyalty to them, because of the good old "power of teamwork" message Sentai usually loves. Idk, something about this whole show doesn't click for me, and it hasn't been clicking for a long time. Last edited by VoidinToku; 12-12-2018 at 05:14 AM.. |
