So a few days ago I posted how I'd have done Megaforce/SuperMegaforce. It really wasn't a PR General Question so I decided to create it's own thread for it as I want to do more of these. Here's the original post if you missed it:
Quote:
There's a channel on YouTube I watch where every now and again Adam does "How I Would've Booked" where he takes an existing WWE storyline and tells how he would've booked it better. Because he's a smartass. Well I decided because this is the internet and I like following the crowd that I'd do one for Power Rangers. And because I'm sitting here bored you-know-what-less. This is..
How I Would've Done Megaforce/SuperMegaforce Now there are some obvious points I should mention first. Like better casting, for example. Aside from the VO work during those seasons which was spot on. We'll start with story. Firstly, No Gosei and no Tensou. May they forever be thrown into the same dark pit we threw Operation Overdrive and Jayden's creepy stare into the camera in the yogurt shop. I appreciate it was an anniversary season and you were trying to invoke memories of Zordon. But all that happened was you disappointed thousands of people with your giant Brady Bunch Tiki God and his effeminate rolling sidekick. The story opens with alarms blaring inside a smooth arched hallway. Red lights flashing, overhead lights flickering to life, and the camera moving through the corridors like someone running at full stride. A POV shot which ends as the hall opens into a large domed command center. CGI screens come on surrounding what we see is an updated version of Alpha. Alpha Sigma. She moves from screen to screen which are all showing the same image, a large ship coming into orbit around earth. And with a classic "Aye Aye Aye!" she presses a large red button. Because why not a large red button. If it's good enough for David to break the blood spell of the Cydoracs (Certain I butchered that spelling) it's good enough for Power Rangers. And one does not question David Tennant and his floofy hair. Anywhoodles. The button is pressed and a cryochamber opens revealing an elderly man in alian armor. Long white hair, goatee, very new-age gandolph. His name is Gosei. I like the name, not the Tiki God, so his name is Gosei. Being in Cryo explains why he hasn't been around the last 2000 years, and why he hasn't helped before this season. He was put in cryo by Zordon as earth's last defense should a threat arise above what anyone has faced before. So he wakes and slowly rises from the chamber. Sees the threat approaching and nods to Sigma. Saying only "Wake the Power." We move on to Angel Grove HS. Class is starting but everyone's talking about the ship caught on telescope and cameras all over the news. It hasn't done anything, it's just sitting there. But class goes on. So we follow our heroes as the day goes on, getting to them a little bit as you do. But by the end of the day it happens. The Warstar (The name's good) launch their attack led by Lord Vrak. Making him the main villian of the series and ignoring the other Warstar exist. It's Vrak and his Generals. They start laying waste and the heroes of our story start helping civilians. Well, seeing the good they do as 'normal' people the power finds them of course and they're given the morphers and a deck of cards. Which causes confusion and one of them to make a poker-pun as you do. So now we come to the morph. The back flip into their power stays. It was an excellent shot. But where I'd change it is as they land suited up, the camera would slow pan around their faces as the helmets form. And they also would absolutely not yell out their color. Saban, I love you. I really do. But calling out their color is stupid. We see what color they are, we know the leader is red, we don't need them screaming it out. Thank you. So during the battle they beat back Vrak's first general and show off their weapons and zords, standard PR faire. Now. As the season progresses the Rangers beat back Vrak. First by destroying his most powerful general, Goseiger's Mons Drake, and his ship. Then by beating him back physically. He licks his wounds and through a sacred seal he creates the Mutants. Also creating himself new armor and weapons in the process. The rangers, getting their butts kicked by this new Vrak and his new Mutants, go to Gosei for help. But, calling back to the White Ranger arc is MMPR, he and Sigma are no where to be found. Now during all this (Again calling back to MMPR) there's a new student in school. This new student shows great strength, heart, and courage, so Gosei recruited him for a new power. The rangers head back out as the alarm sounds and as they're getting their butts kicked a new man shows up. This new student and tells them to stand down. He can handle this himself. The rangers, not knowing he's a new ally, try and stop him but he shrugs them off and zips up his new jacket. Silver, with gold and black, and Gosei Knight's symbol on the back. Where he pulls his Leonus Morpher out of his pocket. And his change card. Calling out It's Morphing Time he changes into Leonus Knight. He kicks butt, of course, but after the battle as the Rangers try and welcome him he shrugs them off. Saying if they were strong enough they wouldn't have needed his help and that he can do this better alone. As the arch progresses he comes around, cause of course he does, and joins the rangers with his powerful Leonus Megazord. Vrak escapes though, as he does, and becomes angry and desperate.. But he has a plan. He breaks into the command center and kidnaps Sigma. Turning her into his new Metal Alice. Vrak created her to help him defeat the rangers but she determines he loses because he's to weak to do it himself. So she forcefully changes him into Metal Vrak. They spend the next few episodes beating them too. Leading to Vrak kidnapping and brainwashing Leonus. Harking back to In Space and Andromeda. They save him, of course, and beat Vrak, of course, and save Sigma. Of course. But at the end Vrak disappears.. and a new threat emerges. The Armada has arrived led by Vrak's older brother. Now Gosei knows the Rangers can't stop this new threat with their current power. Even using their Golden Aura (Super Mode). So Gosei recalls them just as the Armada opens fire on them and takes them into a sealed vault deep inside the command center. Inside is a chest filled with keys shaped like Rangers from the past. And he explains, in a nod to Gokaiger, that this was taken off infamous Space Pirates who knew it'd be needed one day. And he explains that sometimes it takes a Pirate to save the world and not all heroes are black and white. A good life lesson, and helps explain the pirate motif better than Megaforce ever did (Not that MF or SMF ever explained everything). So they take the morphers and Leonus sees there's only five. Gosei explains that his power won't work with the Pirate tech so he has to stay behind while Gosei and Sigma work on the problem. During each episodes they go to a different location helping an old Ranger from the past, harking to Gokaiger, and setting up the finale.During this they learn the Armada is here for the very power their using. Knowing if they have the Ranger Keys and turn their soldiers into Rangers from the past they can conquer anything. But since they can't take the keys they figure the next best thing is taking rangers from the past and turning them into soldiers of the Armada. Believing with the Rangers in hand they can steal the power that way too. Midway through Leonus gains the Silver Power, which is reshot completely because Gai's mannerisms only work with Gai, and gains the powers of all the Sixths throughout PR history. Now. The Armada is defeated. Yay Power Rangers. And we come to where Vrak went.. See, he defeated the Armada. The Rangers arrive on the Flagship and see monsters and generals all laid to waist with someone sitting on the throne. Vrak in his true and terrible form. Seraphim Vrak. He gleefully explains that he defeated the Armada and their generals soon as the Armada arrived and the Rangers have been defeating converted soldiers this whole time to maintain the illusition. He then starts kicking butt. Rangers beaten down, power broken, morphers crushed, hope lost. Proving his power is superior he makes them watch as the lays waste to the command center as they're trapped on the Flagship. Gosei is beaten, Sigma is broken, the power is gone. And as Vrak blocks the sun.. he sees lights in the sky. Red, Yellow, Blue, Violet (Black), Pink, and on and on. And as he questions what is happening you hear "Power Axe!' And he's blasted back off his feet. Only to stand and see the canyon they're in flanked on every side by Rangers from the past. This takes into consideration Saban giving old actors enough time to return and most of them saying yes. In my version they also don't ignore Titanium and give him the leading roll instead of Tommy. Jason (Cause Austin St. John is Epic) offers the new Red a hand to his feet and grasps his shoulder. Telling him that Zordon once said the power is always inside you. Just look for it. The new Rangers all close their eyes and their bodies begin glowing. Vrak, angered by this turn, attacks but the Rangers are protected each by large golden wings. Revealing their Golden Aura modes and their original suits. The new Red yells "You can never defeat the Power! And you aren't destroying our home!" The Rangers gathered around them cheer on as Jason says he's all theirs. He and the Past Rangers will focus on beating back Vrak's army and saving the people. And the battle begins. In the distance old Megazords fight giant monsters. Megazord, Ninja Megazord, Titan Megazord, and on and on. As Rangers fight on the ground led by Jason and Leonus knight. Who, before he left to help, gave the new Red his Leonus Calibur (Leon Kaiser). Telling him he'll need the power to stop Vrak. The battle rages. The Past Rangers win out and watch as Gosei broadcasts the fight in the skies above Angel Grove. With his voice booming he says "This Battle is for the Fate of Humanity, you have a right to watch it unfold." The battle goes on, the Rangers almost lose until Red stands and rallies his friends. Telling them what they've meant to him through this double-season. And asks them to join him one last time. One by one they rally by his side and bring their weapons together for one final attack. Seraphim Vrak is defeated. The sun is restored. And the Armada drifts helplessly through space towards the sun. Good wins, the Past Rangers say their goodbyes, and Gosei appears as the power of the Rangers disappears. He explains "The Power always leaves when the job is done. But when it's needed, the Power will return. And the Rangers are never defeated" And the season ends. In my season, I should mention, ther won't be "other Teams" appearing. No Dairanger, or Liveman, just actual American MMPR teams. I should go over names at some point too. Power Rangers Megaforce is idiotic and sounds slapped together at the last second "We need a name, the new show starts shooting tomorrow!" "Uh Uh Uh Uuuuuh.. They're a mega force so... Megaforce!" Yea, no. Personally I liked the 'leaked' Celestial Squadron. Honestly, I like the simple name Power Rangers Victory. And for the Gokaiger part change the name completely to the fitting Power Rangers United. |

And here we are with how I'd have done the original season of MMPR. Now before I start, I understand a lot of why MMPR was as it was was (was was) because of budget. They didn't have the money for a lot of new footage. But since this isn't reality I'm going to do how I'd have done MMPR without budgetary constraints.
First, I'd keep the cast exactly how it was. Austin, Thuy, straight on down the line. Including JDF but don't you worry I'll be handling him later on. Second, I'd obviously keep the motif. Kids in high school, Dinosaurs, all of it. The show would open a lot like it did when it aired. Except that alien planet which obviously wasn't the moon yet was called the moon would actually look more like the moon in this version. No bright sky, no desert, just dark and dust. Astronauts wake Rita and after she sends them off scared tells them to warn their people. Their ancestors imprisoned her preventing her mission (More on that later) and she wants revenge. Rita being freed activates alarms in the Command Center where Zordon dispatches Alpha to find him teenagers with attitudes. This was the 90's remember, you needed attitude for everything back then. He finds them, they fight Goldar, and on we go. the first real serious deviation from the original comes (More than just quality) when we reach Green with Evil. I'd change the story. See, originally Rita wants Jason as her Green Ranger. Kidnapping him and trying to force the Dragon Power into his body. She fails as his Red Power and strength/overall goodness stops it from happening. What it does do is help Jason teleport to safety where he lands in an alley and finds.. Tommy. Who helps Jason as Rita attacks him, in anger she thinks she can destroy Jason now while he's weak before his friends arrive. She almost succeeds until she sees Tommy defending Jason and actually winning. Powerless. She smiles and kidnaps him instead. Infusing him with the power he becomes the evil ranger, does bad things, and it all ends with a hug. Again the show progresses normally until Goldar, wanting to impress Rita, challenges Tommy one on one. Knowing if he reclaims the Green Power Coin and the DragonZord he'll be her favored Knight once again. Tommy accepts, believing in his own power but Goldar lies and Scorpina makes her debut. Together they beat Tommy down until the other Rangers arrive. Rita, learning what Goldar planned, refuses to let this chance slip away and dispatches the only other MMPR villian who ever did anything memorable in the original version of the series. Lokar. Or the other giant floating blue head to appear on screen. Lokar forces them into their Megazord but Goldar snatches Tommy before they can escape. Kimberly falls with him and defends Tommy. Giving her much needed character growth. She's beaten, of course, and in a twist... Goldar kills (Yes Kills. As in dead) Tommy. It happened in kids shows back then Almost all the OG Autobots died in transformers the Movie, a GI Joe died I forget which one. So Tommy's dead. They don't show blood obviously but it's heavily implied he's dead. The coin can't fall to Rita again so at that moment an enranged Jason starts kicking ass. Avenging the man who saved him. During the battle the Dragon Coin shines and combined with the T-Rex Coin creating the Dragon Rex coin and giving Jason the nifty chest-shield and dagger. Now we skip ahead because the rest of the show goes the usual way until Lord Zedd arrives. Rita mentioned when she was freed that she was on a Mission when she was defeated and now he's come to learn what happened to her after feeling her energy return. And finds out she's failed so many times that she needs replaced. So he locks her awake again, like before, and blasts her into space again. Like before. One thing about my Zedd is he doesn't get watered down like happened when the show originally aired. Parents complained he was to scarey and they nerfed the character and it upsets me to this day. In my version he stays the ultimate leader of evil. The powers are given differently in this version too. In the original Zordon, somehow, turned Dinosaurs into a Gryphon and a Unicorn (Without a horn. A unicorn without a horn is a horse, Zordon). In my version Zordon says "The ThunderZords are the original weapons used by Rangers centuries ago to defeat Rita. They were locked away due to their power but now I see they are needed again for this new threat" So Zedd causes mayhem. Only I'd keep his 'gimmick' where he says that he can only make Monsters out of living things. It got forgotten later on where he made a camera come alive and brought a beetle out from a poster. But I liked that gimmick so it stays. Only things they are alive. So midway through the season Rita's prison encounters a rogue comet and breaks open. Riding the comet, as you do, she crashes into Earth's Moon where Zedd as taken over her fortress and challenges him for the throne. Whoever defeats the Rangers keeps the throne. Creating what, I think, would've been a badass rivalry as they try to out-evil each other. But needing their combined power to make Monsters grow. The Rangers are getting killed at first but Zordon has been working on a project. The White Power. It just needs a Ranger. One thing that bothered me about S2 of MMPR was how out of place JDF's acting was with the original character from Dairanger. So this would be an all new person. Say Trini's little brother. It gives them a white ranger and creates story as he learns about her life as a Ranger and what it means to be one himself. And because he's younger (Not as young as what's his name from In Space) it also gives the viewer a chance to see the world through his eyes and put themselves in his shoes. Learning lessons, being good people. Again show progresses. But where in S2 they never explained where the hell Tor and Serpentara came from, I would. Zordon discovers a power signal from Mars. There are two and he knows they are lost weapons from his home planet which must've crashed on Mars when he came to Earth. He dispatches the Rangers, Zedd dispatches Goldar and Scorpina (Who needed to stay cause she was amazing), and they race for the Weapons. When they arrive the Rangers find Tor and Goldar finds Serpentara. The problem being they need power. Specifically they need Power Ranger Power. So the Rangers get Tor running without an issue and ready themselves to grab Serpentara as well. But Goldar, being smart which he is rarely given credit for in S2, jerryrigs it to run without a Power Coin. But power is very limited. He only has enough to escape Mars and run for the Moon before crashing outside Zedd's castle. The Rangers take the win and return home with their new Zord. Zedd decides to use the power from his staff to power Serpentara. It's not enough to conquer reality like he wants but it is enough to power the beast when he needs it. And it gives Zedd the aura of being as powerful solo as a team of Rangers. Again, in my version he's a badass. The season progresses. Until, much like Zedd, a new threat arrives. Master Vile and Rito Repulsa (Who has the same last name. Why he was called Repulso in the original when they're siblings is beyond me). Vile greets his daughter while chastising Zedd for losing despite having a weapon like Serpentara. Vile imprisons Zedd forcing him to watch as Vile does what he never could. Kill the Rangers. Rito, who I tend to make a real threat, beats the Rangers so bad he makes a game of it. Dismantling their Zords in battle one by one before destroying their morphers. Powerless, Zordon recalls them and tells them there is a power. The Ninja Power. It was used on a distant planet centuries ago to beat back an evil much like Vile and rests waiting for another to claim it. They go, of course, and run into Ninjor who denies them the power much like before. They earn their power much like before and the Ninja saga begins. Where I'd differ is actually explaining why, even though they're ninja's, their suits look the same. I'd explain that the suits are just clothing. The real power lies inside the suit, so the Ninja Power created what was inside. I'd also change the suits with their Ninja Power Coin emblazoned on the chest much like the toys. Bridging old and new. I'd also change the order they get their Zords to match the original. Shogun into Ninja, having Ninjor explain "As your power grows it will evolve". I'd also explain the lack of a Pink Ranger by having her sacrifice her power at the start of the battle with Vile. Her morpher is destroyed but she explains she can't do it anymore. The threats never stop, she wants to be with her family, some honorable reason like that. Making it five Rangers and making the Zords make more sense. Flimsy, I know. As their power evolves so does their suits, you see. Going from Dai to kakuranger. I hate the Alien Rangers. I hated that hole mini-season. I hated the time reversal, I hated them going back in time, I hated the whole damned thing. So in my version it never happens. Now the end of the series leading into Zeo. Zedd breaks free and ransacks the Castle. Destroying Goldar and Scorpina for their betrayal, laying waste to any monster that gets in his way, banishing Rita into the sun, he goes on the rampage to end all rampages. Then comes face to face with Vile. He destroys Rito out of hand and pulls out a weapon he found deep inside the castle. The Zeo Crystal. Vile panics. Warns him what he's holding can unmake reality. It's a weapon he wouldn't even use because it's so unstable. But Zedd right now doesn't care. He's angry, he wants revenge, he activates the crystal. Vile can't stop it but he can give himself a chance to escape. He sends Zedd to earth with the Cryal in desperation and runs away only to have his ship be destroyed by Zedd from Earth. Laughing at him for running like a coward. Zedd starts using the Crystal to beat the Rangers down. Zack down, Trini down, all of them down. Until he gets to Jason. Jason uses his skill and gets hold of the Crystal changing the power.. See, the reason it was so unstable for Vile is it knew he was evil. It responds to whoever is holding it. Evil gets chaos, good gets.. Zeo. He uses the Crystal to finally destroy Zedd once and for all and as their celebrating the Machine Empire arrives. Drawn by the energy from the crystal they want to use it as their power source to launch a galaxy wide war against everything organic. And the season ends with Jason breaking the Crystal and handing a piece to each Ranger, having that piece become a Zeo Changer. And ends with Jason holding up his morpher calling out "It's Morphin' Time!" but a hand reaches for his and claims the pink Crystal. Kimberly. And with all six rangers reunited they morph into Zeo and run towards Camera ending the season with the PR Zeo title card. And that is how I'd do MMPR From S1 to S3. |
