It's unfortunate. I'm sure some would have lightened up and possibly reconsidered if the email was addressed to them...

The problem with putting it on the actors is that its not just that they're not going to get paid much if anything for doing this - it's that Saban is going to make a ton of money off of their effort. This isn't a charity gig.
The official line is that there's not money in the budget - that doesn't mean they're scraping by to put this show on, it only means Saban only allotted a slim amount of money to achieve this. He's still going to be making a massive profit either way. They just planned it poorly. If Saban wants this to happen, he needs to meet them somewhere in the middle. Most of the actors are North American, and flights to New Zealand are expensive. So shoot the reunion scenes somewhere in the US where a flight will cost a couple hundred bucks, as opposed to over a thousand to New Zealand. Toei could manage it a lot easier because everyone involved lived in Japan. If all those actors had to fly 10 or more hours on their own dime just to be involved, they probably wouldn't have managed it either. |

Would you? because the way I see it from many actors is that Power Rangers isn't something they want to hang onto for the rest of their lives. That point in their life is done. Sure, they'll go to cons and meet and greet and recall past experiences with the fans, but they get paid to do that.
To put it into a better perspective, if my boss called me back to participate in the 20th anniversary of a business, while during my tenure there at said business was extremely terrible and the work conditions sucked, the pay was horrible, and I was mistreated, I'd still tell him to go fuck himself. Why should I be involved with the celebration of something that while climbing that ladder to make happen, I was just a simple rung? And I'm not even saying the actors are saying "go fuck yourself" to Saban, but they're certainly not thrilled. Lastly, though I didn't say going to work at McDonald's, I certainly can use it because the McDonald's employee would get paid more to do it. That's exactly what I'm saying. Reunions are planned far ahead of time. Well, all reunions but this one it seems. And flying across the country? 328 roundtrip on a good day at Southwestern. (It's the air service I use when I fly, because it's cheap) but the cost to go to New Zealand and back? Hah. And just because they're former actors on a kids show, doesn't mean they're rolling in the big dough either. Justin Nimmo (Zhane, Silver In Space Ranger) is the co-owner of a Rent-To-Own store in Oklahoma. If you want a business to be successful, you don't just run off on a whim and not get any sort of compensation for it. So far, your analogies have been a swing and miss. But I'm saying what I would say. It's pretty obvious that most of the actors aren't happy with the way their treated but it doesn't mean that they're not happy with their fans (customers, I guess.) No actor would outright say "fuck you" to Saban, but you can tell (See: Matt Austin) that they're none too pleased with the "offer" they received. Because they've moved on with their lives! How hard is it to understand that? Most of the actors have Tweeted that they don't even know what Megaforce is! They don't keep up with it. For most, it's a very bad mark on their lives and while they're thankful for the fans, they don't want to go back, under any circumstances. Considering these are the worst kind of circumstances, I can see why they would say no. You say that, but would you? Did you work on Power Rangers? Were you an actor on the show? Here's what we know from previous actors stating events that happened while on the show, and none of it is exactly memorable: - Lousy Pay - Unsafe working conditions - Extreme physical conditions - Long hours - Not many breaks Why would you go back to that? Even for a day? No, the easiest thing to do is to say "what you would do" while wearing your rose colored glasses and pretending everything on set was just fine because you've experienced it and was there. It all happened to you, so you'll be disappointed in the actors, because as a fan, you're not getting your way. I'm not trying to be rude here, but when many, many of the actors say that it's not worth it, what do you think that means exactly? I have a hard time with the whole point about the short notice too. As I said, the whole world knew that both Gokaiger and the 20 year anniversary were coming. It's not like that was some secret that only Saban would have known about. It wouldn't take a an über wealthy genius to identify a time frame for the filming and start putting some money aside or saving up vacation days. I don't understand how actors can simply wash their hands of Power Rangers. When you star in a TV show, especially portraying a super hero in a children's show, I think you do have to realize what that means to a lot of people. When you become a kid's childhood hero, it really is a disservice to a lot of fans to just put that behind you and move on. It's not just any old lousy forgettable job. I may not have been an actor on Power Rangers, but everybody has had jobs or experiences that they didn't like. That's a part of life. What adult can honestly say that they haven't done something that they didn't want to for a good reason? You have the right to, but do you just say no to that wedding or graduation or birthday party just because nobody's paying you enough to travel and sit through an boring or uncomfortable experience for a few hours or *gasp* even a day or two? If you can't make it, you can't make it, but you at least try, not because it's great fun or financially advantageous, but because it's important to somebody. It's not all about me, it's about all Power Rangers fans, really. Heck, we wouldn't be here on tokunation.com if we weren't all fans. Again, this shouldn't be a news flash to anyone, but you really shouldn't sign up to be a super hero if you don't want to have fans who will want and expect to see you and your character after your contract is over. When you become a hero and a role model, that comes with the territory. The actors can do as they please with their lives, but don't expect the fans to applaud when they remind us that they've 'moved on' or use this huge opportunity to stick it to their former employer. It's not just between Saban and the actors. There's a ton of fans (many of them lifelong) who are watching this story closely as well, and it's just disappointing to feel like we mean less to them than their gripes about their stints as Power Rangers do.

Your whole post pretty much sums up the attitude that I'm unhappy with. You describe it like it's nothing more than a personal financial decision that effects no one else. I'm sorry, but it's hard for me to have a lot of sympathy for the actors if their whole attitude is "If I'm not getting paid then fuck it."
