The defenses of the Northern Base are shattered, leading to an all-out assault on the fortress.

Sucks the stream got cut off. Stupid copyrighting issues!!!!
Hope we'll see more of Tategami Hyoujuu Senki! Next week a fight between Logos vs Saber & Calibur. But poor Touma.... he'll be joining Luna on the other side hopefully! |

I'll put my full thoughts once subs are out, but so far, Tategami's fight was a great use of its abilities. Didn't think he had wings! Sugihara's directing is still great even without the movie budget! Gonna miss Zooous and flips, too...

While understandably rare and impractical, I'm glad our swordsman of water finally got an underwater fight.
Rampage Vulcan's debut is a lot to live up to. The emotional weight, impact, and special effects still hold a special place in my heart. Rintaro's alright, though. |

Now with subs! This was great. Nicely done victory for both Touma and Rintarou! Tho, it'll need some explaining soon how Touma was able to see Durandal's attack since that came out of nowhere.
This is probably the end of Kamen Rider Blades: the show since this is the culminating point of his character. The start of the show his catchphrase was that he swore upon Nagare that he would protect the world, but that was his task, his "job". Protecting his loved one is what matters the most! And to Sophia, that leads to saving the world as well. But it's not the end for him! We still have yet to see what his land-based power is and next week he's facing off against Sabela along with Kenzan and... Dezast?! Speaking of Sabela, I can smell that redemption coming along soon. It's obvious both he and Durandal are in the dark about all this and are losing their composure. Tho, I suspect Durandal's death is what gets Reika to switch sides. Next week, Touma and Kento share a meal! What a nice wholesome moment that will no doubt turn into them screaming at each other hah. Master Logos comes out and'll proceed to beat on both Calibur and Saber with his bare hands. Or swords. Without transforming! Also, I really like double rider shots so that scene of Calibur and Saber together was really cool. Would have made it better if Kento was in Jaou instead though. It would seem that Logos has sometihng to do with Luna as well. I'll miss Zooous. Also, he actually had the better end than Legeiel lmao. He acknowledged Rintarou's strength and earning his respect before dying. Very cool. Storious is still up to no good, though. Seems that the book Sophia is hiding isn't Tategami, but clearly something else! |

In this Super Hero Time, the Swordsmen fight in the North Pole, while Vroon ends up in the South Pole. Talk about symmetry!
How about that amazing debut of Blades Tategami Hyoujyuu Senki though?! That's my new favorite fight scene of the show now. You don't really get to see a big fight scene outside of Japan like this often. I think the last time we got a North Pole fight was in Sun Vulcan, then a South Pole fight in Bioman. Is this really the first time for the 21st Century and for KR in general? Awesome! I like how he can make ice constructs using animal powers, similar to how Cross-Z Charge can make jelly constructs. It's important what this means to Rintarou as well, finally freeing himself from the leash of the corruption of SOL and declaring his own statement of heroism, the values he stands for and the things that he wants to protect. I think that's a good moral, that these organizations can only ever be as moral as the people behind it and Rintarou is probably the most archetypal chivalrous knight character in this show. This moment is appropriately as heroic as it is emotional and shows that he can take charge of his own story, like Touma taught him. I would have to liked to see Zooous getting his Predator mode and showing his determination to defeat Blades, instead of it happening offscreen and now he's suddenly just there. Out of the 3 Megid generals, I thought he was the one with the most interesting personality and backstory. He expressed the most concern for his comrade Legeiel's death, even just a little, and takes his own death like a sportsman as well, which is consistent with his respect for strong enemies, showing that he finally acknowledges Rintarou as a worthy adversary like Kenshin was once. I think this was a good conclusion to their rivalry and Zooous' character arc. It's nice to see more of the Northern Base, outside of the library, even though it's predictably very similar to Southern Base. Ogami gets knocked unconscious twice here, this is not his lucky day. Reika continues to be a complete loser, while Ryouga isn't much better but seems to be at least slightly competent. Touma's sudden ability to see his trick sure gave him an advantage but I wonder how that's manifesting here? Sophia even endures some injuries as she tries to keep the force field up against Zooous Predator to protect the Swordsmen, showing that she's really more useful and brave than people give her credit for. The title may be a reference to Let It Go, but the cold definitely bothers Rintarou, who gets the sneezes.

Another neat episode. But, I'm getting tired of seeing elemental dragon.
even seeing Buster who has been around since episode 3 feels fresher. Last edited by wiardisttra; 04-25-2021 at 11:11 AM.. Reason: Add some stuff |

So, pretty out of nowhere, we've got a fourth writer for Saber, Hiroki Uchida, whose previous tokusatsu credits include exactly one episode each of Ultraman X and Orb, and more recently, a few of GARO -VERSUS ROAD-. Not exactly a household name yet, but you never know; we might be seeing it more often in the future.
It doesn't hurt those chances that this is a pretty solid script that doesn't notably clash with the show so far, which probably is worth commending for a new writer. It's not like some standalone Sentai episode you can almost write in a void -- we're over halfway through Saber at this point, and there's a ton of narrative momentum any given script needs to maintain, and this one does that fairly well. I don't think it's perfect, exactly. Certain specific elements, like Touma's poorly explained ~sort of~ solution to fighting Durandal, aren't the best executed they could've been, but if I'm being honest with myself, those are probably more Saber problems than they are Hiroki Uchida problems. None of these things are completely unheard of for this series. The broad strokes of the plot, though, they work great. I appreciate simple touches like Touma and Rintarou making that promise at the start to get through this that gets called back to at the end, once they have, and of course, it's a good showing for Rintarou himself, which is all you can ask for out of a debut for a new Blades form. You don't exactly see the guy in any new light in this one, since most of that development already happened the prior few weeks, but it builds off that in a straightforward enough way to where it's satisfying seeing Blades kick the bad guys off his lawn after an episode of them smashing up his house. Whatever flaws the script might have are pretty hugely covered up by Sugihara's direction, though, because he's not new to this, and oh man, can he ever deliver. You want an epic fight at the North Pole done on that weekly episode budget? Sugihara's your guy, apparently. It's a stellar climax, of course, working in tons of digital effects that are clearly cheap and/or unconvincing, but not necessarily unappealing to look at, which is a crucial distinction. I'm not sure how he does it, but Hyoujuu Senki's crazy ambitious debut fight had a great sense of scale, moving to so many different locations and showing off all its different powers. The strength of his direction extends way beyond that, though, with a lot of more minor touches that I loved. The way Zooous is made to look so utterly vicious when he's smashing through walls and whatnot was particularly impressive. It also dovetails nicely with a touch in the writing I loved, which was him trying to smack Storious, who effortlessly blocks it as the hallway they're both in basically explodes from the sheer force. Just a really neat moment to emphasize how powerful both of those characters actually are, I thought.

Touma needs to get stabbed with the Stand Arrow in order to unlock Saber Requiem, only then can he fully unlock his abilities to beat King Crimson.
