Why do one person upgrades happen in Super Sentai. Not just Super Sentai, but a lot of team based tokusatsu like the Rescue Force series. While sometimes they go with a power up that's shared with the rest of the team, why not just make one for every member? I know the Red Ranger is the main character and his going to get just a little more focus no matter how balanced the attention is between all the members, but this is still Super SENTAI. I just don't understand why they can't just give everyone there own powerup.

I've actually thought about that. I mean, sometimes the power-up can be used by the rest of the team, like in Ninninger. Maybe they want to keep it special by giving it to only one?
Then again, they could sell more toys if each team member got a power-up.

Regardless of it being a team red is the face of the team and no need to spend more money so probably why.
Let us not forget though that there were teams where everyone got a power-up one of them being the pioneer of this gimmick Fiveman.

Or they could go the BOA route and just make them anyway

Pretty sure the answer is toy sales, and it has almost nothing to do with the plot or story.
First, keep in mind that in Japan, the main toy sellers for Sentai are the combining mecha (and, more recently, the collectible gimmicks). The individual hero action figures are generally a secondary seller. In a market where action figures are already a secondary seller, it seems unlikely that many kids would be interested in buying multiple versions of the full team of hero action figures. But! They might buy a duplicate of one, if his (or her... but hahahaha at that thought) power-up form is cool enough. Then factor in the costs required to design and produce the molds for a whole line of powered-up sentai heroes. It costs 1/5th the amount to design and manufacture just one powered-up hero. Add all those factors together, and I think you have your answer. |

Interesting. I didn't know that the mecha was the best seller but I'm not surprised. Maybe since they started selling the collectible separate, more people are buying them?

Kamen Rider = Action Figures and Role Play Toys Super Sentai = Mecha Toys Of course there's crossover, and certain outlier series have more appeal in one category than another, but in general this tends to be the case. I think the failure of the Super Sentai Figuarts line is an extension of this divide. |

That's what the whole sixth ranger idea is built on, afterall. |

Fiveman (Five Tector), Gingaman (Light of Ginga or Orion Light in PR Lost Galaxy), and Dekaranger (Deka Swat) has upgrade form in all five member.
Yeah...I think it would be cooler if all member has upgraded form. |
