My recommendation to everyone before they waste more energy is that you all just leave this person to run this fantasy thread they took over for themsleves, without further acknowledgement.

the only debate you've ever started(I'm being generous here by calling it a debate) here is how silly you look by talking about squid game and k-dramas every post no one fucking cares that other foreign shows have massive fanbases in the US except you. toku doesn't have to be big in the US just because everything else is. it has affected no one's enjoyment aside from your fragile self-esteem again, stop speaking for entire communities whom you know jack shit about. go make a fanfiction about an alternate universe where toku is the new squid game with that being said I feel really bad that anyone could be this embarrassed about enjoying toku - to the point you're jealous that squid game has a massive following Quote:
As I said previously again and again, we have K-dramas, and C-dramas that is using toku-like special effect. So yes, there should been a crossover between people who watch tokusatsu and people who watch these fantasy/sci-fi special effect heavy TV dramas. I mean as I stated, we've seen anime/manga fans crossing over to K-drama and K-pop, it should've been easy for fans of K-dramas to crossover to tokusatsu if these same K-drama fans are watching special effect heavy dramas.
as I and many others have said previously again and again, you genuinely have zero idea what you're talking about and you shouldn't speak for entire fanbases like you know what anyone but yourself wants I'm still in absolute awe at how much this reeks of a kid trying to get his divorced parents back together Last edited by Chasing; 10-13-2021 at 12:41 AM.. |

Because as long as a foreign TV dramas whether it's Korean, Chinese, Taiwanese, or anything from Europe was able to get mainstream popularity in the US. Then I would have to revive this topic again and again to get toku fans to have a debate about how can we get tokusatsu to get more mainstream in the US in the face of foreign language TV dramas getting a massive fanbase in the US.

If I'm being completely honest, I think I've developed a hatred for K-Dramas and C-Dramas solely because of this thread and out of spite rather than actually just not being into it, and I will never ever give either the chance or time of day now.

but I'm flabbergasted at the mental gymnastics that this guy has tried to go through to convince anyone that he has any justification for his fantasy other than "I'm embarrassed to talk about kamen rider with my friends because it isn't mainstream" boredom's got us down bad |

This whole argument of yours comes off a bit racist as well. Just assuming that because on Asian genre is doing really well, every other one would do well too. By the way, Squid Game is objectively better in every single way, effects and otherwise, than any toku ever made. Just accept that. You really need to get over yourself. We get it, you're ashamed that you like toku. Just grow up and... stop. Last edited by RyusoulRed; 10-13-2021 at 01:00 AM.. |

That feeling of something being really popular and well-liked a majority that it gives the opposite effect on you... K-Dramas (and/or Kpop as well) been large around here for a really long time that I've basically distanced myself real far from it.

So basically, anyone who likes any toku should like all other things with special effects in them. That's... absurd. Because I'm not sure if you're aware of this, there's more to a show's quality than its effects.
By that logic, because I like Kamen Rider, I should love the DC movies. But I don't like the DC movies. It also means that since I like one season of Kamen Rider, I should like every other season of Kamen Rider because they're all effects-heavy. Yet I love Gaim, but absolutely despise Saber. Would you like to address that? |

Why aren't you getting this up and arms about the success of shows like Doctor Who, or the Arrowverse? I'd argue those are much closer to toku than this vague monolith of "k-dramas" that you seem to only be able to name one of.
Very cheesy special effects, costume designs, and general atmosphere, (with of course standouts to this), with a moderately large to huge following. I imagine they are the closest to toku getting mainstream wester success. And it all comes back to the question of who cares? You seem to clearly be alone here in caring this much. As I've said, I'd love it to gain some form of following just to make it and merch a little more accessible, but I'm not going to be unrealistic and ask it to be the next Squid Game or whatever huge Netflix original you are obsessed with it becoming. Toku, by it's very nature, is silly. You can dress it up in tons of different ways, fill it with gore, give it a well written story...but at the end of the day it still comes back to people in rubber or spandex suits hitting each other. And that is simply too silly for a wide stream western audience. And that's okay. |
