What's the first Garo series called? I looked up Garo episode 1 on youtube and found a bunch of series with different Japanese words after it, so I'm presuming they're the sequels.

GARO still frustrated me in a lot of ways though, mostly in how poorly it managed its time. A lot of toku seems stretched even after the first twenty episodes, let alone trying to fill fifty, so I was hoping with GARO being only twenty five episodes it would be much more streamlined and focused. That seemed to be the case, but then in the last three or so episodes they totally fucked it up as a revolving door of villains without motivation or purpose kept popping up, being swiftly offed and replaced by someone else.
There's also the bonus episode from the DVD, "Smile." It's a weird little 23 minutes of randomness, but there are some nice Kaoru moments in there. And Kodama's one speaking part always amuses me. |

And the revolving door of villains at the end annoyed me more, because they spent pretty much three whole episodes establishing Barago as the main villain, only for him to be killed after barely doing anything, only to be replaced by two more villains who would also die moments later without achieving anything and also lacked the build up Barago had. That isn't even mentioned Echo and his Momma, who were there for the entire show and were a slowly unwrapping mystery, only to serve absolutely no purpose by the time they died and to never have their motivations revealed.

The standalone horror (as in the genre) episodes were great, I wasn't that hot on the standalone episodes which basically just involved Kouga fighting for twenty minutes. As fun as the action was, these episodes were a waste of time in the long run.
And the revolving door of villains at the end annoyed me more, because they spent pretty much three whole episodes establishing Barago as the main villain, only for him to be killed after barely doing anything, only to be replaced by two more villains who would also die moments later without achieving anything and also lacked the build up Barago had. |

So I just finished the Kiba Gaiden and....meh. It was actually a great film, it added a lot of new and interesting stuff to the mix while also providing better context for Messiah and Kiba (although still nothing for Echo and his Momma) but knowing how little to no impact any of this new stuff has on the show itself, and how crap Barago's story ends, it was hard to care about any of this. Especially as so much of it was told as a cheap motion comic. I hope the other two films are better.
