Zyuohger had a lot more heart and character to them, than at least Gokaiger did.
The Gokaigers were nice and all, but just compare Yamato, who goes through an array of emotions, to Marvelous, who is either stoic, or angry and stoic. It's just, like, Zyuohger was made in a way to endear itself to you. Even if the plot wasn't the greatest moving force, the characters were handled a lot better~ |

I'd argue that round characters are not automatically better than flat characters though. Sure Yamato might show more range and emotions than Marvelous, but Marvelous' characterization was always more subtle in some cases and blunt in other ways. Either way, Marvelous may seem less interesting that Yamato but that's perfectly fine for him as he's the superman who inspires others to do better not the every man who needs to be better. Its more Yamato =/= Marvelous rather than Yamato > Marvelous.
Marvelous is fine as a character, but he never goes from A to B in terms of characterization. The Gokaigers are all just static. Nothing wrong with them as characters as they are fun characters, but they don't really grow or change.

I disagree. Marvelous has plenty of characterization, but the key problem is that it's never truly expressed. His relationship to his team never changed. His relationship to Basco never changed. His overall attitude never changed. We always knew that he was a good man with a good heart that hid behind his words of "We're just pirates, not heroes" because his actions always showed it, even early on.

I'm currently re-watching Jetman thanks to shoutfactorytv.com which also has Zyuranger, Dairanger, Kakuranger, Ohranger, Carranger, Megaranger, Gingaman, GoGoFive, Timeranger, and Gaoranger in their entirety. Though, I don't get why the website don't have any of the episodes from Hurricaneger despite the season/series clearly got an official release in the US a few months back like the ones I mentioned did.
EDIT: Never mind. Hurricaneger is indeed available to watch on that site. Last edited by GuardianAngel87; 07-01-2019 at 07:36 PM.. |

Finished re-watching Chojin Sentai Jetman and it is a much better series than I remembered it being the first time I watched it several years back. I'm currently re-watching Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger which is the very first Super Sentai series I watched.

As of today, I am now officially caught up on the episodes I have watched of Kakuranger so far from the last time I saw the series several years back.
It's onward to new territory with the final 16 episodes of the series. Thank you, Shout Factory. |

Almost halfway in Timeranger. The villains are the best part of the show to me. They're basically the mafia; only in it for the money. It's so refreshing to have a villainous force which has no interest in world domination/destruction (which is funny considering how I wasn't even born yet when the show aired).
