This episode was cute, though a bit too... 90s tropey, unfortunately. This type of 'stand up to the bullies' message conveyed in this way just doesn't work.

This reminded me of two separate Sentai episodes. The idea of Ravi training a kid and telling him that such moves are for defense echoes Zyuohger 40.
Having the kid use soundwaves is evocative of Megaranger 10. Commander Shaw's remarks don't ring true at all. She was a little quick to abandon her father's instrument and if she is opposed to "silly distractions", why is the team allowed to have any fun in-between battles? They start the episode playing football. The bullies refer to Ben and Betty as "weirdos", and there are some who might unfortunately agree. Nate and Steel, again, don't interact with the Go-Busters footage, but the reasoning feels slightly more natural. Did they confuse the two Tubaloids from Go-Busters? There were two separate versions, and while the Tubaloids were similar, the Tubazords/Tubadrones were distinctive. "Similar Soundwaves": Ha Ha! Unintentional Decepticon reference! Okay, it's not actually a reference, but still... Didn't hate it, but not where it needed to be. |

I skipped this epusode right away. Sometimes I wonder if I can called a fan of the show when I have a love-hate feelings towards the franchise.

We always hope something will change for the better, but they always seem to get a little worse. I will admit that while Beast Morphers has some potential, it comes off as untapped and mishandled. I know that there is a balancing act between episodic and serialized plots, but this feels like they're taking restrictions and misconceptions regarding kids shows to the level of a bad joke. Nickelodeon is NOT the right place for this franchise. All that said, I will keep going forward with this. No matter what this franchise does wrong, those errors in judgment on the part of the writers, producers, owners, and/or network won't get any better if fans flee en masse. Remember Ron Wasserman's "5-4-1" song from Mighty Morphin: "Keep hope alive"! |
