They're fine, but I'm not really a fan of them simply due to suit design.
That said, the dudes aren't giant beefcakes, which kind of annoys me. Now they decide to become more accurate to what's on screen...Not the legacy line, where they still have impossible muscle detailing, but here. Doesn't really explain the ahem "assets" the female Rangers have but the movie suits have those too. |

Playshool, Happy Meal, Dr. Kain just knockin' it out of the park with the lamebrain, circa 2006 fan complaints. Just can't get enough of those generic knee-jerk descriptors.
But seriously, I think the figures look alright as toys to play with for kids, the problem is the difficult source material. The detail of the movie suits is lost when turned into small plastic form because there's just so much of it at a small scale, and little colour difference over large areas. The figures still look like shit for collectors, but I have a hard time imaging how they couldn't. Quote:
Well, I wouldn't say I'm fine with them, but as a kid I could do way more with 9 points than five points. 5POA figures are basically useless, but at least 9POA/13POA figs can be posed in your hands in semi-convincing ways. They're functional as toys.
If my child self saw these, though, he'd probably be unenthused. I really liked when details were painted or different colours, but I'd play with them for sure. Last edited by Dr Kain; 12-31-2016 at 12:23 AM.. |

Kids today must be easily amused then. Even during the days of MMPR's toys I hated that the diamonds weren't painted on the back, Pink didn't have a skirt, Green didn't have the proper triangles on his gloves and boots, the weapons were just grey instead of accurately colored, and then all of the lighting bolts on the zords instead of how they looked on the show (oh, and of course the lion having a black head instead of green and White Shogunzord being pink). Zedd was the biggest annoyance because not one damn toy looked like he did on the show. Hell, the 8 inch figure had a friggin diaper and they couldn't even get the color of his damn visor right (ON ANY OF THEM!!!). I even tried painting my Zedd unsuccessfully (which he and Galvatron were the reasons I realized I was never meant to be a painter).

I literally never noticed any of those except the lightning bolts, but that didn't even bother me until I started watching Sentai and realized I couldn't really use power rangers toys to replace sentai toys because of it. I think it's more of a you thing than a kids today vs kids back in the day. (note: I'm not saying it's a bad thing, just a thing)

Wow, I know I'm weird, but damn. Was I the only one mad that Galvatron was grey instead of purple? That the bottom of Goldar's feet were not blue on the toys like it was on the show?

I mean, a character being the wrong colour is something I as a kid certainly would've noticed.
But the soles of their Goddamn shoes, no, can't say I was ever that detail oriented growing up. Or rather, I knew there was limits as to what a toy could do. Inconsistent articulation or lack of paint compared to other figures I could understand., but even as a kid I realised toys were never goign to be 100% accurate. |

And even after I saw it I kinda preferred the Pink limb I thought it looked better if you combine the Falconzord with it. |

The only details that ever peeved me was the shogun zord's arm and the lightning bolts everywhere.
The figures didn't have diamonds on the back, but being a sensible child, I noticed that about 90% of my toys didn't have details on the back, so I let that one go rather quickly. For me, there's a difference between miscoloring the white ranger's shield, and missing an innocuous detail like someone's shoe sole coloration

For the Shogun Zord's arm, I was like "woah this one is pink but on tv it's white....cool!" Which is still probably closer to the ends of the scale...just the opposite side from Dr Kain.

I ended up getting the Shogun Megazord for Xmas that year, so his main screen time in MMPR had already passed. In fact, that was a common thing for me with MMPR.
I got the Megazord and Dragonzord for my brithday in June of 94, then like a month later the Thunderzords were introduced. I got Tor in Feb of 95, so his time on the show was pretty much done. I got the Shogun MZ and Titanus for Xmas of 95, so they were done. The only zords I actually got "on time" were the Red Dragon Thunderzord, which I got the Sunday after the third part had aired and I got the Ninja and Falconzord for my bday in June of 95, which was before the movie came out. At least I got six months out of the Thunderzord Assault Team and White Tigerzord since I got those for Xmas that year. After that, I just started going after the 5inch Megazord toys because I was tired of getting the current shows's zords just before the new one launched.
