Yeah the Sky Keys were kind of annoying. They felt like padding and you had to collect them all at the end of the game, unlike the other two Primes where you can acquire the Artifacts/Energy Cells during the game. I always used to consider Prime 2 to be the weakest of the Prime trilogy but I remember it more than I do Prime 3 so I guess it's a mixed bag. Prime 1 is one of my top 3 games of all time.
One game I'm looking forward to this year is Soul Calibur VI. It looks like it might be the best in the series since II came out and the developers are really passionate about it all in spite of the recent controversy surrounding the DLC exclusivity of Tira. I wonder which side of the "Bandai Namco" equation was responsible for that kind of decision? ("Hint: It's probably the former, they've already shown they are willing to mass produce collectibles and then strong arm people with them into buying everything related to it so not surprisingly video game monotisation seems to be going the same way.)

I just finished replaying Devil May Cry 1 and I still think the game holds up pretty well. However, I can admit that the game still has flaws like the bad camera angle and repeating the same bosses. Not to mention the underwater levels are terrible.
One thing that I do love about the game is the gothic horror atmosphere and how creepy the game can feel at times. The movie does remind me of an old spooky haunted house that you would see in old movies (I know Devil May Cry was going to be a Resident Evil 4). Overall, Devil May Cry 1 still holds up and it is still very fun to play. I will probably give it a 7.5/10 or 8/10. Time to revisit Devil May Cry 2 and see if my opinion on the game changes or not. I remember not liking it.

Gone back to Soul Calibur IV to try and progress in the Tower of Souls mode. I'm currently on Floors 36-38 but struggling hard. Trying to beat these guys quickly is proving challenging ESPECIALLY on Floor 38 when the Siegfried at the end shows up. I'm using Kilik but I can't beat the other two enemies fast enough to be able to get enough time to be able to fight Siegfried, not to mention the fact that he is very difficult to hit. I did get very close at one point but doing the whole thing consistently is quite a challenge. You can spam throws against some of the enemies for a quick way to take them out but about half the enemies have abilities that prevent you from grabbing them, so I'm having to try and attack where they're not guarding.
Admittedly my own style of gameplay for fighting games isn't helping much in this regard.

You'll have to scream then, because I didn't mind the Sky Temple Keys! Once you get clues and do a little exploring of areas you didn't before they're not too hard to pick up and some of them have a bit of a puzzle aspect to them. I'm the sort of person who goes back through areas to pick up items I didn't get to before, so the Sky Temple Keys fit right in with that; especially the one next to the Annihilator Beam door in the bottom of Torvus Bog.

*muffled screaming* I feel like they're the worst out of the Prime Mcguffins because Prime 2's areas kind of look alike, a natural problem when you're exploring 1 area and That area but dark. Doesn't help that you need to learn the names of the individual rooms, because someone on the development team thought that would make it immersive I guess. In Prime 1 the locations were all rather memorable in their own way so it made it easier, and in Prime 3 you didn't even need all of the Mcguffins, a welcome thing I hope Prime 4 will include
I will agree on the criticisms with Dark Aether; I wish they'd done more to differentiate it from Aether. Dark Aether's equivalent to the Pirates' Agon HQ being bereft of any living quarters or tech or whatever was an interesting example and I wish they done that more.

I kinda found it fun just writing down the names of the rooms mentioned in the clues then searching through the maps for them. Was pretty interesting imo

I just finished both story modes for Devil May Cry 2. To be honest, I end up enjoying Devil May Cry 2. I used to dislike the game back in the 2000s, but I think the game is a lot of fun. Sure, it is a lot easier than the first game, the AI is not very good and Dante is not the same as he was in the first game. I can't help to like Devil May Cry 2.
What I love about Devil May Cry 2 is the dark, gritty and gothic urban feeling that this game has. I love the vibe that the game is going for being set in a town and a big city. People hate the story in DMC2, but I feel like the story was never the biggest selling point in the series. The story in the first game is just as simple and cheesy as the story in the second game. I did hate the underwater levels in Lucia's story mode because the swimming controls are terrible. Overall, Devil May Cry 2 is not as good as the first, but still enjoyable. Time to finished off the trilogy with Devil May Cry 3. I look forward to revisiting Devil May Cry 3 because it was one of my favorite video games as a teenager in High School and one of my favorite games on the PS2.

Street fighter 5 arcade edition got a price drop to 15 dollars so I decided to pick it up.
This game is pretty fun, i really like it, if I had to complain about something... well 2 things really, the way you unlock stages is needlessly grindy, it takes too long to get 1 stage. And then there's the really expensive DLC COSTUMES. Those are way overpriced, if they came with some extra junk the price would be more understandable but 10 bucks for a fucking Monster Hunter costume pack that only has 3 of them!? No thanks.

Still on Tales of Berseria, and starting Accel World vs SAO, but been itching to try Omega Quintet.
Estival Versus is still my go to combat game though(god that combat engine does everything right about an anime action game), but been throwing in some DOA5 in anticipation of 6, as well as Splatoon and Minecraft randomly(gotta grow my sea base for the transfer to Switch later so the farms are prepped ahead of time). Mostly only PC game, Wii-U game, and NDS or PSP for now. Will broaden out more to other consoles later. Still catching up on a backlog of releases though. |
