Reminds me of Bat Fangire with a slightly different paint job.

The problem with the Digimon story is just that there isn't one that lends it to a movie. Digimon is about the adventure through the strange and surreal Digital World. With only 2 hours, you'd just end up with another one of those lame "Portal to another world" movies like Smurfs or Beastmaster 2.
The more self contained Digimon stories have the problem of relying on the audience already being large enough fans to know what is going on beforehand, such as X-Evolution. However, I am not opposed to the idea of "portal to another world" scenario for Digimon. The difference between that and say Smurfs is Digimon is primarily set in the Digital World and with human children being the "chosen ones" or "digidestineds" thus portals are kinda necessary. At least the use of portals serve a purpose to the narrative and are creative ones at that. The portals used in movies such as Smurfs is they happen to come across it with virtually no explanation, it doesn't exist in the source material, and it serves solely as a plot device to unite the familiar characters with newly created human characters (from "our" world trope) to interact with the established characters because the studio has no faith in those characters carrying a movie on their own. Digimon already has established human characters for the Digimon to interact with and strong enough character development to carry a film. It really just comes down to picking the right story arch to adapt. |

Tamers could work in theory, but part of Tamers' charm comes from properly establishing things first. It's a story that doesn't really adapt to a film properly because they'd have to cut out a good majority of it. A focus on Takato and Guilmon's relationship budding from a kid and his pet to true friends sounds simple, but there's so many small details that it works best as a series simply because it's afforded the time it needs.
Digimon does do a semi decent job at creating completely unique stories for the games, so if they build a story from the ground up exclusively for a film, rather than adapting anything specific, there is the possibility for it to work well with the time it has.

Could do a live action series of Tamers, however just about every season of Digimon lends itself out to a trilogy of films. Tamers a perfect example. It has the Chinese Zodiac arc, the Digital World arc, and the Lovecraft-inspired arc. The Chinese Zodiac arc can serve as character development for the main heroes while being a contained enough story by expelling the threat from Earth, but leaving the door open to a sequel that takes place in the Digital World. It's all laid out like a film trilogy already. The filler just needs to be cut out and some plot points reworked. |

Apparently there's a Crowdfunding campaign being launched to produce a Digimon Memorial mini-series.

If it were literally any other series but Adventure, I'd be interested.

I know I mentioned this in another thread, but I feel a more proper statement belongs here.
Michael Lindsay, the English dub voice actor for Joe Kido and Greymon passed away over the weekend. Aside from Digimon he also voiced Kankuro in Naruto, Kisuke Urahara in Bleach, and many other characters. He retired from voice acting back in 2012. Fellow voice actor Joshua Seth (Tai from Digimon) made a statement regarding the death of his coworker. See link below. https://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-ne...ay-passes-away |
