The winds have changed ... Ninja Storm, Ranger Form, HA!
Continuing the look at the Power Rangers Super Megaforce 5" figures we bring you the Red Ranger from one of the more debated series in the fandom in terms of "good season" or "bad season" - the Red Wind Ranger from Power Rangers Ninja Storm! I've been pleasantly surprised thus far with the figures I've looked at in the 5" figure line. As a S.H. Figuarts collector it isn't easy to go back to these more basic figures and not draw criticisms but the line in general has impressed me with great sculpting on both the figures and the accessories. And that's why I can't help but feel disappointed with the Red Wind Ranger figure. The figure itself is exactly the same as the other 5" figures in terms of the body - the only changes being the obvious changes that you see from every figure (boots, gloves, belts, etc.). There's no real need to dive in to that except I will say that when compared to the S.H. Figuart of the Red Wind Ranger the muscular, arched back feels WAY out of place, more so than the other figures. As for accessories ... very disappointed. The only accessory this figure comes with is the Ninja Sword, and the sculpting detail is minor at best. The wind morpher on his wrist has some nice detail, as does the crest on the helmet, but that's not enough to make up for the fact he comes with only a sword. The good news is the sword is small enough that you won't face too much bendy plastic in your future - but don't misinterpret what I'm saying because the sword is still made of bendy soft plastic. The biggest mistake I did was putting him next to his S.H. Figuart version and then literally quitting the photo shoot as I lost all desire to continue shooting or to have them doing fun poses because, well, the 5" figures can't really do fun poses (you have to get REALLY creative). He can't grab his sword while it's attached to his back like in the show, and a super bulky muscular ninja in cool flying kick poses just didn't feel right (or look right for that matter). So let's get this over with. THE GOOD!
THE BAD!
THE OVERALL CONCLUSION! I want to make it important to note - I know this figure isn't made for me. As an adult collector these toys are not meant to be made for me other than to put in a display case at best. And if you have young kids, this is a great figure to have them play with because it's incredibly simple and the power of imagination can make him an even better ninja than he was in the show. But if you're an adult collector, for an extra $10.88 you can buy the S.H. Figuart on Amazon.com. I'm not even kidding - I looked it up while I wrote this review and it's only $20.88. If you're over the age of 8, find a way to get the S.H. Figuart version. If you're 8 years old or younger or you have young kids, this toy is a very simple way to give them a Power Rangers figure that they can slam in to other figures, walls, your furniture, their siblings, and pets.

You have a cat?
I really wish muscleman toys tested poorly. |

This figure is TOO basic. The other figures that were released in this wave and the next wave made up for the basic feeling with cool accessories and stellar paint jobs.
This figure doesn't get much paint on it and it comes with the basic of basic swords. I couldn't get in to the figure at all when I was shooting it (I think it shows, I consider this my worst gallery of all the galleries I've done) but hey, now it's here for documentation purposes.

That's the one thing that I don't like about some of these figures, they don't come with their actual main weapons.
Zeo Red doesn't have his main sword Turbo Red doesn't either NS Red doesn't have the Hawk Blaster Samurai Red doesn't have the Fire Smasher(Thankfully the Samurai Toyline wasn't too long ago) Titanium Ranger doesn't have the blaster mode of his axe, yet Robo Knight gets both versions of his weapon. Heck they literally crapped on the Ninja Storm figures of this line weapon-wise. Samurai Green only has the freaking baseball bat as his weapon >_> |
