A month or so ago I found the 1st translated volume of the recent ULTRAMAN manga at my local Barnes and Nobles. I thought it was okay but predictable. Art is decent. Designs are cool, I dig the modernized, yet recognizable look. Far too often these days when we hear modernized, it usually means "nothing like the original".
Anyways the way the story is going, it seems like the typical "coming of age, boy has to surpass his father with a heroic lineage since he has potential while his father is a relic of the past" kind of thing. Not saying that's a bad thing, but you kind of see it coming after the 1st chapter. So who's reading it? Any of you like it? I like the covers.

I like the manga. it seems to have a lot of affection for the original show.

I read the first volume a while back when I was killing time at B&N. It was alright. I'd probably read it if I happened across the future volumes at a library or bookstore. I just wouldn't buy it until it was done or if I grew to like it enough to start shelling out for the volumes.

I've been meaning to pick it up at some point, but I haven't gotten around to it.

I think I read it in less than an hour. Art was decent, story didn't seem too surprising. Good intro to Ultraman for new readers/fans but don't expect a shocking premise.

It was fun, but it seemed closer to something like Rider or Metal Heroes than Ultraman. No giant monster battles or anything. I also sometimes couldn't tell what was going on until I read/looked at it again. Still, I enjoyed it and am interested in reading more.
