Well, we've had all our favorite told, now it's time for you to let us know who was the worst Kamen Rider Villain.
Showa: Heisei (Kuuga-Decade): "Neo-Heisei" (W-Wizard/Onwards): Just post your thoughts here. REMEMBER, THIS IS JUST TO STATE WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT A KAMEN RIDER VILLAIN. DEBATING IS FAIR, JUST DON'T MAKE IT PERSONAL. THANK YOU.

From W to Wizard I'd say Medusa just because she was so goddamn boring.
Not really sure about the others, I've only seen Amazon, Ryuki and Decade at the moment so can't really comment.

I don't know enough Showa, unfortunately...
For Heisei, the worst villain, hands down, is Kai. Showed up during the last 5th of the series with only one line prior to alluding to him, having no real goals beyond being blatantly evil, with a lame gimmick being portrayed by an actor who clearly didn't want to be doing it. For Neo-Heisei, as much as I want to say Medusa, I have to say that, honestly, it's Sagittarius, from Fourze. He had a plan that he didn't have a clue would work, his motivations were odd, and as a whole, his character was just dull. His followers were mindlessly motivated by him, despite having no reason to be so loyal, and his defeat, while keeping in tone with Fourze, was anticlimactic to say the least.

My vote would be Saggitarius Zodiarts. Now, there's a reason for this. Through the entire series they kept building, and building, to the moment he would press that button that reveal his Zodiart... And what we got was.. whatever the heck that is. Maybe it was my expectations that were to high but I just expected more. So much more. Now Kuuga to Decade? My vote would have to go to every villian in Decade simply because he didn't really have his own villian set. He stole them from everyone else and the show might've worked better if he had one. |

Kamen Rider Kuuga through Kamen Rider Decade: Spider Fangire. Need I say more?
Kamen Rider W through Kamen Rider Wizard: Nasca Dopant. Now let me explain. A villain is an agent of evil. Kirihiko was never really evil. He was more like a noble drug-dealer—giving out his product because that's what his higher-ups wanted. However, he had morals and guidelines—he would never give out Gaia Memories to children, and only to adults who wanted them. He was a good-hearted man doing evil things, and in the end, he repented. He wasn't a villain by nature—he was just on the villainous side. So, compared to everyone else, he is the worst villain, because he never was a villain. Although I did hate Weather. A lot. |

Being redeemable doesn't make the villainous character a bad villain.
That makes it seem like the only "Good" villains are the ones who are complete monsters with no regret towards their actions.

I'm looking at it from a functional perspective. There are plenty of villains with redeemable qualities who are effective as villains while still remaining evil, or at least have their evil acts outweigh the goodness in their hearts. Kirihiko was never really evil.

For the Showa era, I have to go with Archbishop Wing from V3. Like his predecessor, Baron Fang, he was only around for six episodes. But while Baron Fang had a great design and was highly memorable for his creepy voodoo theme (and random tuxedo), all Archbishop Wing had going for him was a bunch of episodes with recycled plots from the original series. His design was bland, his character wasn't memorable, and he really did nothing but keep the Destron general seat warm until Marshall Armor showed up.
For classic Heisei, I have to go with Kai, too. His goals are incredibly vague, he spends more time making funny faces than doing anything, and he never really felt like he actually belonged on the show. I suppose the Imagin needed a leader, but they didn't deserve this useless nutjob. For Neo-Heisei I'm actually having a hard time picking between Maki and Gamou. As I've always maintained, Doctor Maki is not a credible threat. Yes, he's sick and twisted; yes, he has very dark ambitions; but I just can't take the man seriously when any time his little doll falls over he starts rolling around on the ground and having fits. Gamou is at least more serious, but what he makes up for in demeanor he seriously lacks in motivation. Gamou spends the entire series sitting in a chair and trying to gather the Horoscopes. Why? Well, for most of the series we don't know - there's no clear endgame for him until the last couple of episodes, and that involves an incredible ass-pull that comes right out of nowhere and never really makes much sense. Compare that to Wiseman on Wizard; his true goals are cloaked for most of the show, too, but now that things are coming to a head all of his actions are starting to make sense and you can go back and see precisely what he was doing and how it affected what happened. I guess I have to go with Gamou. Maki may have been ridiculous, but at least there were some good ideas underneath the stupid exterior. |
