So I'm looking at the MMPR 2010 toyline and the PR Samurai toyline... and I'm wondering why we have so few villains! The Samurai line only has Xandread, Deker, Moogers, and ... Rita Repulsa.
But they have a new monster every week, but none represented in plastic! Why is this? The original MMPR toyline had a line of Action Feature Evil Space Aliens and a bunch of larger scaled monsters that appeared on the show. Is this because unlike later series, the MMPR monsters reappeared regularly for occasions (like Zedd and Rita's wedding)? Or is it perhaps too costly? I like variety, but we have at least three versions of all the rangers and it seems ridiculous when you see nothing but Rangers filling up the pegs with the occasional villain. I just find this odd, but not enough to make me hate the Power Rangers toyline in general. :P |

Yeah, they're just kind of stuck in a rut, like girls. Power Rangers is aimed mostly at young boys, who simply want to buy the male heroes. That's at least the general rule, which is why the males get all of the attention and good toys, while the girls and villains are given less attention. There are less toys of the villains and girls for kids to buy, and even then, they're usually of pretty low quality like Rita. So, they clog shelves and get even less attention. Or they get shortpacked like Deker and Xandred.

Monsters of the day haven't had toys in well over a decade (I think either Zeo or In Space was the last one). We're lucky if they make the main villian and the dumb troops each year. Beyond that is just not happening in this day and age.

Unless it's the big bad (Who still barely sells), villains never sell well.
Kids aren't collectors with an income. They're younguns with a limited allowance.
