LuPat is more what you get out of it, as the Lupins get more focus than the Pats! The disproportionate Mecha numbers between them is evidence of that alone! The villains are still in the marginally acceptable category. I'm not saying that either is terrible, but neither is what they could've been. Modern Sentai gives Villains and Mecha a lot of "hats", but the writers seem to struggle to find that one "magic hat of success", much less reveal the rabbit inside! |

The nechas are boring, i was expecting mechas with more Gingaman/Gaoranger approach.

I've been giving Zyuohger more of a thought recently and I'm realising it's easily one of my favourite Sentai, possibly above Gokaiger. Fun cast, wonderful Red, fantastic villains, a downright incredible 6th debut arc, and just all around a great tribute to Sentai by celebrating what it's about rather than getting bogged down in references. Just genuinely great.
Kyuranger has many fantastic points, but for me the Red was so bad he brought the whole show down for me; especially in how he "develops". I actually dislike him more than Takaharu. Still, the space opera and the villains being in charge make for a great change of pace from Sentai's usual fare, and you get some great standout characters in Champ, Stinger, Tsurugi and Shou Ronpo. I'd say it's worth a watch. Lupinranger vs Patranger is a show consistently underlined by its lost potential in how its premise boasted of being different but ultimately just fell into the same old Sentai formula, and there's some particularly annoying toy-related stuff near the end; but look past that and it's pretty nice. It's very much about its characters more than anything and if you come into it from that angle you'll find a lot to enjoy. Ryusoulger I admittedly have not yet seen the final two episodes of, but having watched the rest of the series I'm gonna be this forum's sole defender of the show and say it's pretty great. Perhaps not one of my favourites but it's a bit of a reverse of Lupat: for a show that from its premise looked to be a big repeat for more than one reason, it actually ends up doing a lot of different things. Sure, you've got an Energetic Red once again, but he's not only a lot more reserved than others but he has a fair few layers to him. Yeah it's dinosaurs again, but that's window dressing really to a story that has very little to do with dinosaurs overall. The make-my-monster-grow formula is shaken up, your cast of villains is by and large quite likeable as are your rangers, and there's a lot of surprising twists along the way. There's a lot of points it frustrated me, but at the end of the day I have more positives to say about Ryusoulger than negatives.

Due to Ninja Storm being 38 weeks I started Hurricane Ranger yesterday on DVD.
I'm also 20 in on the pirate series which became Super Mega Force. Mystic Force - RPM were each 32 weeks so I wanted to see their source shows. I have yet to finish Magi (Magician) Ranger and the one after but did see the next 2 after that. I also need to finish the 3 after Hurricane Ranger. I was going to wait for Shout to release them. |

Due to Jungle Fury and RPM being 32 weeks each it was good to see the source shows for both of them.
I watch the Toei shows for the full story. It was good to see the source for Mega Force Part 1 as they were 20 weeks for each series which you lose a lot of story. Watched 19 episodes of the Pirate series for that reason. The Mega Force Part 1 half could have gotten a full 40 had the 20th not gotten in the way and they were forced to ram the pirate series into the back 20. That was a waste. Dino Charge and Ninja Steel both went 40 weeks for 2 series which is what you need for a full story adaption. Beast Morphers also got a full 40. (Back 20 are airing on Nick) I was interested in the Jetix era as 4 of them were 32 weeks through RPM. I'm a full story kind of guy honestly. |

The show makes it blatantly clear that it's really only about Lupinranger by the halfway mark. This is a big issue since it sells itself on it's creative premise, then abandons it entirely. Quote:

I mean, in terms of marketing, yeah, I guess that's important, but it's like complaining that a Kamen Rider's bike doesn't look cool. It's only just a small part of a larger whole. Quote:

When his catchphrase is uttered on a per-minute basis, occasionally reaching the double digits per episode, it leads to a series that I never wanted to finish. Even though he does under go development, just the fact that I had even considered watching it without sound is a problem. And yeah. LuPat is kind of the epitome of disappointment. What could have been a great back and forth just turned into Lupinrangers making the Patrangers look like shit. Not helped by the worst 6th ranger ever. Noel, his shit eating grin, and his sabotaging the Patrangers just made the series even more unbalanced than it needed to be.

Currently watching Mega Ranger as somebody who adapted Power Rangers In Space said it was gutted to the core. Also Ginga (Galaxy) Man. In a few weeks likely Go Go 5 on DVD.
