He’s also been asking for donation’s from fans, and blocking people who refuse. He apologised on Instagram the other day. |

Oh. While we're on the topic, how do you get YouTube embeds to show up?! I've seen a blank space come up a lot recently!

Sad. This won't change my stance on Kamen Rider Black being one of my favorite riders but sucks this is a thing. Honestly I can't even say I am mad cause people change and I guess Mr. Kurata is at a point where he is tired of it or was since who knows when and is tired of hiding it. Again, sad.

eh its been over 30 years since Black and RX. Toei gets to celebrate and use him as a character in movies forever with or without his consent. If he wants to leave it behind, he should be free to do so. I would feel bad if he's not receiving some sort of royalty whenever Toei makes a reference or reproduces his character.
With the advent of advanced CGI, we're starting to see more and more wholesale actor-stand-ins like ****** from the Mandalorian, which really raises the question of whether an actor owns their own face/likeness. Kamen Riders being masked heroes makes it easy for them to appear in future movies and media, but it also means the actors who portrayed them have less say in how they are used. When we project our emotions onto the actors who play a fictional character, we are lowering their autonomy as individuals. Kohtaro Minami is my favorite Showa Rider both in suit and out, and his remarks let me reflect on his experience as such an iconic character, but they don't change how I feel about the character or show.

Why would they? They haven’t with past Rider controversies, such as Super-1, Duke, Kabuki or Gills.
I guess it’s slightly different than most of them, because money is involved, but Super-1’s situation is basically identical, and I don’t believe they ever acknowledged that publicly. |

I can't understand why Kurata would say those things. You'd think he'd know that every time one of their former toku actors has tried to exploit fans for money that Toei immediately blacklists them.
These comments also read as someone who's bitter that his acting career didn't really take off after Black RX ended. And yeah that sucks, but let's be honest: Tetsuo Kurata was never a really good actor. He definitely had the charisma and physicality to play a Kamen Rider but his dramatic chops were seriously weak. Unfortunately, he's pretty much ensured he's never being asked to reprise his role or have a guest spot in a Toei production again. |
