Yeah, it's always like this at first. I still remember trying to figure out Synchros when 5D's started and when Exceed was being discussed, so I guess I'm kind of inured to this kind of thing.
I guess the simplest way to explain it as just another part of "properly" summoning those monster types. Once you've summoned them to said zone, they act like any other monster, but they HAVE to be summoned to a Linked zone first. Still, as I predicted, Konami did something completely different from what everyone was expecting. It's just what they do, really. |

It's a method to slow down the game.

Sounds good to me I'm glad they're slowing it down a bit

so from my understanding, in order to have more then one extra deck monster on the field you have to have summoned at least one link monster, doesn't that mean a lot of decks are going to have to be reworked?

That seems to be the gist of it.
And most decks don't need to be reworked too extensively. Link Monsters are also extra deck monsters with simple(ish) summoning conditions.

I think I may have to stop playing lunalights then because that's sort of dependent on having multiple fusions on the field at once. Also fluffals are kind of screw over now since those are also dependent on swarming the field with fusions.

Well, Fluffal OTK may have taken a hit, but since most Fluffals are Earth monsters, they can totally play Missus Radiant for the two slots they need for Tiger and Wolf. Sabre-tooth doesn't really care, since it summons from the graveyard, it can totally just slap Tiger in the back row without any concern.

so wait you can use the special summon ability of some cards, and have to special summon cards to their appropriate fields? I.E you don't have to summon tiger into an extra deck zone if summoned by sabre-tooth's effect?
edit: also what link summon would you recommend for my lunalights deck?

It's only when they're first summoned from the extra deck that they have to go to a Linked zone. After that they're like every other monster.
No idea on Links for Lunalights, they've only unveiled like 4 so far and none of them really jump out as a good option. I'd just wait to see if they make a retrain of Witch's Apprentice and grab that, assuming they have the same Links. Of course, Lunalights aren't really about spamming multiple fusions as they are just building their kind of nuts boss monsters. You probably could get away with just the one decently enough, especially considering everyone else is also getting slowed down by this. |
