When I was younger there used to be ads for toys all the time. Nowadays I never see a single ad for Power Rangers toys, I never know when an item will be released. They just randomly show up in the store and you just got to hope your lucky enough to find it. For example, my local Toys-r-us, Target's, and Walmart's carry only the Legendary megazord. Toys-r-us and the two local Target's carry (occasionally) the SPD and Mystic Dragon zord vehicles (I was lucky to find a Zeo vehicle hidden at Toys-r-us one time). And one Target carried the Q-Rex megazord for only a short period of time (like less than a month, haven't seen it since). All local K-marts, Sears, and Big Lots only carry figures, no zords at all. And a small family owned toy store here only sells Power Rangers/Super Sentai zords/mechas seasonally (X-mas). All other zord purchases I had to make out of town or online. I had to go two towns north to get my Turbo Falcon Megazord (at a Target), and three towns north for any Nippon releases (at a Toys-r-us). My local Toys-r-us does not sell Nippon editions, fortunately the one three towns over had one of the Gosei Great Megazord. Why is the marketing so crappy lately?

I don't think you see many ads today because, honestly, the internet is kinda taking over television.

It doesn't matter what the medium: film, TV, internet, magazines, etc. You have to market your material, and Bandai America sucks at marketing lately.

I see ads on tv for MF and SMF every now and then. Not as often as Transformer or Marvel ads but they're still there. I generally watch a lot of Cartoon Network and sometimes stuff on Saturday mornings.

There are still ads, they're just more targeted now. They show them in front of certain Hulu shows, before certain Youtube videos, on websites. And during the shows themselves. With how everything is these days you don't need a blitz campaign on television anymore.

Mom groups actually succeeded back in the 90's with passing a law that states that you can't run an ad selling a toy during a television show marketed at selling toys to kids (ie: No Transformers toy commercials during Transformers shows).
While some slip through the cracks, that's why you don't see many toy commercials anymore - if you can't air them during the shows kids watch (which are usually made to SELL TOYS anyways, what's the point?

But if the show was already designed to sell toys from the outset, why should you need commercials anyway? You're already airing what's essentially a half hour commercial for you product as is. That seems pretty fair to me.

The shows don't have the space for that urgent "Buy Now!" message that commercials can push really easily. They can show all the new toys, but they can't tell you that it's available at your local Toys R Us.

The shows don't tell you when or where to buy them. Maybe there might be some commercials still (I never see them though), however that doesn't explain as to why there is no set date for the release of specific toys and why some stores within the same chain sell it and some don't. And no explanation as to why not all of them are available online.
