That should really be a picture of Kaito and his dad or something up there, but I simply refuse to close out the year with anyone other than Magine, okay? It's like a Christmas present I'm giving to myself! (And if the Twitter account for Zenkaiger is any indication, pictures of Magine are a pretty in-demand gift!) If I might attempt to connect my choice of screencap to an actual thought about the episode, I will say, I appreciate the way Cutanner and Ricky always seem to be hanging around in scenes lately? I don't know how much factual basis there is for this, but it feels like somewhere along the line, the show started using the physical props for them way more often, and it's become part of the fun of each episode to see where those two will be whimsically integrated into whatever shots that particular week. Such as in this week, where they're helping out Flint as she fires off shots at mooks. Maybe it's always been this way and it's just taken me this long to notice, but yeah, I've grown to like these two goofballs. I mean really, with why I chose it, it probably says something that I even registered Cutanner's presence in that picture at all, right? There's also a really nice story about Kaito's dad in here, by the way! Right from the opening montage establishing how insatiable his curiosity is, Isao fits into the group dynamic extremely well. He's as fun as everyone else, and making the audience like him as a character makes the connection between him and Kaito that much more palpable. A lot of this episode is dominated by a typically insane weekly plot where a monster makes people act weird(er than usual), but it's balanced out by a surprising amount of slower, more thoughtful moments, which really elevates it. It's even sort of contextualized visually in a neat way, where during Kaito and Isao's whole heartfelt conversation about friends and all that, the wacky antics of everyone making noodles are literally slowed down and emphasized like a dramatic moment would be. This one was directed by Ryuuta Tasaki, and as is usually the case for him, there are plenty of slick touches like this that convey what's going on super clearly. And while the emotional core here is the thing I want to highlight, it should still go without saying that the usual insanity is as charming as ever. Kaito's genius plan to turn everyone against the monster was just about the most amusing possible way to demonstrate his qualities as a leader, they *STILL* haven't run out of different ways to do the roll call, and the giant-sized stuff kept the comedic momentum going especially well. (I also found it funny when they blatantly filmed the robots separating by just pulling apart the toys, which comes off like it was done as a deliberately tongue-in-cheek bit of budget-saving camp.) Plus, on top of all this, there's some advancement going on with the main villains in the background, which is neat. I definitely didn't expect to see Ijirude getting straight up tortured, but on top of somehow not feeling incongruous tonally, it reminds you that these really are *bad* guys, underscoring how much Stacey really needs to get the heck out of that environment as soon as he can. It's good to know Kaito is still thinking of him, because with Hakaiser gone, there's not a lot of people left who are!

Gotta side with Kaito. Always been more of a ramen fan. Though, if I had to pick between the main options, I prefer soba over udon.
Anyway, I loved just how out there this episode's climax was. From using the Jetman gear to create Yellow Owl chucking a tomato, to the noodle themed role call, to the mecha splitting apart by literally pulling the toys apart, to them beating Noodle World by channelling the love of the noodles he forced them to love. I live for this Isao also cooking and eating the noodles left behind just got me, dunno why. Seemed so out of nowhere, and I love it The more serious plot was also quite nice. While Zyuran does bring up a good point, Kaito is 21, so the father-son bonding time really is far more difficult to pull off. I do wish we got more Isao before he left in his reality hopping minivan, since he bounced off the team quite well, and his moments with Kaito were quite nice. Shame he doesn't remember Stacey, though. Speaking of, if they kill Stacey I'mma riot.

Something you all may not know about me is that I'm something of a noodle expert.
So this episode is A+. I feel very seen. What are some other noodle focused sentai episodes?

Off the top of my head, I can only recall a Jetman episode featuring a cup noodle monster. I think Yellow Owl was the star of that episode too, so I wonder if the gear being used in this episode was a reference to that!

Haha that is the only other episode I know as well! And one of the reasons Yellow Owl is one of my all time favorite characters.

Actually, It was a Blue Swan episode, it's the one where her friend comes back and tries to create the best cup noodle.

Here we are at the last batch of episodes of Zenkaiger this year! And boy were they not some good ones.
Hakaiju-Oh is officially my favorite Mech this year, whose design I could probably spend all day gushing about. But everything else about this episode was brilliant! It's kind of neat seeing the aftermath of a Mech battle in Sentai where the city is in ruins and there are people scrounging around the debris, and battle against Hakaiser with the Zenkaigers reviewing his entire life up to that point was such a great moment, which culminates in that beautiful reunion between Isao and Kaito. And boy did I not have the greatest treat seeing Zenkaiju-Oh vs Hakaiju-Oh. Now for the real New Year's special, I've only ever had Udon, so I guess that's where I stand on that front (though I do really like pasta). But anyway, this episode was great, from Zox continuing his obsession with Manga, the many Noodles and how people get into fights specifically for them, and Kaito (after proudly proclaiming to be a Ramen fan) uniting everyone against Noodle World (who looks a lot like Hedorah) by turning him into Pasta World, then ultimately the villain gets foiled by making everyone into just about every noodle type in existence, resulting in his downfall. This episode was just what I was hoping for with Zenkaiger for the end of the year. Isao seems to still need charge, which is a little sad, and now heads off to parallel worlds in search for Mitsuko, whilst leaving the DonBrothers gear with Kaito. Next Episode: Warm blankies and Peach Boy Red! |

I'm pretty sure you mean Blue Swallow, since Swan is White and not in focus in that episode. However, Yellow Owl was still a great source of comedy, being the only Jetman to fall under the spell of Noodle Dimension's Ako-chan noodles. But yeah, I think it's the most memorable non-Inoue Jetman episode for sure!
