Funny enough in next week's episode, the Kikainoid's SD forms remind me of FF7's polygon models.

Leave it to a group of heroes who only ever look forward to figure out when the best way to press ahead is to start moving backwards. And leave it to Koumura and the rest to still be doing such insanely creative (and just plain insane!) plot gimmicks even when the show is this close to the end. You might think Gege doing whatever it is he's doing with Stacey would be more than enough of a driving force for a whole episode, but Zenkaiger apparently really just can't be satisfied being that pedestrian. Not that the overarching plot stuff isn't great in its own right, of course. One of the many magic things about Zenkaiger is how it can deliberately downplay the bigger story threads without really diminishing them in the process, and thus the monster of the week being so fun is more of a particularly huge bonus than anything. A supplement to an episode that would convey the narrative just as well with any random monster slotted in. Stacey's actor does a fantastic job here playing such a completely different character, which makes him great to watch, and it's a nice show of how perceptive Kaito is that he's immediately skeptical of the change in attitude. Again, Zenkaiger is a way smarter show than it might look like on the surface, and it knows well enough to show a similar balance with its protagonists. Not that the solutions to problems the team comes up with are dumb? I mean, these guys are silly, sure, but it's also sort of remarkable how quickly and effectively they keep breaking down all these evil schemes. Imagine some gruff, serious team of heroes in a similar story, probably training super hard for like a whole day until they can endure the wind with raw heroic willpower or something, and then imagine how embarrassed they would feel seeing these five goofballs figure out how to completely cheat the system in a fraction of the time. I know this is a show that basically exists to say (and prove!) that being weird works, but man, it works *super* well for this team. I guess none of this is any big revelation, but something about this episode really got me thinking all over again about just how frustrating it must be as an evil conqueror to have the Zenkaigers, of all people, be the thing single-handedly keeping you from dominating every world in existence. Beyond that, there's a smattering of random things I also liked too that I'll give a quick mention. For one, just that Stacey is back to his first outfit here, which I think is meant to further sell how off everything about him is right now. Secchan's wounded pride at failing Sentai trivia was fantastic. And also, it's always nice to see Twokai-Oh in any capacity! (I also loved the twist on the roll call, if it needs mentioning, but that's a phrase I've lost track of how many times I've already said in the past year.)

I know it's not the next episode, but I hope they do acknowledge the fact on how the Zox family helped Kaito to get his family back, while in return, the Zenkaigers are helping and returning the favor full power non-stop, because when I think of that, It feels unsatisfactory that the Zox's family issue is reduced to a MOTW episode.
