Another Saturday afternoon and the Rangers found themselves training once again. Mia and Emily beneath the shade of the deck, practicing their brush strokes against canvas in creating their symbols. Kevin and Mike stood within the center of the training ground doing another spar against one another. Sharing jabs of their Kendo Sticks, and becoming better should another Nighlok attack. While Jayden watched them all with pride from Master Ji’s side in the doorway of their home. And Antonio packed inside for another afternoon of fishing by the seaside.
It was so idealic, and so pathetic in her mind. Was it any wonder the Sanzu River was seeping into the mortal realm so freely? Spending their time practicing, focusing their attentions on defense instead if offense by hunting the Nighlok down where they lived, and helping the pathetic people who fell for their lies. Because of them she was needed. Because of them she had no choice but to return from exile and handle the situation herself. So much into their own attentions they weren’t prepared for what happened next. The quick succession of slashed from her spinsword against their front gate, hurtling chunks of exploding old wood into the once pristine garden. The Rangers, so convinced their home could never be violated, weren’t prepared for the explosion at the gate of their home. Mike and Kevin blocked some of the larger chunks with their swords, of course. But were soon overwhelmed. Emily and Mia both dove for the entrance of their home, right behind Master Ji and Jayden. Who used symbol power to protect their home from harm. But even they were pelted by the larger chunks of their gate. From beneath the rubble a few coughs rang out, and a deep grunt before Jayden pushed the large chunk of wood from off himself and Emily. “Is everyone alright?” Emily gave a faint nod, her ears still ringing from the knock she took. Kevin and Mike both called out they were fine and Master Ji had hold of Mia, helping her up having took a nasty blow against her ankle. “Antonio?” On cue the fisherman emerged from the building, leaning against the doorframe holding his head. “Fantastico, Jayden. Took a nasty bump but I’ll live.” “Of course you will live.” They all turned towards the voice which rang out from within the smoking remains of their home’s front gate. “If I wished you destroyed, believe, you would be so, Boy.” One foot placed before the other she walked through the smoke, revealing herself beneath the beaming sun above. And she looked like… “… Another Ranger?!” Mike stealing the words right from everyone else. She was another Ranger. Standing six foot she stood with one hand wrapped around the handle of her sword, aiming the blade tip towards Master Ji’s heart. As though one movement would send her next attack towards him directly. Her uniform though was so much different. Stately black from head to toe, with white trimming around her boots and gloves. As though a negative image of the rangers themselves. And her helmet had no symbol, just a single down turned visor making her look forever angry. “Master Ji?” Jayden turned towards him, confused how there could be another Ranger, but their mentor looked dumbfounded. As though he had just seen a very real ghost. “But you were in exile, you swore on your blade never to return.” They could not see but beneath her helmet she smiled. “Unless you had failed your mission. And you have, my old Sensei. You have failed. The Sanzu River rises into this world, the City cries in sorrow from constant assaults, and your Rangers.. Are not fulfilling their duty.” “Who is she to..” Master Ji rose his hand, silencing Mike’s protest before turning his attention back towards the mysterious woman. This Samurai Black. “You have no right.” Scoffing she gave a long humorless laugh, and sheathed her blade moments before her arms came to fold against her chest. “No right? You forced the right upon me when they failed! Now.. Will you surrender them willingly?” All of the rangers look towards their Master, confused as to what she could be speaking of. Untill the moment she rose her right hand and revealed she to carried a Folding Zord. The black design was exactly like Jayden’s Lion, though completely blank with more white trim. “Call them my Bat.” The small creature’s wings spread revealing the outer shell were it’s wings wrapped around itself, spread wide now to almost three foot. And the call it gave moved through them all. Making them cry out as their ears rang from the intense screech, and then watched helpless as their own Zords flew from within the house. Flying circles around the woman. Landing upon her hand and shoulders as though returning to an old friend. And just as quick, the Zord closed again and all disappeared through the opening of their destroyed gate. “I, Samurai Black, will defend this city. I will Destroy the Nighlok and Master Zandred, and you.. Should you be idiotic enough to attempt and stop me. You have had your turn, Children.. And now it has become mine!” |

Part 2
Smoke rose from the high rise. Pouring out of the windows like water, and drawing into the skies above. Inside the glass walls Nighlok moved floor by floor scaring humans and destroying anything not nailed to the floor, and some things that were. At least they were as the Rangers arrived. Morphed and slicing through what little resistance they found they came across the same thing they came across at twelve of the last gap sensor locations. Piles of destroyed Nighlok, destruction every direction, and Samurai Black standing in the middle. Untouched and sword drawn. And as with every other time when they arrived she simply turned and left. Kevin slammed his fist into the near by wall, showing a rare bout of raw emotion. But they were all feeling the same. Frustrated. “We have to, Jayden.” Jayden turned towards Samurai Blue, and lowered his head. Taking one last look at the destruction around them. “Do you really think he knows who she is?” Mike scoffed and waved his hand off towards where she departed. “He has to! You heard how she talked when she stole our Zords, she knew all about us!” Turning himself from the chaos Jayden shook his head, and sheathed his blade. Before turning himself back towards his team. His friends. “We have no choice. We need answers, and they’ll come later. For now these people need our help. Kevin’ll take this floor, Mike’ll take the next, Emily and Mia will take the stairwells and help people trying to escape from the upper floors. I’ll head down and make sure everyone finds help once they’re clear. Move Rangers!” The Shiba House continued to recover after the surprise assault on their gate. Volunteers from the Temple had arrived, rebuilding and replacing the gate and wards which protected them. Inside the feelings swirling around the room were just as chaotic as the scene outside. All the rangers gathered around the main room, watching the map spread out before them ripple. As Mooger traces vanished one after another. As though they never existed at all. “Rangers.” The six each turned towards they Sensei but remained eerily silent. Though the questions were written across their faces, each of them wanting to accuse him of holding back. But none of them having it in them to say it directly. But Ji knew better. Placing his hands upon the head of his walking stick, he gave them an understanding nod. “You want answers, and you deserve them. Yes, I know this woman who came and stole your Zords. To say, that is, I knew her.” “Knew her?” Jayden asked for the team, and Ji gave him a nod. “Yes Jayden. She is my Sister.” Looking out at the stunned faces Ji shook his head, and began circling them slowly. The room so silent all that echoed was the occasional strike of his stick on the ground. “She is my sister, Kyoko. And she was to be one of the chosen Rangers when your Father, Jayden, was the Red. But she was to stubborn. She thought not only should we destroy the Moogers and Nighlok which enter our world, but also the people who do deals with them. Her thinking was if people saw what happened when you dealt with Nighlok then they would stop. But that is not our way.” “So she was thrown out for disagreeing?” Ji rose his hand to silence Antonio and continued his tale. “No, Antonio. She was banished for doing something horrible. She nearly destroyed a man for making a deal with a Nighlok. It was ten years ago, and the Nighloks were far less a problem than they are now. One would slip through the cracks, maybe, once every month. This one though was particularly crafty. Instead of taking from you, he gave you what your heart most desired. And then twisted the results into something horrific. Your Father led the charge against him, Jayden, and he was destroyed. But when they turned around Kyoko was holding the man who made the deal. His body lifeless and trapped within a coma, and her sword drawn. She’d beaten him down for making the deal and making the Nighlok so powerful that he destroyed a home for children. The other Rangers stopped her, bound her, and brought her back here. Stripping her of her Morpher and her Zord.. The Black Bat Folding Zord. They knew I had to make the decision because she was my sister, and I banished her from the Shiba House forever. But one week later we discovered her Zord was missing.” The Rangers all frowned. Giving each other worried glances while Jayden paced behind them, along the window overlooking the ruined gate. “So she built herself a new Morpher?” Ji gave a roll of his shoulders. “I believe so, one without a symbol. Allowing her to control not only her own Zord, but all of yours, as well.” “So what do we do?” Jayden turned towards Mike, but gave a nod. He was going to ask the same thing. They all were. They couldn’t destroy her like they could a Nighlok. Beneath the violence she was Human. “You fight. You must destroy her Power Disc to rescue your Zords. I know she is my sister, and I love her very much. Despite what she is doing. But you must be strong Rangers, you must stop her before she does something truly evil.” Antonio was the only one smiling. “Fantastico!” Launching himself from his chair he rushed into his bedroom and recovered the one weapon they had left. The one thing they could use against their own Zords, and help them destroy her disc. “The Light Zord!” |

The Coming of Black
Three The acrid smell of smoke filled the square, rising with the sounds of the people screaming while they ran for their lives. Buildings around them shook. Debris cracking open the instant it struck the ground. And she stepped through the running masses as though they hadn’t even existed. Her gloved hand wrapped tight around the handle of her sword, while the other slid the heavy disc around the blade. Snapping them together with an inaudible click only she felt. One foot landed before the next during her slow walk forward. Every movement timed like an intricate dance she had done countless times before. They come from the right. Her body shifts towards the left, sidestepping the first round of Moogers with ease. Allowing her to slice through them each with a single blow. And return to her slow march forward without second thought. More leap from the right and are just as easily dispatched by the streaking black fury of her beloved Zord. The furious screech the only thing announcing her coming. Her momentum halted at the mouth of the ruined square. Open-air restaurant’s tables and chairs overturned and ruined. Glass along an office building behind her cracked and shattered, sending particles of glass falling like snowflakes behind her. It would all be beautiful if there wasn’t a broken woman hidden in an alley. Stuck within a coma. And put there by this woman holding the sword so tight her knuckles began to glow white. “Who are you?! I don’t remember Zandredd saying anything about a black one!” The Nighlok was another ludicrous amalgam. Imagine one of those magic eight balls you played with as a kid, only with arms and legs, made from rock, and with large bat wings. Deep down she wondered if Zandredd sent this Nighlok here as a way of weeding out the idiocy of his armies. “Hey! Are you ignoring me?!” The voice forced her from her thought and brought her firmly again into reality. A swift upturn of her blade sent her feet rushing towards the Nighlok. One foot falling before the next, carefully shifting her weight to dodge through the gathering army of rank-and-file Moogers attempting to stop her. The purple trail of light, and sound of Moogers being destroyed, told her she didn’t need to worry. Her Zord would handle anyone trying to blindside her. Giving her a clear path towards the surprised, flailing, Nighlok trying to move from the path of her blade. A nearby railing was all she needed. Leaping towards the steel she placed one foot on the top rung of the rail, allowing her to send herself hurtling skyward. Both hands wrapped around the handle of her sword. And had sealed her mistake. From above her glowing blue arrows rained down just inches from her, forcing her to roll right and miss her mark. Only to watch helpless from over her shoulder while the Nighlok detonated thanks to the slash from Fire Red’s Fire Smasher weapon. Meaning above her.. Following the line of the shots, and sure enough, she saw Water Blue landing beside his leader. To the Left Sky Pink emerged from the nearby rubble, from the right Earth Yellow, leaving only Forest Green and Light Gold appearing before her. How sweet. She wondered how long before.. “You aren’t escaping this time!” There it was. Another demand from Fire Red, such a good leader he was, so forceful. Such an idiot. Her beloved Folding Batzord began as she planned. Swirling around her, beginning at her ankles, and rising along her body. Covering her in a black haze emitted from within his wings. “Hey, that’s cheating!” That would be Gold whining. But he wasn’t her first target, that honor belonged to Wind Pink. Stepping from the clouds she kept her body low and aimed her blade towards her spinsword. Smiling beneath her helmet when she heard the crack of the power disc knowing she had damaged the already weakened weapon. A quick fist to her stomach would send her toppling to her knees, and out of the fight. For now. Pressing her feet firm she leapt herself backward narrowly avoiding an assault from Earth Yellow. Distracting her from seeing the Batzord slicing through her disc using his razor sharp wingtips. She to was out. The others began coming from every direction at once. But she was prepared. The call of lion above them distracted them nicely when all their Zords descended from on high and began striking their former friends. Allowing her to take them one by one. Gold and Green fell with swift strikes from her blade, while Blue fell soon as his dragon snapped through his disc. Leaving her standing face to face with the one she knew would be trouble. Fire Red. “We can fix our discs, all you did was buy yourself time…” Beneath her helmet she gave a cold laugh, and shook her head towards the younger man. “If I wanted your powers destroyed I would’ve done it. But you’ll be out of my way for the next few days while you repair your discs.. That’s enough for me, Boy.” Jayden continued keeping his cool. While they slowly rounded each other, him shouldering his Smasher against his right side, while she held her sword low. Both hands grasping tight around the handle. “We found the woman you hurt..” A small cant of her head before answering. “And? Sooner they learn not to deal with Nighlok, sooner I stop punishing them… that simple.” “.. Nothing is ever that simple…” She gave him another emotionless laugh. “You’ll learn about the world soon enough, Boy.” And the Final Fight began. To Be Concluded. |

The Coming of Black
Intensify Jayden held tight around the handle of his Fire Smasher. Clenching his teeth the instant the blow fell against the bulky blade, with such an intensity his feet struggled to keep him planted. Black had made the first move against him. She kept her profile low, by bending herself forward while clearing the distance between them, and brought the full extent of her strength into that first swing of her blade. “You could always run, Boy. It would be easier.” Jayden placed the blunt side of the weapon against his shoulder, giving it a shrug to push her off and allow him to take a few steps backward. Needing the breathing room to plan his next strike. “You know we can’t do that.” She took an odd stance. Her right foot was in front of her left, with her right hand holding her sword. But she was holding it upside down, placing it along the length of her arm behind her. Watching while free hand opened chest height, and allowed her Bat to land comfortably in the space of her open palm. Jayden knew what was coming even before the animal took from her palm. Returning the Smasher to Spin Sword State he brought the weapon up and followed every movement. The Zord was quicker than he imagined, but every time it swooped towards him his sword knocked it away again. His blade a flurry of movement almost unseen until the final blow struck through his defenses. Sending him backward from the force of the stroke, one hand now holding his chest. And the tear made through his uniform. His feet planted down firm, Jayden bent his knees and leapt himself skyward. Knowing Black would follow. Sure enough. Her hands both held the handle of her of her weapon as they danced around one another. Leaping from building to building, using them to gain more height while they tried gaining an advantage over each other. Each time their leaps brought them close their swords clashed, sending sparks and fire raining onto the square down below. Finding perches on opposite rooftops their voices carrying through the valley of steel and glass as they both called upon power to conceal them in light. “Red Super Samurai!” Jayden turned his back towards Black while the streaks of white surrounded him, becoming the Ji of the Super Samurai. “Shark Disc!” Black threw her sword skyward while she to turned herself away from Jayden. The instant her right hand caught her blade the Shark Disc clicked itself into the hand guard causing her to be surrounded by her own crimson light, becoming the Black Ji of her twisted Shark Power. And her Sword to become the Shark Zord. Turning herself towards him, she brought the sword up in time to catch his leaping strike from across the rooftops. Using her free hand to push against her blade and send him back towards his side with a single flip midair. And she returned in kind. From her perch she aimed her blade towards him, allowing the Shark to stretch himself out and strike. Jayden twirled himself around. His blade a flurry of movement each time he brought the weapon up to block Shark from stretching, and attacking, from another direction. Before finally she recalled the blade back to it’s original state. “Now, Lightie!” Black turned herself, sword raised, as though she were prepared to strike back another attack. But what she didn’t expect was Light Zord standing at full height behind her. She aimed her blade but watched, wide-eyed, while Light Zord recalled the weapon once stored inside of him. The Shark Disc slipping from her sword and slipping back into Light Zord returning her back to normal again. Jayden watched on while their plan began working. Black was losing her temper, leaping from the rooftop to try and slice open Light Zord and retrieve the Shark Disc. Only to be slapped away and sent hurtling towards the ground stories below them. Jayden leapt from his perch and followed. Giving Black another surprise as she found herself surrounded by each of the rangers, with undamaged discs. “Ji knew you’d go for our discs first.” Mike nodded, waving her off. “All you did was destroy fakes!” Kevin stepped forward, pulling back the handle of his Water Bow. “And lose the Shark Disc.” Emily though broke ranks. The others watching on, keeping their weapons raised, as Emily took a few steps towards Black. “Surrender. Come back with us and we..” Black cut off her plea with an angry swing of her blade. Emily was to slow to raise her weapon, but the sound of metal catching her sword echoed in the square. As Antonio pushed her off his Barracuda Blade and kept himself between Emily and Black. “Just watch it, Old Lady! That’s a friend of mine. Jayden, what say we end this?” Super Red gave a noticeable nod, opening his Morpher with his free hand. While his sword rested up against his shoulder. “What are you doing, Boy…” Black growling the words. Watching him dial through his Samurai Morpher and sent a tone echoing between the buildings. “Fantastico!” Soaring above them the Zords swooped from above, landing upon the shoulder of their respective partner. “Ji gave us what we needed.” Jayden explained. “A symbol power to return the Zords to us.” And a shrug from Antonio. “And some programming from yours truly, I programmed the power into an audible tone. Using the buildings to amplify the symbol and break your control.” Taking slow, deliberate steps, Jayden slowly approached the angered Black ranger. “Emily’s right, you should surrender. Ji said you can return with us, learn a better way, become one of the team.” They all watched, they all hoped, she’d accept their request. But the only answer they’d receive is a humorless laugh from inside the featureless helmet. “I still have my Zord, Boy!” .. But nothing came. Frantically she turned her head, searching for her beloved Bat. But a frustrated growl was all that came. As she turned and saw her Zord held in Mike’s hand. Locked inside it’s Symbol form and silent. “Sorry, Lady. But while you were off up there fighting Jayden, we were down here sealing your Zord.” Angered she turned herself. Blindly striking out towards Jayden, slicing at him again and again. Only to be blocked each time by the faster Super Samurai. “Stop this, don’t make us take you down!” But she wouldn’t listen. She continued striking against him blindly only to be blocked and deflected without much effort. But Jayden just pushed her off shoving her into the square between the rangers who surrounded her. Each of them calling out the symbol Ji had given them. “Symbol Power Wind, Seal!” “Symbol Power Earth, Seal!” Both pink and yellow symbols soaring from their Morphers only to lock around Black’s wrists, pulling them until her arms were forced stretch wide. “Symbol Power Forest, Seal!” “Symbol Power Water, Seal!” “Symbol Power Fire, Seal.” The three rangers’ symbols took hold of her. Wrapping around her body. Sealing her sword until the weapon crushed beneath the weight of them, and fell into shards on the ground below. “Symbol Power Light, Seal and Break!” The Light sealed around her helmet. Breaking through her final bastion of power, and as the other symbols freed her, broke through and sent it clanging onto the ground. Kyoko screamed as her helmet split open and broke forever. Kyoko fell upon her knees, head held within her hands, wearing a kimono similar to her brothers. Only a white and gray floral pattern. Her straight black hair falling down against her shoulders, concealing her face from their view. Shiba House Everyone gathered inside the main room of the Shiba House. Mike, Emily, and Mia gathered around the Seeing Table. Enjoying seeing their Zords walk, and play along, the table’s surface. Antonio was off to the side frantically typing into his Morpher. Trying another idea to make Light Zord stronger. Kevin, as always, found himself pacing behind them. One hand raised to his mouth, chewing on his thumbnail again. And Jayden wasn’t there. Jayden stood beside his mentor down the hallway. Watching the sleeping Kyoko laying in the spare bedroom, looking nothing like the angry woman who nearly destroyed them. “When are you going to tell them, Sensei?” Ji shook his head, hands held upon the top of his ever-present stick. “They do not need to know. For now they know the people she hurt have recovered with the destruction of her twisted power. Penance will come through her helping those she hurt, and maybe peace will follow. But they don’t not need to know the truth. For now they accept she is my sister, even though she is only a little older than all of you..” The Red Ranger gave an understanding nod. “They’ll learn when they need to then.” And Ji laid a hand upon his shoulder. “Yes Jayden, they will. For now, I ask you, please do not tell them she is not my sister.. She is my daughter.” The End of Black |
