As someone who never buys alternate forms - this is nice since I can swap piece and display the figure as I please.
But yes, forcing people to buy multiples sucks big time. Especially since you have leftover parts every time. Also, I still don’t get why it’s Sword + Gun and not Sword + Plat. |

Sword + Plat form would have been a far better idea, I agree. I think my big no-no here is "forms that can exist at the same time". That's why I'd be fine with, say, a hypothetical Flaming Tiger/Flying Falcon set (an idea that's so awesome it's guaranteed to never happen), but not Ax Form/Rod Form. At least with Plat Form, while it could potentially be neat to display it alongside Sword Form; they're at least things that never existed at the same time unlike every other Den-O form.
There is one selfish upside for me, though: I've long decided that my ideal Den-O display is Climax, Liner, New and Zeronos (Vega?). So this means they'll move on from the individual forms much, much quicker and onto these ones.

Granted I haven't watched Den-O in a while but Den-O's forms also don’t really appear together all the time. Oh wow, I only now realized we will probably get a Zeronos with alternate parts to turn it into Vega. That's going to be awesome. Last edited by Kiwami; 11-25-2019 at 02:18 PM.. |

To be fair, wasn’t it the almost exception that Den-O's forms could appear alongside each other? It was a big deal when they took down the movie villain and they had to screw with the timeline to make it happen, right?

Remember Sword and Gun forms were the only Den-O core forms that were mass released in the SIC line the Rod and Axe form two pack was a unnumbered special edition. it in come weird way makes sense to back the parts for the most popular core forms together for this release.

The original Figuarts too; I remember Axe and Rod form specifically being a 2-pack while Gun form got the single release.
Still... I feel my points stand. These forms are not minor enough to warrant the treatment of "alternate display option".

The original figurarts releases had Axe form as a single figure event exclusive while Rod and Gun forms were a P-Bandai web exclusive.
Regardless considering that Geiz Revive and Evol have their alternate forms (excluding Black Hole in the laters case) as simple parts swaps this might just be the norm from here on out if the alternate forms are simple enough differences. I’m more surprised that they didn’t increase the price so to in clude the parts for Rod and Gun form. |

I feel like an idiot for not noticing this sooner, but I realized why Sword & Gun Form are one set: The back part of the armor is identical on both. This means they only have to include one of these pieces instead of two.
There's probably one back piece, two different fronts (Sword & Gun), plus a faceplate, belt-piece and shin plates for both. So Rod & Axe Form is another set, simply because they also only need one back piece since it is identical on both forms as well. This isn’t about which forms make sense to be sold together from a story or popularity-point of view, it’s to save costs on plastic and paint |

Sword has Axe on its back. Sword's chest flips open upwards to reveal Gun. Rotate Sword and you get Axe. Axe's chest opens up sideways for Rod. |
