I'm not covering the alternate cube combinations or the auxiliary cubes because the former aren't that different from the official combinations and the latter are just weapons
Zyuoh King The cube aesthetic of Zyuohger is certainly a love it or hate it sort of thing. While I wouldn't say it's the most exciting thing ever, I think it does work to some degree with the mechas. Since Sentai mechas up till now have been defined as big and bulky, the cube aesthetic does kind of fit. Zyuoh King while simple in execution, does still work in that simplicity, having a rather nice design and proportions. It's not my favourite main mecha ever, but I don't mind it. Zyuoh Wild I think Zyuoh Wild executes the cube aesthetic even better than Zyuoh King. Just something about the way the cube aesthetic is used in the design helps give Zyuoh Wild a rather strong and powerful look. I also like the colour scheme a lot, mainly the way the red, black, gold and white are mixed in the upper torso Wild Zyuoh King Like with Zyuoh Wild, I think Wild Zyuoh King uses the cube aesthetic very well which results very strong and powerful proportions, especially with the shoulders and the chest. The design also feels rather cohesive, like it doesn’t entirely look like two separate mechas that combined together, compared to some previous combination mechas, aside from stuff like the two separate fist sculpts. Though the way the auxiliary cubes are used is a little lame, as they’re just stuck to the side of the legs and not doing anything. Tousai Zyuoh I appreciate how Tousai Zyuoh differs from the other two mechas in how it utilizes the cubes, such as Cube Crocodile forming the entirety of the right forearm and Cube Wolf forming the head and chest. Ultimately however, I find the overall design to be a little unimpressive. Like there’s nothing totally wrong, there’s just nothing that really sticks out to me. I do wish they played around with how Tousai Zyuoh uses the cubes, like having other cubes to swap with Cube Crocodile. Though I will say I like how the colour scheme is spread out, with a black base body, gold highlights all around, and the silver chest. It nicely evokes Zyuoh The World own colour scheme. Wild Tousai King Aside from the cube feet and how the auxiliary cubes are once again just stuck to the side of the legs, I like this combination. It does a lot of neat things such as how it uses the Big King Sword and Big Wild Cannon, pieces that were previously used to form the heads of Zyuoh King and Zyuoh Wild, and repurposes them as weapons. I also like the way the cubes as they are very spread out across the whole combination, some being parts of the legs, arms, shoulders, and chest Dodekai-Oh While I don’t think Dodekai-Oh looks too bad, out of the mechas, I think Dodekai-Oh is the one where the cube aesthetic kind of doesn’t work in its favour. Dodekai-Oh design has an emphasis on waves, specifically with the shoulders and the water sprouting out from the head. However because of the cube aesthetic, instead of smooth curved shapes, we instead have blocks trying to form the shape of waves. It just looks off though I suppose that’s kind of charming in its own way. I also kind of wish for a little more blue, the colour scheme seems a little too mono chromatically red. Wild Tousai Dodeka King From waist up, I think this combination looks fine. All the details really convey this sense of regality, from the head design, to the chest details. The arms look a little odd but I think it incorporates the auxiliary cubes the best out of all the combinations, which mostly stuck them to the side. Then we get everything from the waist down and that's when everything falls apart for me. Simply put, I hate those legs. I find them be really lazy, like the designers gave up on trying to incorporate the other cubes. If maybe there was some leg like structure that they plugged into, then maybe it could work. But instead it's just cubes stacked on top one another, they don’t look like actual legs to me. ZyuohKing Octopus This seems like a really weird thing to add. It does not resemble any of the previous auxiliary cubes, and the Zyuoh King didn’t really have alternate forms unless you can’t count the various times it swapped cubes, but even that method of alternate forms is completely different from this one. Given that they debuted around the same time, I guess this is Zyuoh Bird own personal cube which begs the question, why is it an octopus. As a whole though, I think it looks okay, it just comes off an oddity in the Zyuohger mecha lineup Wild Tousai Shuriken King This is really lame. Just a shuriken plopped in front of Wild Tousai King, that’s it. For the versus movie of the 40th anniversary show, you'd think would get something that's you know, cooler than this Condor Wild Eh. It’s not bad by any means, it’s just that compared to previous movie retools, this comes across as a little basic. The animal form for Cube Condor is kinda neat though, with how it reworks Cube Gorilla into a bird form. Last edited by Byg42; 07-27-2019 at 11:54 PM.. |

I like the cube aesthetic. ...Which is more to say that I got used to it over time. It's this series' unique look and I can appreciate that. Zyuoh King is a cute thing and everything else up until Wild Tousai Dodeka King is rather charming in how it makes all those cubes work into robot bodies.
Unfortunately the ultimate combination's legs really aren't great. They don't look like they should be able to bend at all without tumbling down! I'll give it this much though, having them just stack the cubes like that makes this mecha look a lot less messy and immobile than the usual 'put them all together' type mecha. |

My most hated Sentai, and this is one of the main reasons why.

A complicated Sentai as the team and villain designs are passable, but the Mecha drag it down a notch!
I didn't hate the series, and the two episodes with Gokaiger are exceptional, though mildly underwhelming in places. I truly believe that it could work as a P. R., but not just yet! It's too soon for there to be another animal-theme with Beast Morphers still in progress. If it is done, I would place greater emphasis on Wild Zyuoh King as a "Main Megazord", and reduce Zyuoh King and Zyuoh Wild to a human-sized status. |

It took a while, but the cubes did grow on me. The only mecha I think just doesn't look good is Dodekai Oh, to be honest. The rest look quite good and use the cube look to their advantage. Even the final one, stacking the first 8 cubes in two rows of 4 I think looks pretty nice. It's the perfect culmination of how they combine.

Looking at this now, I wonder if condor and octopus were swapped in production at some point.
Maybe Octopus was meant to be the movie exclusive and Condor was going to be Birds mecha, but something made it so they had to be swapped. |

Nah, as an original mold, there was no way Octopus was planned to be the movie exclusive. Plus, if I'm remembering movie timings, Condor debuts far before ZyuohBird. Not the character, but the suit.

Dang, did not notice that Cube Condor was a retool of Cube Gorilla. For me Wild Tosai King is probably the best out of all of the designs.
