KyurenOh
Kyuranger was the show that inspired me to do this whole thing and that's mainly because I really like KyurenOh. Conceptually, the multiple limbs gimmick is really cool, with every Voyager being able to form an arm or a leg, and with 4 limb ports and 8 Voyagers, there are a ton of different combinations that KyurenOh can take on. What helps is that the show manages to showcase this gimmick very well, with almost every episode showing some new combination. It really helps give a neat bit of variety to the mecha fights, which at this point, are something that I think most people aren’t very interested in. RyuTeiOh RyuTeiOh is fine. The dragon helmet is a rather striking design and the nature of how the Ryuu Voyager transforms is pretty cool as it's essentially RyuSeiOh's transformation, where the dragon folds in half to create the body and legs. The biggest issue I would say I have is that RyuTeiOh both proportionally and silhouette wise feels a little too similar to KyurenOh, most especially in the upper chest and I think has to do with how it also has the multiple limb gimmick. While I did praise the gimmick on KyurenOh and those same praises do apply to RyuTeiOh, an issue that appears as a result is that RyuTeiOh has to share a similar-ish body type to KyurenOh so that it can be fully compatible with the gimmick. RyuTei KyurenOh This combination isn't too great. It's basically just a worse version of Buster Ohranger Robo, with RyuTeiOh becoming a backpack for KyurenOh and the dragon head becoming part of the chest. I wish there was a new head or at least some other new ornament to help separate this combination a bit more from KyurenOh because as is, it just looks like KyurenOh but with more things jammed on to it. Gigant Houou Oooo, I really like Gigant Houou. Given that it’s themed after a rocket, it really conveys that with those sharp, hard edges and overall sleek design. I really like the colour scheme as it’s quite nicely balanced, with the white lower body and red upper body, with hints of red and gold throughout. While it’s not at all compatible with the other Voyagers, I think that ultimately works in Gigant Houou favour as it doesn’t have to share the same type of body proportions as either KyurenOh or RyuTeiOh in order to have that gimmick. Also that combination sequence is great. Kyutamajin Kyutamajin is pretty dumb but in an admittedly sort of fun way. It reaches that level of absurdity that I just can’t help but smile at it. And aside from the lack of hands, I think the design is actually somewhat solid, the Kyutamas are spread fairly evenly across the whole body and they feel like a natural part of the design rather than something that was tacked on. What also helps is the overall colour balance, the way the colours are spread out allows each Kyutama to be prominent without becoming overbearing as a whole. Orion Battler/Orion Bazooka Orion Battler breaks tradition from other final standalone mecha in that it doesn’t really have a combination with the other mechas, unless you count the Orion Bazooka which I don’t since that’s less a combination of all four mechas and more a weapon formation. Instead Orion Battler interacts with the other Voyagers by being a launching base for most them which I think is a neat alternative way for it to interact with the other mechas. As the final standalone mecha, I think it does its job about as well as it needs to do. It has solid beefy design alongside a neat bit of asymmetry with the gold right arm, a nice spread of colours consisting of mostly purple and white with highlights of other colours, I particularly like the gold highlights all throughout the body and the blue used for the club and the mane. Super KyurenOh Super KyurenOh feels like a throwback to Super Armor Shine GingaiOh, an upgrade upon the main mecha that adds a new head piece, new chest and a new weapon. I think it’s a neat, if somewhat random repertoire in the Kyuranger mecha lineup. The head is a cool evolution on KyurenOh head with the added crest and mane and the bazooka is also cool. I do wish that maybe more was added to the chest aside from just the gold Kyutama, like perhaps some other new ornament akin to how the dragon head attaches there for RyuTei KyurenOh. The Super Shishi Voyager form is neat too. Cerberios Cerberios is just ok. It’s not the most exciting remold but the cerberus theme is a neat way to repurpose Shishi Voyager. The Cerberus heads do look a little awkward in the robot form. If they were maybe just a little lower and more in line with the shoulder, then they would look a little more natural. Lots of nice looking robots from space, but Gigant Houou might be one of my favourite sentai mechs ever, top five at least! It's a great combination of sleek, strong, all those colours coming together beautifully, and of course the practical effects behind it's transformation might just be the best I've ever seen out of Sentai.
Kyutamajin comes in second for personally, being the quintessential example of Kyuranger's orb and space aesthetics. We had cubes before and now spheres. The mechas of the season afterwards should have been nothing but pyramids and prisms. |

My favorite is Gigant Houoh. Swords? Flame patterns? Not too bulky and not too extra parts-y? What's not to love?
Also, Kyutamajin is the best 'ultimate combo' I've seen. Kind of wish they used those thruster hands as giant flamethrowers. |

Would not be surprised if this got Power Ranger'd and in season 2 Kojishi Voyager becomes the upgrade zord for the Red Ranger that sticks till the end. Out of all the voyagers Orion Battler takes the win for me.

I love how Kyurenoh looks, but the individual Voyagers are varying levels of underwhelming. Shishi Voyager is particularly low effort and doesn't really look like anything but Kyurenohs torso. Super Shishi Voyager at least fixes that and makes it look pretty cool.

I love KyurenOh to death. However, RyuteiOh only consits of 3 components makes Washi, Tenbin and Hebitsukai Voyager rendered useless since they're not a part of the default combination.
Although come to think of it, those 3 Voyagers are basicallt the equivalent of auxillary zords for the series.

My key issue is that, to accommodate the limb swapping gimmick with every piece able to be an arm or leg, nearly every piece feels rather lifeless. Aside from gold, silver, and pink (The least used, ironically), every piece just looks like a colored blob with an animal head. There isn't a strong design aesthetic because they needed to be arms and legs, and they wanted to keep the transformation as simple as possible, so as a result, the individual pieces of Kyuren Oh feel worthless.
Ryutei Oh is much of the same, but at least Ryuuvoyager as a whole is much nicer. The throwback to RyuSeiOh is very welcome. Unfortunately, it's combo with Kyuren Oh is one of the worst. Gigant Houoh is pretty nice. I didn't actually watch Kyuranger to the point where it showed up, but it's still a nice design. I want to like Kyutamajin, but honestly, every time I see it, my first thought is always "Why couldn't they incorporate the actual voyagers, rather than just the Kyutama?" If you're going to do something crazy, go all out. Don't half ass it. And with how basic and simple the voyagers are, I doubt it would've been a daunting task. Orion...Yeah, he's there.
