OH no, how dare people charge a price to buy DVDs. How dare we have to pay to support a show we love.
Sorry, but all I hear is someone waawaa about having to put money forth to support a show. I went out and bought the Region 2 DVDs for $500 for the entire series. The whole series from Shout will most likely come to $40-50, so please, don't give me your crocodile tears about how unfair it is to spend money on something. Hell, I already said I'm going to buy additional copies to use as prizes. Finally, how is this any different than anime? Hell, anime has less of a fansubber market since every new series is now streamed legally subtitled as it airs. |

I keep agreeing with you. Seriously. Kain hit it exactly on the head. it's no different then bringing over an anime like Attack on Titan or Elfin Lied. Just it's a Toku. And yes, you'll have to pay for it. OMG No! But like, I think it was Den-O, someone said it'll only vcost around 50 bucks for the whole set and maybe 10 or so a piece. So it's not exactly bank breaking.
But it's still a good picture and a nice start.

They can, and if there was a Sentai series they released that I planned on watching, or loved, I most likely will anyway.
But, isn't that breaking another rule anyway? You're not supposed to import DVDs, that's why they have region locks in place. If I import those Power Rangers sets from Shout Factory, for example, I am stepping and infringing on the license of Village Roadshow, who is the distributor here. I am overriding the intended DRM on the US discs. There's always the "not for sale outside the USA" bit. The point is that this is still disrespecting the licenses of those involved. Of course, I'll also need to figure out how to get it to run on my PC. What you see there on the far end where the MMPR DVDs are are Gokaiger BDs and Region 2 DVDs of Flashman, Zyu, Dai, Kaku, Oh, Car, Ginga, GoGoV, Time, Gao, Aba, Magi, Black, Blade, Ryuki, Garo, Sailor Moon, B-Fighter Kabuto, and a bunch of Toku movies. All of those Yu-Gi-Oh! DVDs are Region 2. Oh, and the Gundam ZZ BDs are from Japan too. Last edited by Dr Kain; 07-26-2014 at 11:41 AM.. |

I know you have a large collection, and it is respectable to support the creators in such a way.
Personally, I simply cannot do that. Many a time, I've been tempted to, especially when the thing is not available here. For example, US releases of My Little Pony are far more up to date than here. They're also much cheaper at half the price. But I can't bring myself to buy them because to me I am paying to circumvent the license. It's either I pay Madman (the local distributor), or I do without. So I have done without, because Madman's releases are too slow and overpriced. My rationale is, why should I pay for something that doesn't feel fully official? That was not meant to be sold to me? That I have to circumvent some DRM somehow, such as by getting a region-free player. It doesn't feel like a complete experience, in my opinion. Of course, this is just my opinion, for me.

Do you have Philips brand players in Australia? If so, they tend to have an easy few button combination to turn it into region free. That is what I did.

Oh, region free players are everywhere here. Australia has made it a habit to be region-free in terms of players because distributors suck down here.

So if the Zyuranger DVD release does well, would it open things up to get other Sentai shows brought here? If so, I'm interested.
