Going for decade route. Agito plus zio trinity finished. Tsuki gaining special powers? No more kiriko like and become misora, mai, or natsumi.

Watched hq raw with foreign subs. It seems last week preview made it seem like tsuki will lose her memory this week, but the writing team is pulling another "key" character twist. She lost her memory before joining the resistance. She seems to possess some time power as well like Schwartz and zio.

Holy. So many amazing throw-backs to Agito. The G3 training segment, complete with heads-up display and suit-up montage. Shoichi's reaction to the presence of Unknown (in this case, Another Agito). The recreation of Agito's first on-screen henshin with the blinding light from the belt and out-of-suit fighting. I got goosebumps.
The extended cold-open and new narration indicates that this is the definitive start of a new arc. White Woz is gone from the opening and I believe they have changed the Rider title montage (correct me if I am wrong). They set up the tribute brilliantly - Showing us where Shoichi currently resides and revealing his face while Woz tells the viewers who the main guest is - If this is any indicator of the format the next 5 tributes will follow, we are in for a really good time. Because as an Agito tribute, as I said above, this is highly successful. The G3 Unit scene with Omuro in an active role; Rina Akiyama returning as Mana-chan for the first time despite having been a recurring actress in the franchise with Den-O; A good look at restaurant Agito; A plot involving Another Agito look-a-likes; Shouichi having a good amount of screen time rather than being a glorified cameo. This stuff alone make this episode a fantastic tribute to one of the greatest Rider entries ever conceived. What elevates this even further is how they tie it into the main Zi-O plot. Tsukuyomi being related to the Time Jacker's was foreshadowed in the opening for a long time, but bringing it to light here makes thematic sense. The idea that she is an amnesiac parallels Shoichi's story, and based on production photos he might give her a heart-to-heart next episode too. I think it's really intriguing how she has Time Jacker powers and it finally gives her relevance after being relegated to a side character for so long. As for the other Time Jacker's, the antagonism between them is making for good drama. The chemistry between the main three Rider's is at a point that I'm really enjoying their interactions. The comedy this episode was great. Zi-O mistaking Agito's name and Woz correcting him, Sougo introducing himself to Mana bluntly and Geiz cringing, and Woz taking control of Zi-O Trinity to announce his presence to awkward silence and the subsequent argument between the three were all laugh-out-loud moments. The action and use of special effects was really good this episode. The Another Agito stuff was actually pretty disturbing. They're like zombies and the sound effects they used when they bit into a G3 user to assimilate him into their ranks was actually pretty gnarly. I'm guessing the thematic link there is in reference to the whole notion of evolution into Agito's from the original show. Shoichi reacting to their presence is evidence of that. Going by the production images, Agito's power will be stolen and Shoichi will have to fight as G3 for a bit, which is exciting. Aside from that, we'll see proper form changes for the Legend Rider and a Trinity team up so I am unbelievably stoked for next week's episode! |

Man I wish the first arc had these levels of tribute episodes like this one and the Blade one. I get that they wanted to try something different with the whole "Rider erased from history" angle than just doing straight up Gokaiger level tributes, But sometimes the obvious choice is the best choice.

Schwartz in his best Haggrid voice: "Yer a Timejacker Tsukuyomi"
Her: I'm a what? Here's the thing on that part: We already knew this. The intro pretty much gave it away if you haven't been paying attention for most of the season. So it's not a surprise. What is the mystery is Schwartz' intentions and whether he is in fact Oma Zi-O. I would agree that this was definitely a throw to the Agito look and feel. The use of the G3 unit as a subplot. They even got the Agito fight choreography down right. The return of Mana, just like Ayame with Blade was such a nice touch. And just like Blade, I feel like we're getting the 'nice' ending for the characters. From my perception, the last few episodes have been much better on the tribute level than the newer series received. Trinity just screams Den-O vibes, which is both hilarious and as equally OP as other forms. I'm guessing Geiz Revive's after effects are basically just an afterthought now.

Tsukiyomi having time-stopping powers would probably mean something more if we knew absolutely anything about the Time Jackers. As of now, we don't even know what defines or qualifies a Time Jacker. Is that something they call themselves or a term for whatever their manner of being is? I kinda stopped caring and expecting answers on that front a long time ago, so them implying Tsukiyomi has this connection doesn't drive up interest.
That said, anything can happen when it comes to amnesia plots, though I don't think we're going to find out that Tsukiyomi fell off a boat after fighting an Unknown! Speaking of, this episode was great fun. They're pushing those nostalgia buttons around Agito really, really well. If this and the preview is anything to go by, Shouichi being right there in the center of the conflict and fighting the enemy of the week probably instantly makes him the most prominent guest character yet unless we count Decade. And I think I'll find a spot in my heart for Zi-O Trinity if they keep playing up the innate goofiness of putting these three into one body. It's stupid looking so I'd prefer laughing when it's onscreen as opposed to them trying to sell it to me as being cooler than... any of the previous suits! |

I love how from this episode, it's clear the writers know their Agito lore.
In the original show, anybody could become Agito once their powers fully developed. So it makes sense here that Another Agito can forcefully create more Another Agitos. Then in Agito, the Unknown only attacked people who displayed psychic abilities and powers, which meant they would mostly ignore G3/G3-X users. But here, in a nice little inversion, the Another Agitos ignore the actual Riders (at least our core Riders) and strictly focus on attacking the G3 unit. This nod may not have been intentional, but it definitely works out. The beginning of the episode felt just like the beginning of Agito and that was a great little throwback. I was almost convinced that I was watching some footage from Agito for a second. And of course, seeing Shouichi again is always awesome, especially since, like with Blade, it seems like a direct continuation of his story. I'm loving this recent stretch of Zi-O episodes honestly.
