I am disappointed, but not surprised that this is non-transformable at this price point. Looks like they made a highly articulated show accurate (except for the wings) Zeo Megazord. It's not quite like the Legacy Megazords, but it is also a fraction of the price sooo.... I get it.
The Zeo Zords were the last zords I collected back when the show was still on, so I have a fondness for this Megazord. $70 US for an articulated figure like this isn't bad, but I would want to see paint details on the wings if they are going to be out like that. Sure, the wings out is not accurate but it is cool and hopefully they can also move down as well. |

I was so excited for Hasbro to pick up the brand because I couldn't wait to see what the Transformers guys could do with the zords.
How disappointing the acquisition has ultimately been for me on that front. They haven't done a single thing with the zords and megazords I've liked.

How disappointing the acquisition has ultimately been for me on that front. They haven't done a single thing with the zords and megazords I've liked. Now, we know the average development cycle for a Transformer is anywhere between a year to eighteen months from the very first moment of conception to official reveal (sometimes longer for larger or more intricate toys, or if things get delayed) so even assuming Hasbro is putting the same people working on TFs on PR (unlikely given that TFs is, y'know, still ongoing with multiple toylines running concurrently) and they started working on "Generations-style" Megazord immediately (unlikely) upon securing the brand, it's unlikely they'd have anything ready by now. And that's best possible case scenario. That's ignoring the fact that TFs is a flagship brand of Hasbro's, which Power Rangers is most certainly not, and that they have clearly funneled most of their R&D on the LC Rangers (given how quickly and strongly that line debuted basically on par with Black Series and Marvel Legends) and it's clear if they are working on proper Megazords, they're not going to be coming for a while. Collector's have the benefit of time, where we can remain invested in a line for years. Hasbro's clearly putting Beast Morphers as a priority and only doing LC because the reuse of bodies makes it feasible. (and yet they're already doing villains and special Rangers) I think PR fans need to be a bit patient. If in, like, two more years we still have no proper Megazords I'd start to panic, but I honestly believe this Zeo Megazord and the kid's line Dino Megazord are just there to fill the void until the real deal, whenever that is. Also, I'm gonna have to stick up for the BM Megazords real quick, because they support my theory that proper Megazords are not only possible, but absolutely on the way. Having examined the Ultrazord with a microscope, it's clear to me the intent to "improve" the design is present, and it's only a very obvious rushed development cycle that left it looking plain and feeling rickety. Yet the Red Zord was still designed to have more articulation it could pass on to both Mega and Ultra combinations, and emphasis was placed on proportions and making everything look sleeker and more show-accurate than the original (fat as fuck) Japanese versions. If they put the (rushed and IMO incomplete) effort into improving Go-Buster-Oh, I can't imagine they won't put at least as much effort into legacy designs in the future. |
