I understand that it was based around fanservice, but I think that led to it's biggest downfall. No one wanted to see the Gokaigers fight, everyone was cheering to see them transform into another team. And they did. And this lead directly into another problem. Lack of identity. The Gokaigers themselves had exactly one fighting style. Swap weapons. Luka always did the swords on ropes, Don always ran around tripped and shot. It stopped being interesting after the 4th time they did it.

I'm serious. Dead fucking serious. I don't care how much you think you know about anime. Princess Mononoke is the greatest anime thing. Ever. Sorry for dragging this into off-topic territory, as I haven't seen enough Sentai to really have an opinion here, but when someone is this wrong, I have to say something.

I enjoyed the Gokai Changes, yes, but I actually loved the Gokaigers' fighting style. All the swashbuckling stuff was a lot of fun and the show had some really exceptional fight choreography when the Gokaigers were letting loose as themselves. I especially loved Luka's God of War swords and Doc's crazy scrambling.
Lack of identity my hairy ant. They all have a fighting identities that connect well into their characters and back stories. It's a rarely for me to not know who is in the suit. Considering there's 300+ suits, that's impressive. Why is this? Because they all have an unique fighting styles and a way of acting that is always present. An identity if you would. Doc's fighting style is basically Ziggy from RPM. Doc has skills to win the fight, he just doesn't look good using them. Ahim is what I call "princess" style. Every move she makes is graceful. Joe is like a samurai. He prides himself in his swordsmanship and it shines through as long as he has a sword in his hand. Luka seems to have a forcible style. She will win by overpowering her enemies. Marvelous is the badass that will win the fight any way he can. 100% Pirate. If he sees something to take advantage of, he will. As for ways of acting to show who's in the suit. Doc always ruins role call poses, Ahim is again graceful, Joe forehead palms, Luka swings her pitching arm up, and Marvelous will mess with his sword and/or gun. There's other mannerisms, all of which both the in and out of suit actors use that makes believing these characters are actually in the suits far more believable than any other Sentai (or Rider). Gai even has a fighting identity and it's basically what Matrixbeast seems to think all the Gokaigers are. While Gai uses the power ups to win fights far to often, when he does Gokai Change into others rangers, he tries to imitate the ranger as best he can. Gokai Christmas comes to mind where he tries to imitate both Marvelous and Doc (a deadly combo ). Bottomline, I can ignore most of your complaints of Gokaiger as there a bit of truth to them, Matrixbeast, but not this one. You are 100% WRONG. Quote:
Honestly, after spending a month watching all 508 episodes of The Simpsons, I came to discover no series should ever be 500 episodes. I love One Piece to death, it is one of my favorite shows, but the manga should not have been allowed to run as long as it has. Same goes for Dragonball Yu-Gi-Oh!. Two more series I love, but seriously, way too many episodes.
Anyway, it is hard to say. I mean, there are a lot of great shows in the 50ish episode mark like Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood (well 64 eps), Ghost in the Shell SAC, Code Geass, and most Gundam series, but for the most part, the best are definitely in the 26 range. Death Note, Ouban Star Racers, Gankutsuou, Escaflowne, Speed Grapher, Noir, RahXephon, Cowboy Bebop, Big O, Wolf's Rain, etc. Quote:
Go. Watch. Princess Mononoke. Whatever it is you're doing, stop it right now and go watch it.

I agree that Gokaiger was inconsistent at best, but reading the interview with the producers and those guys after the fact and what it was meant to be and what it actually became for the country makes me appreciate it on a whole nother level.

I appreciate Star Trek for what it did for the sci fi genre. I appreciate Final Fantasy for what it did for RPGs. I appreciate Family Guy for what it did for adult orientated cartoons. I appreciate the Simpsons for what it did for cartoons in general.
Doesn't mean they're any good.

But the Gokaiger that was originally conceived and the Gokaiger that we got were probably going to be 2 completely different things, but because of the tsunami and the outpouring of older actors that wanted to get in on the series to lift up their country, it was changed. And the fact that they had to rewrite episodes on the fly to cooperate with the older actors availability and wanting to get in on the show, it gets a huge pass from me, and I may infact appreciate and like it more now.

Why is it every time there is an anniversary series, something happens? Gas attacks in Japan changed what OhRanger was orginally planned to be, then a tsunami changed what Gokaiger was originally going to be. Although, I doubt Gokaiger was really altered that much as opposed to OhRanger that had a complete 180 turn.

I'm surprised I'm not seeing a lot of hate for Bouken, as that seems to be a universally despised series.
