Well he did feel toned down in personality as soon as he married Rita. But it's not like he wasn't suddenly no longer a credible threat - arguably all his big wins came in season 3.

Oh no, that isn't what I meant. I meant that the nerfed him specifically for kids. I don't know any of kid that found Zedd scary and too evil.

back in the day, Zedd was scary as hell.
a skinless armored man with a really angry sounding voice and a snake slithering all over him? also, I loved the goofier Zedd near the end.

Lord Zedd look was cool and menacing with that husky voice. For an original power rangers villain , he was awesome and the first monster he created destroyed the dinozords. What a way to make an impact.

So I'm halfway through Zeo and wow, I haven't see a lot of these episodes since they first aired, but man, are some of them bad. THe ones with the cactus brothers and the Tanya being scooped for her singing voice are some of the worst episodes in the entire franchise. The plot is so full of holes (one of the episodes I just watched had Mondo and Machina state that Sprocket is the first child they built, WTF?), so many conveniences, and plotlines that were pointless. Like the whole Arrowhead one.
They spent 4 episodes on that thing, and then the plot is wrapped up without any actual resolution to it. Tommy just tricks Mondo into looking away and he grabs it with ease. What the hell? Why even bother? Oh, and David is never mentioned again. Anyway, I just got to the introduction to the Gold Ranger, which once again started all of this mystery that will lead into another major letdown. |

I was never a big fan of Zeo. Despite the praise it gets, I just never saw where it came from. The machine empire, while interesting at first, just doesn't have the same charm as Zedd and Rita and tends to slide into "Meh" territory for me. The rangers are their same old selves, not bad, but not spectacularly good, either. Tommy as leader didn't really feel like that big of an achievement considering he was basically leading the team when Rocky became Dino Red, and the plots contained with Zeo kind of stopped being interesting after the premiere.
I liked Jason's return as Zeo Gold, and I liked the idea of Trey and the powers rejecting Jason after so long, but they were handled rather poorly (If my memory serves). And, ultimately, I felt Zeo just didn't tell enough interesting stories to keep me super invested. It lacked the so bad it's good charm of MMPR, and the humor and insanity of Turbo, so I never could see why Zeo was always helmed as top 3 along, In Space and RPM, amongst fans.

Yeah, I loved Zeo as a kid, but honestly, in the end, it was not that great of a series. I used to think it was better than Ohranger, but now that I have been watching both series pretty much back to back, Ohranger, despite all of its lacklusterness, is the better series.
The Arrowhead plotline was pointless. Tommy's brother was pointless and showed up for one episode after the arrowhead arc. Then you had this bait and switch crap for who the identity of the gold ranger was. Oh, and both series are so poorly paced as far as mecha goes. They get the Super Zero Megazord, Auric, and Warrior Wheel all in the span of like 4 episodes. WTF people? Lastly, it seemed like they only used 20 episodes worth of the Machine Empire footage and just kept reusing the same scenes over and over again for all 50 episodes. The building of Kat and Tommy's relationship and the King for a Day arc are the highlights of the season. Although, I do like the final episode, none of it makes any sense the moment you watch the Turbo movie because nothing that happened matters. Zedd and Rita just retire. The rangers trade in their powers. Jason acts like he hasn't seen his friends in years. Bulk, Skull, and Stone are back with the police force and nothing is ever mentioned about Bulk and Skull taking the job in Paris. Finally, nothing is ever said about the machine empire as if they never existed. Last edited by Dr Kain; 09-03-2015 at 12:25 AM.. |

I was in that same boat, don't worry. As a kid, I loved Zeo, but when I rewatched it, I found it severely lacking. Like I said, it just sat so deep in the middle of mediocrity that it just didn't feel like there was really anything notable about it. The story felt so dull, the ending didn't feel as grand (If I recall, Zedd and Rita destroy the king and queen of the Machine Empire), and there just wasn't enough to keep me gripped.
It's actually why I found Turbo so enjoyable. Despite Linkara leading the fandom to believe Turbo is the worst series ever, it's zanity and not taking things so seriously led it to be an infinitely more enjoyable series.

I dont know why but I started watching Megaforce. Oh boy what did I get myself into? I dont think I have ever seen a tokusatsu that is this awkward. The actors are extremely unconvincing in anything they do. They dont fit the High School setting, dont even remotely act like real teenagers do and even those that are decent actors deliver there lines so, well, awkward.
The "story" is just beyond lazy and the villains are a bunch of idiots. Creepox encountered Troy and wanted to fight him. Troy said no so Creepox...left. He just left without doing anything. And what is the other villains response? They think the humans cant be beaten that easily because they refused to fight. That is so incredibly stupid that it hurts. And the rest? The action part of the show? Well it sucks. The action scenes are cool to look at but the show doesnt mix them well with the US Footage. The dubbing is awkward as hell and you never have the impression that someone is actually talking. You just get some disembodied voices over japanese stock footage. Speaking of stock footage. They dont handle it well at all. Unnecessary cuts that make the scene extremely confusing and hard to follow and big big biiiiig continuity errors. And I dont mean the usual stuff were they jump from location to location. In episode 3 the destroy the monster with their combined weapon and it explodes. All good. Then they go to a different location. The villains make the monster grow. And in the scene where its growing the Rangers are magically back to that spot in front of the monster holding their combined weapon. I mean WHAT?! Did they really think this would work and nobody would notice? Its just so amateurish how they handle this show. Hell even I could do better than this and I suck at editing. |
