I fell asleep watching the (American cut of the) first one, it bored me to death. Before I get shot, allow me to say it was dark outside in the first place, and I was expecting to, you know, see Godzilla at some point.
Honestly, I probably just need to watch it again without the idea that it's going to be the same kind of movie as any of the others in my head.

I love the american cut as it was my first Godzilla. The Japanese cut is a better film, but as far as old school dubbed and edited adaptions go it is still excellent. A lot of the showa films I've only seen dubbed when I was younger. Monster Zero is my favorite of those. Heisei is solid all around, and I do really enjoy the Millennium stuff. Godzilla against Mechagodzilla is my favorite of those. Final Wars is fun, but for having so many monster fights, it needed more... monster fighting. The human stuff is goofy amusing.
