Tokunation.com is continuing it's look back at Bandai of America's Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog toy line with a gallery of the Knights' fearsome battle machine, the Hailstorm Catapult.
The Hailstorm Catapult comes in two parts, an 'all-terrain' vehicle and the titular catapult that hitches on to the back. The set comes with 7 pressure missiles, 4 of which can fit in the front and the other 3 fit into a quiver that pegs into the side of the catapult. The catapult comes with two 'boulders' that are somehow light yet dense. There's no spring or other fancy gimmick, you just load the catapult and turn a nob to flip the arm forward. Despite this, the catapult has enough force to fire the projectile a several feet. The front half of the Hailstorm Catapult also has bone-like blades that swing out with the push of a lever. The back of the box names these as the Screaming Scycles of Terror. The vehicle also comes with an 'Angus' figure that 'stands' approximately 4.75 inches tall. The figure only has 2 points of articulation although it has a lot of sculpted details, the paint applications are minimal. All of this is acceptable though as the Hailstorm Catapult is designed to fit the 5 inch line of Knights. The overall sculpt and paint of the vehicle is well done with the texture of the wood elements really shining through. Despite being a toy-line only vehicle, it has a lot of personality and really completes a Mystic Knights display. Last edited by conundrum; 03-25-2014 at 11:17 PM.. |

I remember getting this for christmas back in 98 along with that purple... ram... thing the Lords of Temra had.
This was probably one of the most fun toys I'd ever owned up to that point. Unfortunately I lost the rock one day while playing out in the creek bed... or was it a ditch? Either way, never found it and had to use paper wads from then on. |
