I'll watch it to check out the puppeteering, but I don't expect much else. I'm not a sucker for eastern fantasy and the designs of the puppets look generic as hell.

Yeah it's totally awesome. The effects make the puppetry stand out too.

Looks like a lot of people on this board have never seen Pili or Golden Light before.
If you haven't, check this out: But even still, the story, characters, and action of Thunderbolt Fantasy top anything that Pili or Golden Light can dish out. And they've been doing it for 40 years. |

Tokusatsu in its proto state began as travelling puppet dramas featuring heroes and monsters. Performers would go from town to town and put on shows for people featuring various heroes. (the very first tokusatsu superhero came from these shows) This was also a tradition in China and it's pretty cool to think of them as a branched evolution. Puppet shows in Japan lead to tokusatsu programs while those in China lead to actual puppet TV dramas. Last edited by Aoi Kurenai; 07-11-2016 at 12:21 PM.. |

I watched episode one and well... it's pretty awesome. The puppeteering, fight choreography and effects are all great. Story seems rather generic but hey, it's only the first episode.
I'll continue watching for sure. So... Kasperle is a Tokusatsu hero? And the crocodile is the first German Kaiju? It all makes sense now. |

That is fantastic to learn about. I'll see about getting into others but I am loving Thunderbolt Fantasy right now. Episode 2 was a blast I love Shou Yun Xiao, The Sharp-Eyed Impaler that was a fantastic fight scene with him.
