I don't like feeling salty about this show so now that we're at the end, I'm going to now talk about things I really liked, just like Xtreme RX. Not in a full-review kind of way, but just some of the things I know I'll always look back on fondly when I think of Zi-O.
I've really grown to like (some of) the main characters. It's impossible for me not to have gotten a little attached over the course of 49 weekly episodes, but this show really got me to care about Sougo and Geiz. I definitely wouldn't put them on the level of Eiji and Ankh or Shotaro and Philip, but they had a really strong premise here. Soldier from the future comes back to kill the young version of the evil overlord ruining his world, ends up forming an unbreakable bond with him. It's great. I don't believe for a moment they fleshed it out or focused on it nearly as much as they could have, but they spent just enough time and a good enough job that it made me care a lot. Their big conflict and following team-up during the Another Zi-O arc was my absolute favourite part of the whole series, and I got emotional in pretty much every scene from then on that featured the two. And who's the other Rider in this show I really like? White Woz! Yeah, I loved just about everything about him from his debut to his very sloppily-written exit. When he showed up from an alternate future, it took the entire story for such a spin on it's head which carried my excitement greatly through many episodes. And I still really enjoyed the great and sometimes even hilarious contrast between the fact that he (ostensibly) wanted to bring a bright and peaceful future to the world, while also being a shamelessly and blatantly terrible person himself. I loved the Another Riders. Both as a concept, and all of their designs. Though I can't be the only one who thinks Another Decade should have come before Another Zi-O II, right? Or have them both share the position of final villain since both Sougo and Tsukasa are here? Eh, something to think about in a hypothetical re-write. As an anniversary series, it was weird as heck. Most of the really good tributes came in the second half (save for one bat-shaped exception) but special mention to the Agito one featuring not only Shouchi himself but also BELIEVE YOURSELF which blew both mine and a lot of people's minds in a good way. Over-Quartzer is my favourite theme song in all of Kamen Rider. It's really good! In fact, a lot of the soundtrack as a whole is good and I eagerly await it's release so that I may pirate it. So yeah, this was definitely a bizarre but honestly still greatly entertaining year for Rider. But honestly, I'm looking forward to a more 'restrained' kind of insanity with Zero-One. After all, Zi-O makes Build and Ex-Aid look like coherent and perfectly logical narratives. Also RIP Kamen Rider Aqua. If we don't ever see him again, we may have to assume he's dead for good. Not to be mean to him or anyone who likes him, but I find that almost comically cruel. Last edited by FreshToku; 08-25-2019 at 12:04 PM.. |

CathlyrebssIib ryuki reset? It's like out of context watching this episode will be epic cool aside from rumors of tie in woz diend betrayal instead otsuki along with 19 other Heisei appearing again some in and out suit. Decade was wasted potential. The end shot with all of them together with be nice if they play up in depth exploring and developing their relationship first. It's like when was the jackers friends with the heroes. Even geiz and zio rivalry and friendship was weak compares to ryuki version. It's like a big chunk of unexplored v cinema materials. This is like another build ending leading to v cinema and movie war . It's better than decade ending.
Also, ohma form /movie form is king. Grand zio was pretty weak and forgettable now beside the henshin tra formation and jingle. When was the last time it did well besides another deno. Maybe another zio , but only after endless beat down. Honestly, the finale could be worst. The series played up woz/ohma zio to be more of an obstacle and internal conflict, but wild card Swartz came in. A lot of random exposition without strong flashback or key scene context plus character development. The series as a whole is good for people wanting to see old riders and new to rider perhaps. A decent end regardless of bs endgame build up. Glad prove people wrong this leads to another cliffhanger like decade. Tsuki and ohma limited appearance PB toy baits. Still loved a lot of things about this series, pretty much all of which Fresh already went over; but...
... Eh. Decade was better. |

(Looks like I’m late to finally Use this lol. Ah well I’ve got zero one)
While it’s not perfect, I personally enjoyed this series start to finish. Do I wish they used their earlier cameos a bit better? Oh yeah definitely. Would’ve loved to see the OOO arc done in a way like Agito. But I can’t deny that this was a fun’ series. It’s has a lot of flaws granted, and the poor time shenanigans at the beginning and end definitely attribute to that. Having the worlds be separate is not something I really enjoy, since I feel like, while it’s technically necessary, it’s kind of just...not fun. That kinda of ties in with another flaw, the fact that we never see these cameos interact with each other outside their series. Granted the Decade bois did amazing but it’s a bit disappointing. As for good parts, I loved all 3 main kamen riders, and their personalizes are really fun. The power ups, the Another riders, and Oma Zi O are all just highlights of the season for me. All in all. I think the ending of a reset and then having Geiz be the world’s main rider (or whatever the V cinema is doing) isn’t a totally bad option. Again, I don’t like the full universe reset where all the kamen riders come from different worlds but for the Zi o cast, a peaceful reset where Sougo and friends can live their lives isn’t bad. I’m hyped for Zero One though, and here’s to hoping it’s as great as it looks! Maybe if we’re lucky they’ll actually keep the timeline coherent. I also admittedly hope we get some more v cinemas to tie Zi o up, or really, the heisei period up. Get some conclusions to like, OOOs, Double, etc. As personally...I think a lot of cameos need to return for another event so they can be handled better. Well having watched that sub.
Yeah there's totally enough vagueness on what's going on with the separate rider worlds to where I think we can spin our own interpretation. And I think it was left like that on purpose so that other directors/writers can do what they want. Who knows maybe W through Ex-Aid alongside the Showa Riders still exist in a singular world. Perhaps all the extra worlds are just AR Versions, we don't really know. Not to mention one world could be the World of Geiz Revive, seeing as White Woz is present in the trailer, and that's possibly where all the Future Riders ended up. That being said I can appreciate the reset purely because... it isn't an actual reset, it's a Remix. Purely because, your dragging people from The World of Tsukuyomi to Zi-O's world, alongside people from different timelines and setting them all in a singular timeline starting at 2018. That's a lot more than your usual reset. Not to mention there's an easy way for things to come back with Woz. Dude can yeet belts and probably still has everything that passed still on record. Overall a fantastic ending to Heisei Kamen Rider and Zi-O is probably one of my fave series. Not the best, it's pretty rough in a lot of area's, but my general enjoyment of it has been pretty high. That being said I'm excited to see what Zero-One will bring to the table. |

I see this mostly as The other Rider worlds are back to what they were before Zi-O screwed everything up.

Not the biggest fan of this return to status quo, and while it's left somewhat up in the air I do think this reset has put every Rider in it's own world for good.
Mind you they're gonna forget this for Zero-One X Zi-O and just have Zi-O appear somehow due to some time space BS also Dunno if the 21st is meant to imply Zero-One or something else but, there's 21 worlds now. |

Well, that was stupid but at least it's over now.
Good to see that Build's finale is still getting work. I assumed it was going to enjoy retirement, yet here it was again for an encore performance. I haven't posted any Zi-O reactions in awhile because I fell behind and it took a few weeks to muster up the enthusiasm to actually watch the show but I figure I'll lay down some final thoughts. Zi-O wasn't Ghost-teir bad, but it was not a good show. It had some really high peaks (Agito) and some lows (Kiva), but on the whole it was just really bland and mediocre. Most of the characters were underdeveloped and uninteresting, with a lot of abrupt objective changes and unexplored motivations (seriously, why did Woz betray the rebels to follow Zi-O? This was never explained). I enjoyed Woz because it was hard not to and Sougo grew on me, but the Time Jackers, Tsukoyomi, and especially Geiz never did anything to grow on me as characters. This was a show that I watched primarily to see the returning faces and that was rarely rewarding because most were effectively playing different characters. The show's real bright spot was the point where they stopped erasing past shows and started bringing in the modern versions of these characters (Blade, Agito, etc.). That's still not really to the show's own credit, though, as fanservice and plot are not the same thing. As far as the finale itself goes, it barely made coherent sense. Like I and several others have said, it was ripped largely from Build. The parts that were uniquely Zi-O didn't make a ton of sense, though. I know that Tsukuyomi, as a character, was only slightly deeper than a small puddle, but I doubt anyone would seriously think she'd betray her friends (apart from that time when she randomly decided that Sougo had to die for two episodes). Zi-O finally turns into Oma Zi-O by... just doing it? There was no explanation at all for that. Grand Zi-O got curbstomped (again), Geiz died, and then the new belt just manifested out of nowhere. I liked the bit where Chekhov's Watchmaker finally paid off, but the actual Oma transformation came out of nowhere. Oh well, at least all of the Heisei Riders are back on their own separate worlds again, even though W through Ex-Aid were explicitly shown to coexist on numerous occasions. Hooray for whatever. |
