With a great hero usually comes with a great sidekick... or something, I dunno.
Anyways, who's your favorite Secondary Rider and why? I'm curious to see what you guys have to say. If it's close feel free to give a Top 3 or Top 5. I know it's hard to pick just one. For the record, I do mean Secondary Riders and not Tertiary Riders or movie-exclusive Riders or what have you. So no Ryugen, no Nadeshiko, no Mage, ect. As for me? I'd have to go with Beast. I know the general consensus for Wizard ranged somewhere between meh and bleh but I really enjoyed it, especially the second half. A big reason for that was Kosuke. He's just so fun as a character and so likable while still having an emotional arc with Yuzuru, a typical person to help of the week character, that I got invested in. I probably like him so much because he kinda reminds me of a more mellowed out and mayonnaise obsessed Momotaros. Before Beast I really liked Birth after Date gave it up and Gotou inherited the Birth powers. I just really liked Gotou's whole arc to becoming Birth and how he had to work hard at getting it in the background while Eiji and Date were advancing the main plot. A simple arc, but one I could get behind. Number 3 would probably go to... I guess Baron. Though like Beast he was best suited for the second half of the season. Mostly because his character really sticks out in the first half of Gaim. But once the invasion of Zawame and Kouta getting Kiwami Arms happened that's when I really took a liking to his character. Not to mention around Ep 40-ish we end up getting Lord Baron, which kicks all kind of ass in both a visual way and from a story perspective

I think my favorite would probably have to be Meteor. I really liked how, for a good bit, he bordered on antagonist. I also felt like he had sole pretty dang good motivations, and the resolution to his ark was done really well.

This should be titled the "Akira Date Appreciation Thread" because every other answer is wrong.

My favorites are:
Akira Date. How can you not like him? He's the type of guy you would go to a bar with for drinks. He's just so laidback and cool. Hajime Aikawa. I like him for the same reasons I like Takumi. He's aware of his status as a ticking time bomb, but he still struggles with his destructive nature because he doesn't want to hurt the people close to him. Hiiro Kagami. He's one of those rare secondary Riders for me. He's an aloof secondary Rider like we've seen before, but unlike other shows I've seen, that detachment isn't necessarily treated as something that makes him evil or antagonistic. Because he's a doctor, he can't afford to get too attached to his patients, otherwise it can be a distraction, as we've seen with Emu countless times (who I also like). At the same time, though, he's still trying to meet Emu somewhere in the middle (well, he was until, you know, Cronus). Kaito Kumon. I just like him as a character. He's a deconstruction of a social darwinist. He believes that only the strong should survive, but at the same time, he hates the fact that it has to be this way. It's an interesting take on what could have been a fairly standard character archetype. Ren Akiyama. He was the secondary Rider of the first Japanese Rider series I've ever seen, so he has a soft spot in my heart. He wants to be the hero who saves the girl in the end, but struggles with the thought of actually killing someone else to do so. It's heartbreaking.

Mach.
The only one that matters, as he's my favorite Rider of all time. He put on a happy face, despite suffering in the background. Something that I am all too familiar with on a personal level. Plus, he had a terrible parent, something else we share in common. I could relate to him. Hence why I fell for the character. Plus he showed that it was okay to make mistakes, because the people that truly mattered, wouldn't care. Even if they weren't blood related.

Is it allowed to be Kusaka if it is in a love to hate way?

Gattack-He's like the only nice and righteous rider in his series. He started out as an everyday plain part timers, but slowly gain confidence and fight for what is right even if he has to challenge Tendou a few times.
Chalice-An monotone guy. He manage to become a "human" in the end. Birth from Os-I always see him as some funny guy in his 30s despite he's actually younger, but he's righteous and laid back at the same time. Beast-I feel he's like a real hero at the end of the series. Baron-A rival that doesn't play dirty. Society changed him. |

Kagami (Arata) because I liked him more than Tendou, and felt great when he finally got to be a Rider.
Date because of all the reasons already known. Kaito because he grew on me, and what honor he has makes him more likable than other secondary rider candidates in Gaim.

Makoto Hikawa/G3 and eventually G3-X: He was a human being in a rider's husk yet he was equal to his allies who have superpowers in every way.
Masato Kusaka/Kaixa: Not the ideal yet was a scene stealer of the show in my book. Arata Kagami/Gatack: Earned his way to be a rider and the payoff was beautiful when he finally became his own rider. Yuto Sakurai/Zeronos: One if the coolest manchilds to be a rider. His antics with Deneb were gold. Keisuke Nago/Ixa 2008: Was a douchebag at first but in his own way became a formidable ally to Wataru. Plus that Ixacise though. Ryu Terui/Accel: Hard-boiled detective with his own awesome plot that resembles V3 for me. Akira Date/Proto Birth: Knowing the actor's gig as R5 in Rescue Force I was curious and later surprised with his comedic performance in OOO. Plus a nice mentor character. Ryusei Sakuta/Meteor: I like his whole growth into being a true hero. Beyblade FTW.
