Ghostbusters.
I never saw what made it such an apparent masterpiece. I sat there, slumped in my seat, desperately waiting for it to get good, only to be disappointed the entire time. I rewatched it again come the 2016 remake controversy, only to once again be bored out of my mind.

As much as a hardcore Jim Carrey fan I am, believe it or not I never had any interest in seeing “Liar, Liar”

I do enjoy Ghostbusters. I thought it was a fun movie, but it's far from a masterpiece. I am not even sure why it's a cultural phenomenon. It has all the elements of a typical cult classic film. Yet somehow it exploded as a major mainstream film with a big impact on American pop culture. As a kid I only liked it for one reason and one reason only: Stay Puffed Marshmallow Man. I just thought that ending was hilarious. Aside from that this film is highly inappropriate for children. I am one of the few who finds Ghostbusters 2 more enjoyable as a whole film.
I still pick both films over the reboot. That reboot was awful. This clip is what made the original Ghostbusters a classic movie to me

I felt like Joker was overrated. Good, but not great.

Yeah it wasn't even really original either. Just take Taxi Driver, King of Comedy, and elements of The Dark Knight Returns, and The Killing Joke sprinkled in. And some obvious subversion and you have Joker. I thought it was a well made film, and an interesting reflection on society and the state of Hollywood comic book films. It just wasn't all that original nor that ground breaking other than the records it is breaking at the box office.
I felt Phoenix perfectly encapsulated the state of what a pre-Joker identified person would behave, but his transition was not seamless. I'd argue it didn't even happen. Once he became "Joker" he was just Fleck in a different clown costume. He has the potential to become the Joker we know, but by the end of the film he just wasn't. Still better than Jared Leto though. |

I cannot for the like of me understand all the love for The Lego Movie. Critically it's acclaimed as one of the greatest animated movies in recent history (at least of the decade), yet when I watched it I failed to see it as anything but super generic. It's the exact same story Hollywood pumps out every 2 months with little to set it apart; I might as well be watching the emoji movie.
