And since the PR movie Hasbro is cooking up seems to be related to nostalgia baiting with 90s MMPR, I highly doubt that they would just end their relationship with Toei, the people who own nearly thirty years worth of suits, designs, and footage. Toei will always be related to PR because PR is literally built upon Sentai. You can't turn on MMPR without seeing a lot of Zyuranger footage. |

Which seems, uh, an extremely specific mistake to make when talking about a partnership and franchise that doesn't use animation at all...?

If true, and Hasbro chooses to end their contract with Toei, they can easily create a new series on their own. The name "Power Rangers" is owned by Hasbro. They couldn't create new material of the old stuff but they could create new material and call it Power Rangers. If that makes sense.

Plus wouldn't it also impact the comics? Since technically the designs sans stuff like the Omega Rangers are based on Toei's property.
Essentially chances are if they do end their partnership Toei's not just gonna let them use any footage or design from any of their adapted works. Which would mean everything from MMPR to Dino Fury becomes off the table...Thinking of the potential specifics is weird.

Another side to the "Hasbro-breaks-with-Toei" theory is what that would mean for Transformers, as the original series used Toei's Animation Studio, in addition to Akom and another mysterious company (look it up)!
Say they separate, but would that nix everything related to Toei including decades-old animation, or would it remain solely based on Sentai and live-action!? In addition, the animation flub that was mentioned and then pulled is also curious. There have always been rumors of an animated Power Rangers, but little has been said over the legitimacy of such a project. I'm wondering if maybe the earlier "flub" wasn't really a flub, but rather a sensitive piece of the puzzle. Perhaps Hasbro IS planning an animated series and broached the subject with Toei, either to use their animation studio or to work out an international distribution deal where Toei can overdub such a cartoon, only for the deal to falter and lead to total separation between Hasbro and Toei at worst, or it's just a failure with the animated series deal that's been blown out of proportion! A cute little theory on my end, but in the long run, it would be a fatal and self-destructive blow to the franchise if Hasbro cuts all ties with Toei! Does Hasbro really want to be forever demonized as "The Entertainment Company Which Murdered Power Rangers"!? The Transformers Wiki has a page denoting times when that franchise was almost "Ruined Forever" in the eyes of the fandom. I would hate for Power Rangers to suffer a similar fate! |

Like. They'd be giving up Mighty Morphin'. You all, like-- you all see how crazy that is, right? That's the bread and butter of the brand, the entire thing that they can bank on for nostalgia and pop culture relevance money that far outmatches any money they have to give to Toei for their deal. And they'd give up that for, what, a new original animated series featuring vaguely similar designs? It's not even like they've been preparing for this -- in fact they've been heavily investing in exactly the opposite. The BOOM comics continue to go strong as a successful comic; the Lightning Collection has gone out of its way to introduce new team molds almost every wave; you've got returning actors in Beast Morphers and likely Dino Fury at this rate; general merchandising in smaller lines like Imaginext not just continues but has doubled down on legacy content; there's a wholeass live-action movie coming soon enough! Worst case scenario, absolutely worst case scenario; they're forging a new deal with Toei that allows them access to all the legacy stuff but doesn't allow them access to new shows. But frankly there's no indication of even that especially with what little we have to go on. Come back later this year and this'll all have been turned out to be a massive misinterpretation of something as simple and boring as not renewing the current deal because they're making a new deal that has a few legal terms and conditions changed.

Why not a original live-action season ?
