It looks like that the design for the upcoming Godzilla movie this July has been posted on the Internet. Low-res images began appearing on Twitter and Facebook. This version of Godzilla was executed by Mahiro Maeda (The Vision of Escaflowne) and then realized as a maquette by Takayuki Takeya (Kamen Rider Drive)

The new design looks exactly like what I imagined when I heard Hideaki Anno would work on this

Well they did said that Godzilla would look scary. I just hope that they don't try to rehash the 1954 film. August said that the movie will be another solo film. I'm kinda let down that we won't get any monster battles in the movie.

I continue to have mixed feelings about this design.
On one hand, they're clearly trying to portray a horrific mutated abomination of radiation. What with the burnt skin, lanky appendages, teeth etc. Makes sense for Godzilla to go that route. On the other hand, I feel they're trying too hard with the design, especially in regards to the teeth. |

I want to see it in action first before I can make judgement out of it. This version of Godzilla could be really cool and badass for all we know. I admit that I like Legendary's Godzilla design better since it feels like the perfect Godzilla design to me. This one can win me over too.

Is FNAF crossing over with Godzilla? Because good god, that's a lot of teeth.
I do not like the design, really. Perhaps it'll look better in motion or with better angles, though.

Definitely a much creepier design anyway. Gives off a radiation burned and scarred vibe.
I don't think it looks that good in improperly lit still shots, but it might look great in motion. |

I love everything except the eyes. They don't look like a lizard's eyes at all.

Not really feeling it. However, Godzilla is, according to the Heisei-era films, a mutated dinosaur. "Mutation" is not as clean and wonder-working as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles make it out to be. Okay, that's not true, they have their fair share of abominations too, but you know what I mean.
So if they portray this Godzilla as a mutant driven by pain and grieve I can get behind that. Need to see full body shoots though, the arm looks kinda weird. |
