Worst-case (and most likely) scenario, it'll take the premise of Zyuranger and combine it with all the awfulness of Kyoryuger. Because safey-safe is the rule at Toei, apparently.

I'd thought I'd gone overboard on thinking they were recycling Kyoryuger, and then I saw the scans that show them in Armed On modes. It's even the same arm!
It looks like the power-ups aren't hero-color-specific: they're coming from the widgets in image 3, which is why Black is using a blue-shield thing and Blue is using the teal something-or-other. Presumably, they're meant to be interchangeable. I'm fascinated by how clear the influences from previous Sentai are. It's actually easier to point out the original elements. The helmet's resemblance to medieval knights' visors stands out. The sword doesn't appear to be a gunblade, and it doesn't look like they have a default ranged sidearm, which feels kinda Shinkenger and contributes to the knight theme. (Although there's always the possibility of a trigger on those things. Toei and Bandai LOVE gunblades.) I have no idea what's in that belt buckle. Also, I wonder if I'm being premature on that no-gun thing: that may be what's going on in the attach-belt-buckle-to-sword picture. Now that I'm setting aside my disappointment about the dragon thing: I think I fundamentally like the suit designs. Anything that references the awesome Dekaranger suits is okay by me. I get that they're trying to ape Kyoryuger, but that doesn't actually bother me; I *loved* Kyoryuger. (Then again, part of what I loved about Kyoryuger was down to the casting. I might have hated Daigo if he hadn't been played by an actor with charisma and presence to spare.) The muted colors and the choice to make silver a prominent design element is super-cool. I may have loved the candy-color saturation of Kyoryuger, but those yellow weapons looked like toys-in-a-bad-way. These swords still look like toys - Sentai weapons almost always do - but they're not so ridiculous. Nothing we've seen speaks to anything about series quality. That will always come down to the producers and writers. Writing is part of why I suspect LvsP has been relatively-poorly-received by communities like this one: even a terrific premise means little if you can go 40 episodes with almost no plot development. It had a fundamental conceptual flaw. If you do a show about phantom thieves who never commit crimes being chased by police despite being clearly on the same side... Yeah. That's kinda hard to overcome. What made Kyoryuger work (for those of us who liked it) was that it managed to have a sense of continual, forward plot motion. I doesn't actually matter how safe the show's theme and designs seem if the show produces an engaging story. We probably won't have a sense of this until the show has been running for a month or two. Until then, all we can do is hope. |

On the other hand, though, Kyuranger (a show I do like) was constantly moving from one plot arc to the next with nary a breather, such that everything felt like a blur and nothing really had staying power. The best I would hope for is something like ToQger in terms of plot with at least some of the creativity of Kyuranger and LuPat that Toei might grudgingly allow. My fantasy is "Zyuranger done right" (which in some ways Gingaman was, but that had a far different premise). Are the Ryusougers revived ancient knights, or contemporary people given ancient power? |

I did too. It was flawed, but I had a lot of fun with it. Probably the last Sentai season that I enjoyed.

Oh... oh, my. These helmets are gorgeous. That mech is the coolest looking one we’ve had in years. And the RyuuSoul armor (from another post) makes the suits look a lot less boring.
My initial disappointment is diminishing rapidly. These guys look badass AF. |

It really captured what I feel Sentai is about, whacky hijinx yet the characters constantly grow. Hell, everyone gives Daigo shit for getting lots of screentime but Daigo's screentime doesn't diminish the focus for the others, which I was especially surprised by
