And that, children, is why you should just leave proper nouns alone in translation whenever possible, especially in a franchise that's prone to using the language you're trying to translate to for exotic appeal.
...What? Am I supposed to come up with some convoluted method of justifying the actions of someone I happen to support even when they're wrong? I'm not a politician. |

Outside of subbing group issues... xD I thought that this episode was very interesting indeed. Having the orange ranger be the loner out of the group with a very mysterious vendetta against strong opponents is quite a twist indeed! I hope that they take a little while before he becomes a part of the team.

This episode pretty much lines up with my thoughts on the previous ones: some good ideas, lackluster execution, fuck Lucky (in stereo). I know we're only three episodes in, but this show is already shaping up to be one where everything focuses on the Red Ranger. It's bad enough when there;s a small cast, but we have so many characters this year that it seems a waste to focus extensively on any single one of them, even if it weren't the most annoying one.

There is plenty of reasons we hate TVN...
Even the Founders of TV-Nihon hate TV-Nihon, they all left. One they make lots of mistakes they don't even notice. Two, they shouldnt keep terms like Nee-san untranslated. You want a translation or you watch it raw. Three, Its obvious how bad they are when they translate a show Jyuohger when everyone else in the world call it the correct name "Zyohger" Four, sadly, although it might have changed now, the staff and their fanatic members are very good at insulting people because they are not primary english speakers or their genetic situation, and if you dare tell the staff about a mistake they have made they will tell you to go *beep* yourself... My older sister knows them since they started... they used to be good... But yeah, if you want to go watch badly translated Jyuohger, suit yourself... I rather watch quality subtitling like Over-time does... And I stop my ranting now... episode 3. was very good Quote:
I don't like TV-N because they're literally the prime example of terrible fansubbers. Like they'll leave entire phrases untranslated, even when it's EASY to just use an English word (like for Magiranger they use "o-baka-chan-tachi" instead of just "idiots") or use the English version to keep a joke (in Den-O they leave his final attack as Densha Giri, but the joke is that it's a lame name because it literally means "Train Slash").
One of the worst though is when they pretty much translated an important line in Gaim (spoilers if you haven't watched it) that this blogpost can explain better than I can. Like I get it, people can like what fansub group they want, but I just think they're bad. I mean, I understand that Over-Time gets a little crazy with translating things (like I'm not a big fan of them translating Karo and Daikaan as Menasters and Malistates, even IF they're pretty good puns), but Over-Time has a lot more accuracy. Quote:
On the subject of Menasters and such, it's also weird, because they've changed their translations specifically to match romanizations in the past, like how in Go-Busters they changed sub-space to hyper-space because that's the translation the show itself was using. Of course, that was literally a change from episode 1 to 2, but still.
Ah, thanks for the explanation. I know their subs are terrible because of honorifics, but I'm a guilty pleasure when it comes to flashy subs. Though back then when Kamen Rider W aired, I prefered Order of Zeronos's flashy subs. |

Maybe at this point I have to accept that Sentai is basically Red and his sidekicks. If that's the case then what's the point of having 9 Rangers then. |

Oh look, an episode that wasn't complete shit.
Shame it couldn't muster anything past mediocre. 100% honest: This episode's tolerable quality just puts into perspective how bad the last 2 really were. And that's not a good thing... Anyway, for an episode that focused on Champ, why did he spend the entire climax laying down? Here: Champ gets beaten by Stinger, Lucky comes in and saves him last moment. Lucky gives inspirational speech to Champ. Lucky and Champ both work together. Boom. Episode keeps the arguable main character relevant, as well as shows off Red. Anyway, this episode sucked. Stinger is basically a shonen anime rival except in live action. I'm awaiting his sappy bullshit backstory to "justify" him being an asshole. Lucky is still very, very annoying. I hate seeing the team basically job to one villain but have Lucky be able to stand toe to toe with him. Commander is cute, but I hope he actually becomes interesting, because his joke of not having his head in the situation will lose it's charm quickly.

Eeeh, better than the first, worse than the second IMO, but that's more due to the characters involved being less interesting/entertaining than anything else...

Remind me Why we need 9 ranger if one of Kyutamas power is freeking copy of itself (damn two lucky red is freaking) nightmare, So far Orange ranger is the only ranger that really have a skill...
I dunno about the complain of kyorenger but when i watch it i don't feel any problem like this series.. Maybe Daigo is not like Takaharu or Lucky in my book |

It was okay, but that's about it. I kinda hoped the commander would’ve been a bit more serious, but that's obviously not the case. I think he’s fun but I wish they would’ve handled him more like Doggie Kruger, a professional leader who's not above making a good joke every now and then.
And while we're talking characters - they’re really underwhelming so far. I know we only watched three episode so far and even good seasons take longer to establish what a character is all about but I'm afraid most of the Kyurangers will be defined only through their comedic traits. I'm trying to like Hammy, I really do, but once a character says something remotely strange I can already see the camera panning over and that actress will just have to muster her terrible fake laugh again. It's not working for me. Let’s not waste time talking about Lucky, he's space trash, so what do we have left? Champ got a little focus this episode and it was okay but I kinda wanted a bit more. The blue wolf dude already got his focus so he’s worthless now, same goes for Balance and Naga really. I hate how annoying Naga is now, they’re taking his lack of emotions too far only to get stupid comedy out of it. Balance is still Balance so that’s okay I guess, and I have nothing worthwhile to say about the rest of the characters. Except Raptor. I kinda like her. I hate that she’s a costume, I would’ve preferred an actresss with robot makeup, but she’s likable at least. She works great with the commander which is a little plus, and she was rather funny in this episode and in the preview. The Sailor Moon homage was neat. Also, Stinger is cool; simply because he’s an obstacle instead of yet another Kyuranger they can just recruit on the spot. I’m interested to see where this goes. Lastly, here’s something this show does right in my option: KyurenOh and the big monster battles. The robot of this season is better than ZyuohKing, he looks nicer, I love the cockpits and the way they change limbs instantly, that’s fun. And then the big fights: This show has the advantage space shows usually have, meaning that aliens who can naturally grow or are already big when they appear are much more of a natural obstacle which warrants a big robot to fight them instead of the same old "Make my monster grow"-shit. Like, I hated the Naria scenes in Zyuohger. Every time with this shit. No one wants to shoot the damn coin out of her hand and be done with it? Okay, cool… So yeah, action is okay, robot monster fights are the best so far IMO, the rest is pretty bad. It has potential for sure; let’s hope this show can make it work soon. |
